๐ Grand Union Canal – Leighton Buzzard
Phil and Callum Anderson began their morning on the town stretch but found bites hard to come by. After relocating to the Grove Church stretch, they found success fishing the middle section with maggots and size 20 hooks.
Skimmers and perch dominated

Despite promising conditions, the canal fished hard due to warm weather and heavy boat traffic. The first boat through — the Jules Fuels pair — stirred up silt and didn’t help matters!

๐ฅ 2nd: Bart Bonito (7lb 2oz) – Lost three skimmers early, but adjusted and finished strong

⚠️ South Lagoon – Blue-Green Algae Alert
Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) has been identified. These blooms pose risks to both fish and humans.
๐ค Health Risks Include:
Skin rashes, eye irritation
Gastroenteritis, liver damage
Rare neurological effects
๐ฃ Anglers – Please Take Precautions:
Don’t put wet lines or tackle in your mouth
Wash hands before eating and after fishing
Cover cuts/grazes with waterproof plasters
Algae can also affect dissolved oxygen levels — please watch for fish in distress.
Check, Clean, Dry – Protect Our Waters

Wet and dirty fishing equipment, footwear, and clothing can carry diseases like KHV, along with invasive plants and animals that kill fish and shut down fisheries.
They are easily spread on damp clothing, nets, and tackle — and once they take hold, they can:
• Block
waterways and banks.
• Harm fish stocks, and close fisheries.
• Interfere with angling.
• Become extremely difficult and costly to remove.
That’s why prevention is key.

Protect the environment and the fishing you love — always check, clean, and thoroughly dry your kit after every session - this is the most effective way of preventing the spread.
