Luton Angling Club Weekly News 19th March 2017

Apologies for no report last week as illness and then a faulty pc set us back.

David Richards chose to fish the Wyboston Ouse just before the river season closed and caught a 6lb 4oz chub.

Simon Heath continued his run of zander from the South Lagoon with two fish to 8lb 10oz Lots of silver fish are being caught from the South Lagoon so perfect for the pleasure angler.

On the adjacent North House Lake the carp are starting to wake up from the winter with Bob McDonald managing commons of 25lb & 19lb 8oz.

Beckerings Reservoir is fishing well judging by the many photos on social media with plenty of doubles and some 20lb+ fish gracing the bank with even talk of a 31lb 4oz fish being caught although none of the catfish that go to over 50lb have made an appearance this year yet.

Once prices for next seasons membership are set at our AGM on 23rd March Luton AC will be selling new memberships on a 14 months for the price of 12 months basis which will allow fishing from 1st April 2017 until 31st May 2018.

Keep an eye on our web site & Facebook pages as this deal will only be available direct from the club during April & May. A lot of work was done over this weekend by four volunteers to the track and entrance to our Biddenham river section when we had around 50 large bags of gravel donated by Wojciech Dunaj from Luton. Thanks to Wojciech for his kind donation which will benefit our members visiting Biddenham when the river reopens for fishing on 16th June.

Our next work party will be held at Beckerings Reservoir on 2nd April starting at 9am so if any member can lend a hand then please get in touch.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report - 5th March 2017

 Weekly News Report - 5th March 2017

We'll start this week with with the South Lagoon where regular Simon Heath had a Zander of 9lb 4oz  and another slightly smaller at 8lb 6oz. Craig Gibson had three Bream to 5lb 4oz.

Also at Wyboston on the Ouse Tony Sharp had a nice chub of 6lb 2oz which he caught on luncheon meat see picture below.

On the canal, visiting angler Paul Nash caught a 2lb Perch on Section 8 at Grove

The final round of the predator match series was held on Sunday 5th March but with the Ouse at Biddenham pushing through near the top of its bank and rising throughout the match confidence wasn't high that anyone would catch. Heavy rain and wind dampened the spirits further with the river flooding into the far side field. Club Secretary John Morris saved the day with a pike caught close in on a roach deadbait and seemed pleased with his trophy although his unhooking mat fell victim to the wind and floods and was last seen heading downstream towards Bromham!. Luckily a patch of deep soft moss in his peg made a natural alternative.

The overall winner of the series is Dave Brosnan.

North House Lake was closed on Saturday for a work party and lots of the trees were trimmed allowing better access and casting from many of the pegs lots of rotten branches were also removed to prevent them coming down and causing snags.

Terry the bailiff built up some of the slippery surfaces on the popular pegs using ballast. Our thanks to the volunteer members that attended  - John Morris, David Farmer, Terry Willison, Barry Stevenson, Neville and Kevin Hunt, Damon Smith and Mark Gaddison.

Our next work party is at Beckerings Reservoir on 26th March 2017 and we would really like to see some more of our members at our work parties so please come along if you are free. Tea and Coffee is provided and the barbecue is fired up on many of our work parties too!

The Club's Annual General Meeting will be held at Stopsley Working Mens Club, Putteridge Road, Luton, LU2 8HG on Thursday 23rd March. Members should make every effort to attend. Please make sure you bring your membership book with you. Parking and a Bar is available at the venue.
