Some youngsters were invited to the Saturday sessions with our coach Mark Brooks as they showed promise.

Thanks to the club coaches Mark Brooks, Bob Burdiak and Les Reed. Les is the owner of The Tackle Shed and he also kindly provided the bait for the event.

Wednesday Match Group Report - 25th August 2021
With regular Wednesday match correspondent Dennis Hunt on holiday, Richard Gibbs sent in this weeks match report and pictures.

A total of 7 anglers turned out for the Old Boys Wednesday Knock Up on the R.Ouse at Eaton Ford.  Numbers were slightly down due to holidays.  Although overcast with no rain, the weather couldn't make up its mind as it was mild to start off with, then a cold wind requiring jackets and hoodies, then mild again!  Seems the fish were also affected as although the river looked spot on with a tinge of colour and a steady flow, the fish weren't interested in biting.  Steve Lathwell took top spot float fishing with hemp and tares on the hook with some quality Roach in his mostly Roach net.  Richard Gibbs took second place finding a mixed bag of Bream, Roach, Dace, Chub and Perch on the feeder with worm or dead maggot hookbait.  Thanks to Dudley Frankland and Roger Baker for assisting with the weigh in.

Next weeks match will be back on the Canal at Braggenham side, Stoke Hammond.  Draw at 9am, fish 10.30am to 3.30pm. Non Members welcome as this is also a day ticket venue.

1. Steve Lathwell   4.12.0
2  Richard Gibbs    3.4.0
3. Steve Osmond    2.4.0
4. Ray Burton         2.2.8
5. Dudley (I cant fish rivers) Frankland 1.14.0

Here is this weeks news and catch reports from Luton Angling Club. Please send in your catch reports via our website and social media pages.

Beckerings Reservoir
Craig Mahoney fished Beckerings last Wednesday and had a lovely 16lb 2oz Mirror Carp.

Neil Cox caught the original catfish from Beckerings at 49lb 15oz. He last had it 2 years ago at 48lb,it decided it liked a snowman presentation of madbaits nuts, not the intended species especially on 10ft rods and 15lb line but 30mins later it went into the net.

North House Lake
Matthew Scott had a lovely 23lb Mirror and 19lb Common from North House this week. The Mirror is stockie number 8 which was 8lb 2oz in 2017.

Biddenham River Ouse
It has come to our attention that fires have been lit at Biddenham. Members are reminded that fires are not permitted at any Luton AC venue and disciplinary action (most likely a ban) will be taken against anyone caught lighting fires.
Coaching and Let's Fish
We have had this email in from someone letting us know the progress of two new junior members that got into fishing through the Let's Fish events.
"Alfie (11)and charlie(13) started fishing on a Saturday learning with your team who have been coaching the two boys and they are very enthusiastic new members.
Only 2 weeks in and today they have been out alone for the second time with rigs they learnt to make themselves on 4m whips loaned to them to get them started.
On a recent outing to three locks on the canal Charlie caught 31 fish and Alfie 29 during a 3 and a half hour session
The catch of the day was Alfie’s first bite in the water and his biggest catch by far which he was overly excited by.
I can’t say enough good things about your coaches they have certainly inspired two new young anglers that are looking forward to representing the club in September at the festival in Shropshire.
We also met the bailiff on the bank today who was a pleasure to chat with and gave the boys lots of encouragement"

We are also extremely pleased that Luton Angling Club now have four Juniors in the 11 to 15 age group entered into The National Celebration of Young People and Fishing 2021 This is held every year on the third weekend of September and the event is the UK’s largest national celebration of young peoples' fishing. The junior event will be held on the Shropshire Union Canal at Soudley near Market Drayton on Sunday 19th September. More information can be found on the canal and river trust website.

Match Report Cooks Wharf 18-8-21
Ten anglers fished today and met for the draw on a warm August morning with heavy overcast and drizzle. The clouds were gathering and looking very ominous as we set off along the towpath with several of us expecting a heavy downpour, which never materialised. The overcast conditions continued through the morning and lifted in the early afternoon with bright sunshine breaking through the clouds on several occasions.

As was to be expected on a Wednesday in the August holiday season boat traffic was pretty heavy, with all except one giving no bother. The exception however was the boat skippered by a newbie who hadn’t got a clue and didn’t understand the rules who could not steer, and when trying to put in to operate the swing bridge (which he thought was automatic like the one at Winkwell) made a complete mess of it and nearly towed Chris Howard into the canal complete with tackle, resulting in a colourful exchange of words. The domestic with his other half was still going on below the next lock! Even Chris managed to see the funny side later and the rest of us quite enjoyed the incident, it brightened the day, and the day that Chris nearly got towed in will no doubt be laughed about for weeks.

