Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 27th May 2018

With the new season about to start on 1st June all of our gated waters will be having their locks changed by the end of 31st May.


Members should make sure that their new membership book includes their photo ID as otherwise the book is invalid.

COACHING

Our coaching team will be following this event with coaching sessions for members between 6.30pm & 8.30pm also at the Three Locks starting on 7th June then every fortnight . Tackle and bait will be provided free of charge but we would like to receive some notice of those wanting to attend as the bait has to be purchased and tackle prepared, thanks.

Another good week for catch reports although we know that many go unreported so thanks to all those that take the time to send in their photos.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
John Dennis did two separate sessions landing carp of 20lb 11oz, 19lb & 14lb 5oz on Mad Baits the Nutz+ and then returned for carp of 18lb 5oz, 17lb 8oz and 17lb 5oz on Mad Baits Wicked Whites. 


Jack Rose landed a 14lb 5oz common on a Mad Baits Pear Drop pop up. 

Keiran Cove did two short late afternoon sessions picking up a low double and an 18lb 9oz mirror. 



Ian Dilley fished zigs soaked in Richworth Tutti for a 15lb 12oz common which actually took both of Ians zig baits on his 2 rods at the same time! 

Luke Marvin tempted 5 carp on Mad Baits and then returned with his son Callum for another 8 carp including 2x 20lb+ mirrors for Luke and a personal best 24lb 4oz common for young Callum.







 Tommy Pattison also got amongst the fish with five carp to 22lb.



GRAND UNION CANAL
Carl Clark had a 14lb 11oz mirror.


The canal bridge on the B488 has been severely damaged between Horton & Ivinghoe and is likely to remain closed for some considerable time. There is no access from the Ivinghoe end but parking is now easy on the Leighton Buzzard side with zero traffic being able to get through.

KEMPSTON LAKE
Mason Lougher landed a 24lb common


NORTH HOUSE LAKE
Mark Brookman banked the Lobe Tailed Common. 

Carlo Borromeo had 8 carp to 28lb 4oz along with a tench. Carlo's catch included two double takes with all the fish coming to Mad Baits.




Filip Dunaj used Mad Baits Addiction to catch a 24lb 4oz common.



SOUTH LAGOON
Wojciech caught a 6lb pike

 with his friend Pawel Ceks having 80lb of bream


MATCH RESULT
The result of the Tavern Otters Eastern Enfield A.S. match on the GUC at Ivinghoe, on Sunday 20th June 2018 was:
1. A. MILLS 28. 3.0
2. D. BEECH 21.13.0
3. D. IONTTON 9.10.0
The winning weight consisted of a mixture of Bream and skimmers, plus one small Carp. They were all caught on a pellet with a method feeder. The winning weight and the other better weights came from roughly the middle of the venue, before where the boats are on the far bank.
15 members fished the match, the total weight was 107.13.0.

NORTH HOUSE LAKE
Robert Barry Hall caught the Shadow Common at 32lb 10oz,

Nicholas Goodman a 23lb 13oz common on a Mad Baits Esta pop up over a spread of particles with Nutz+ & Wicked Whites, 

Elliot Collins two commons weighing in at 20lb and 26lb 4oz using Nash Baits.

James Ashley a 22lb common, 

Brad Pearson 12lb 8oz common on Mad Baits Wicked Whites.

 Danny Stanley 3 carp to 22lb and 2 tench caught on Sticky Baits Signature Squid pop ups.


GRAND UNION CANAL
Nicholas Wright a specimen 3lb 2oz perch Grand Union Canal on a lure.


Michael Wilkins had been catching bream on the Grand Union Canal when a 27lb 6oz mirror gate crashed his session. Recognised as one of the many fish moved from the no fishing power line section at Horton during the winter. 

Dennis Hunt fished on the old Mud Flats section of the Grand Union Canal which is now deeper following last years dredging. Dennis was trying our a new pole and started with a fish a chuck at 5 metres with Roach, Gudgeon, Perch and big hybrids on Pinkies and then went over for some big Roach and Bream on corn. Proves the dredging has not put the fish off with 30lb+ pleasure bags of bream & silvers now common place throughout the 12 miles of canal we control.

 COACHING

Our two level 2 coaches Dennis Hunt and Mark Brooks again gave up their own time to attend an excellent training session and conference of Canal Angling Coaches held at Hatton Locks on Saturday. The meeting was opened by Richard Parry, Chief Executive of CRT and was organised by Fisheries manager John Ellis. There was a considerable amount of very useful to information shared between the delegates and an impromptu session with Canal ace Simon Mottram afterwards.

WOODLANDS LAKE
On their first visit to Woodlands Lake Dexter and his dad caught well with a hard fighting mirror carp being one of the best fish for Dexter which fell to waggler fished bread flake fished up in the water in the middle of the lake.


BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
Carl Clark 15 carp to 21lb plus the pike known as yellow spot at 20lb 7oz from Beckerings Reservoir all fish falling to Hydrabaits pop ups. Just a few of the photos of the carp showing fish between 12lb & 18lb 7oz. Special thanks to Luke Marvin for helping Carl unhook and return the pike safely as in Carls words he was 'lost with what to do with it' having never really had a pike before. Carl did exactly the right thing and sought help from Luke who was fishing nearby and is experienced in handling pike. Well played guys!



Keiran Cove a 19-05 common & 18-15 mirror along with two low doubles and two tench.

Luke Marvin caught three carp during a mid week evening session on Mad Baits.


KEMPSTON LAKE
Simon Jeffries a 19lb common on a Mainline Cell Pink pop up.


SOUTH LAGOON
During two separate sessions Pawel Ceks landed a specimen 12lb zander and then amassed a haul of 27 bream for 132lb


NORTH HOUSE LAKE
Paul Marriott landed Pecs at 28lb 9oz the best of a 5 fish session.

Carlo Borromeo used zigs to tempt mirrors of 27lb 12oz and 18lb plus a 21lb 8oz common.

Filip Dinaj dropped into a quiet corner of the lake and used a Mad Baits Esta Blend pop up over a handful of Addiction to bag a 23lb 10oz mirror.

Nicholas Goodman slipped the net under an 18lb 7oz common which fell to Mad Baits pandemic with Wicked Whites Spray fished over Wicked Whites & Nutz+


GRAND UNION CANAL
Lee Mooring fished into the night and managed a 17lb mirror



WORK PARTY
Our next work party on Sunday 20th May has been moved to the river at Biddenham. All volunteers are most welcome and we start at 9am with refreshments being provided.
