Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 31st March 2019

Plenty going on around the venues this week

NORTH HOUSE LAKE
Mark Brookman continued his good form by catching the mirror carp known as Terrys Mirror at 31lb along with The Wanderer at 29lb 8oz

KEMPSTON LAKE
Paul & Braidan Tidmarsh enjoyed a 9 fish catch up to 21lb

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
New Member Mark Austin caught a pretty 17lb mirror off the top during a 2hr after work session.

During the week a further catfish of 31lb was stocked into the reservoir (photographed in a 600 gallon holding tank)courtesy of a fish rescue by the EA after the catfish was caught from the Aylesbury Arm on the Grand Union Canal by C&RT contractors. We hold a license at the reservoir for catfish which cannot be returned to the canal so would have otherwise have had to be destroyed. Our thanks go to the EA, C&RT & MEM for arranging this.

During the EA's visit to the reservoir they checked the licences of the 6 anglers fishing and all were in order.

GRAND UNION CANAL
Plenty of good carp being caught from the canal with numbers coming off the top during the warmer days. The roach and bream have been slow to respond with only the Grove Church to Grove Pub section consistently producing good weights up to 30lb.

WORK PARTY BIDDENHAM
Two work parties have now been completed at our Ouse Biddenham fishery which is wholly owned by the club. Many of the rotten platforms have now been replaced with only a couple earmarked for future work. Many thanks to the 20+ volunteers that attended over the 2 work parties which saves the club employing outside contractors at considerable expense.

AGM
The club AGM took place this week which included awards being handed out to the best of season fish captures.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 24th March 2019

With a better week of weather the catch reports have picked up and we have received some fantastic photos this week.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
The reservoir is really fishing well with pleasure anglers catching roach to 1lb 12oz, bream over 7lb along with some of the ide and chub which were stocked last year. Norman Brinn fishing a day session hooked into a hard fighting fish which battled so hard that he thought he was attached to one of the venues large catfish but was pleased when he slipped the net under the Half Lin which was weighed in at 32lb 2oz.

Also on the reservoir was Kieran Cove whose overnight session produced commons of 17lb 10oz and 17lb 8oz along with a superb linear mirror of 23lb 1oz.

NORTH HOUSE LAKE
Mark Brookman managed a large mirror and common

with Gavin Jones on his first session at North House banked a nice 17lb mirror.

GREAT OUSE WYBOSTON
Fishing at the end of the river season Marek had an 8lb pike.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 17th March 2019

 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Our Annual General Meeting will be held at Stopsley Working Mens Club, Putteridge Road, Luton, LU2 8HG on Thursday 28th March 2019 at 8pm There is a bar available and free parking on site. Don't forget to bring your membership book otherwise you won't be able to vote. Please try and attend if you are a club member

WORK PARTY
Our latest work party was on our Biddenham Ouse section where the volunteers set about replacing some of the platforms which were showing signs of rot. Fortunately some years ago we purchased a huge pile of engine/gearbox pallets and whilst they require two people to lift them they have proved invaluable and are fairly easy to unbolt and replace. Many thanks to all those who attended as without your efforts outside contractors would need to be employed at considerable expense to the club.
The next work party scheduled for Saturday 30th March at Eaton Ford has been switched to Biddenham to continue with the replacement platforms.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
The only report this week from a wet and wild week of weather was from regular contributor Jack Rose who landed a 29lb 4oz mirror.Weighed & witnessed with two sets of scales, lowest weight taken as one set had it at 30lb