Tim Watts was on a winning streak for the second time this week, and in a good field despite having to re-establish his line several times managed to net 83 fish, mainly Roach from the track on Pinkies to weigh in 11lb 12oz. Dudley Frankland had some nice chunky roach on Tares to weigh 7lb 2oz for second and Dennis Hunt fished pinkies over groundbait to weigh a bag of Perch, Skimmers and Roach for 3rd and 5lb 14oz.

All who attended had a great day out and enjoyed the banter and the company.

Cj Fisher had two Carp from Beckerings over the weekend a Common and a Mirror. The mirror was 20lb 8oz.

Match Report - Sensas Oakwood Summer League
The Penultimate round of the Sensas Oakwood Summer League was fished at Ivinghoe and Cooks Wharf last Sunday on a muggy overcast day after heavy rain.
The match was a bit patchy due to the influx of heavy rain which had made the Canal clearer than normal, but several good weights of Canal Roach were recorded.
Special mention this week should be made of Luton member Chris Howard fishing for Barts in section A, who won this section with 8lb 8oz and 3rd Overall
Overall Results
1st Ian Wing Barts 11lb 4oz
2nd Matt Herbert Oakwood Red 10lb
3rd Chris Howard Barts 8lb 8oz

Wednesday Match Report 11th August 2021.
Seven Luton members met at South Lagoon Wyboston for our Wednesday match, somewhat less than usual because of holidays and other commitments. It was a warm overcast morning with a slight autumnal feel, the temperature rose, and we had a couple of showers but overall, it was a very pleasant day, with birds singing in the trees and a Kingfisher fishing in the Lagoon with us.
Steve Lathwell fished the feeder taking one big bream and a skimmer, with other bits to win the day on worm fitted with Maggot. Others persisted with a pole or rod and line using a waggler, and some good Roach were taken on Hemp and Tare with the fish moving up in the water, although bites were sometimes hard to hit on the drop. All the anglers thoroughly enjoyed the day out.

Belle Cording sent in some feedback on our latest let's fish event.."I would just like to say a big thank you to the coaches. We loved our first free let's fish so much we booked and attended again at the event held at canal fields in Berkhamsted. We had the lovely Dennis as our coach again and had a brilliant afternoon learning to Pole fish. Thank you so much for this fantastic opportunity"

North House Work Party
It was a disappointing turnout to the work party at North House Lake on Sunday morning with only four volunteers attending but David Murdoch, Fergal O Kane, Dennis Vivian and Neville Hunt worked hard to remove the remainder of the old otter fencing from the far end of the lake and into a skip ready for disposal.
RIP - David Farmer 1949 - 2021
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have to report that Membership Secretary David Farmer passed away on Thursday morning. He had been unwell for some time. He served on the committee for many years initially as Fisheries Manager and more recently as Membership Secretary. He devoted a huge amount of his time to running the club and spearheaded many of the work parties and helped build our devoted volunteer work party team. The club will not be the same without him. We'll all miss his banter, bacon and egg rolls and the endless cups of tea he provided us with at the work parties... He will be missed by many - RIP Dave and Tight Lines!
His funeral will be on the 2nd September at 2pm at the Vale Crematorium, The Vale, Butterfield Green Rd, Luton LU2 8DD

Thats all for this week, Keep your catch reports coming in.

Wednesday Match Report 4th August 2021.

Nine Luton members met yesterday at Biddenham for our Wednesday match. It was a warm morning with a slight autumnal feel, but the temperature rose, and it became a very pleasant day. The river had good colour and flow and looked extremely inviting.
The anglers fishing used a variety of methods, Feeder, Long Whip, Pole, traditional rod and line and Bolo.

Richard Gibbs started slowly in peg 11 on a long whip and then switched to the Pole. After the switch he hooked one of the resident Biddenham Pike and at one time had over 30 Ft of No 7 Elastic out before being bitten off. Chris Howard fished peg 14 using an 18ft Bolo rod and a centrepin to take his bag of roach on Tare to beat Rich Gibbs by 4oz.

Dennis Hunt fished a pole in peg 12 with a 1 Gram float with an Olivette down, feeding hemp and fishing red maggot to win this week. Dennis also hooked a pike 5 Mins from the end of the match which eventually broke his hooklink, while Kevin Chadfield lost a large fish on worm which broke a 5lb hooklink on a feeder during the match.

The fishing while starting slowly picked up during the afternoon and the roach were generally getting bigger the longer the anglers fished.

All the anglers thoroughly enjoyed the day and would like to thank the Bailiff team for such a splendidly kept venue.
