Beckerings Reservoir
Proper bites seemed hard to come by on Saturday at Beckerings reservoir for Amer Jawad. He did manage two pulls which resulted in two big slabs!

Craig Mahoney had a 24lb Common Carp during the early hours of Tuesday during an overnight session.

Jamie Ping Fished Beckerings Sunday afternoon for a few hours and had a dozen bream up to 8lb, this fantastic roach at 2lb 10oz roach. He lost another at the net around the same size, plus a few other bits and pieces
Biddenham River Ouse
Tim Marler caught the one eyed Pike at 20lb 9oz this fish is easily identifiable with its one eye it was out back in late November at 20lb 3oz. Tim also had a smaller pike of around 7lb.
Wednesday Match Group Report
Match Report, Tuesday 22nd February 2022
Inter Club Mill Cotton Wellingborough
The Wednesday group fished on Tuesday this week in an inter club fixture against our friends in Wellingborough.

We had intended to fish the Nene at Ringstead, but due to recent heavy rain causing flooding we had to transfer onto the Wellingborough Snake Lake, Mill Cotton, a fabulous fishery. We decided to fish ‘Silvers and Crucians only meaning bigger carp didn’t count.

The day was one of four seasons in one day, starting with high blustery winds, later morphing into rain squalls and ending in nearly flat calm and sunshine. Due to members having Covid and isolating, others being on holiday etc we were only able to field a team of six which was extremely disappointing, as others had really wanted to attend.

Initially the high winds made fishing difficult holding tackle at times being extremely challenging.
Dudley Frankland decided to fish down the track, the anglers to his right were fishing over having said the track hasn’t been that good. Dudley fed chopped up dead reds which he cupped in, his hookbait varied consisting of dead reds, live red & white maggots & pinkies. He put in a great performance and caught skimmers, 2 bream, 1 nice crucian carp nice roach plus bits to weigh 9lb 10oz.

Bart Bonito started slowly and struggled for the first half of the match, then he changed tactics to fish tight to the far bank and stepped up the feed. After doing this he never looked back, eventually taking 64 fish to weigh 6lb 10oz for 3rd overall

Steve Lathwell Fished down the track all day caught small roach, good Rudd, small chub and a crucian all on pinkie, His bites picked up when he fed heavier, and he eventually finished with 3lb 10oz.

The rest of the team struggled and failed to contribute any significant weight to the result.
Despite coming overall first and 3rd and weighing 21lb 15oz overall we were well beaten by our hosts who’s top six anglers weighed 32lb 4oz overall.

Thanks again to our hosts for making us feel so welcome.

Luton results
1st Dudley Frankland 9lb 1oz
2nd Bart Bonito 6lb 10oz
3rd Steve Lathwell 3lb 10oz
4th Tony Hickmott 1lb 10oz
5th Dennis Hunt 12oz
6th Malcolm Ogden 4oz
Next Wednesday we are fishing the GUC at Braggenham side, section 2, so non-members can join us. Meet for 8.30 Draw in the lane and fish 10 till 3 £1.00 peg fee £5.00 optional pools

Wyboston
Dave M, Mark Brooks and Warren Griffiths spent a nice sunny Saturday morning in the sunshine dealing with the recent storm damaged and rotten trees around South Lagoon and along the River at Wyboston good progress was made but still more to do.

Eaton Ford
After working on the fallen trees at Wyboston on Saturday I popped up the road to Eaton Ford to have a look at the backwater to see how it was progressing as it was a bit of a muddy mess the last time I saw it as it had just been excavated. You'll see from the pictures its now starting to look amazing! The bailiffs have asked me to reming members that the ground in the car park can become boggy after very wet weather so please avoid parking inside the second gate if the ground is boggy.

Annual General Meeting
It's looking like we will finally be able to hold an AGM after COVID prevented us from holding one during 2020 and 2021 it will be held on 24th March 2022 at Stopsley Working Men's Club, 3 Putteridge Road, Luton LU2 8HG. Members are encouraged to attend.

That's all for this week,

Remember all catch photos submitted are automatically entered into our monthly photo competition and the winner is chosen at the end of each month by the Luton AC committee.
A slow week for reports as the adverse weather conditions in the later part of this week have meant fewer anglers on the bank. Following the high winds please take care at our venues and always look up and around you and assess the condition of any trees above you. Our bailiffs do inspect the venues regularly but if you do see anything that poses a hazard please let us know so we can deal with it.
Beckerings Reservoir
Bill Ridgway spent a very windy day today at Beckerings but after taking advice from Bailiff Mark, he finally caught the bream. 3 nice bream 8 to 9 lbs and a 2lb roach which looked as if big pike or catfish had got hold of it at some point.
Amer Jawad spent another few hours at Beckerings reservoir in search of his first double figure bream. The search goes on as he fell short catching 8 bream which went 67lb 6oz’s… smallest fish went 7lb 12oz’s and the largest fish 9lb 2oz’s!! Thanks to club member Liam who helped weigh the fish and took the pictures.
Wyboston Complex
After Storm Eunice had done its worst the Wyboston bailiff team were out very early Saturday morning dealing with the trail of destruction that she left. The access track and swims are now clear with several branches and debris removed by the bailiffs Brian, Warren Sam and Paul. They also managed to do some weed clearing in North House which was the original plan before the weather decided to create more urgent remedial works around the South Lagoon and along the River. In amongst some of the weed they found a very small pike

Match Report, Three Locks GUC 17th Feb 2022
On a fine, warm, and breezy February morning 13 anglers met in the car park at Three Locks on Wednesday, and it was pleasing to see some new faces again.

The Three Locks flight is currently drained for repair, so no boats are moving on the canal, and after the last few days heavy rain and wind the Canal was a dirty mahogany brown colour, with plenty of floating debris from the surrounding trees, making presentation difficult.
As the cutting is reasonably sheltered, we were able to continue fishing as the wind rose significantly later in the match.

All the anglers struggled to find fish which seemed reluctant to feed, perhaps because of the recent influx of cold water, fluctuations in air temperature and atmospheric pressure.
Dave Abbott took his first fish (which didn’t count) on a bare hook when checking his float shotting prior to the whistle!

Bart Bonito fishing Squatt took some roach and a perch to weigh 1lb 8oz and take first place, while Steve Lathwell took roach and a skimmer to weigh in 1lb 1oz.

Dennis Hunt and Dave Abbott took half a dozen small roach each to tie on 7oz. Tony Hickmott fishing worm dropped in near the edge while drinking his soup and the float shot away as his bait was taken by an obliging 4oz Perch to take 4th place!

Roger Baker was fishing worm and hooked and lost the biggest fish of the day which ran and snagged in the bushes opposite.

It was a difficult day and the rest of the field struggled; several anglers returned DNW on what turned out to be a very challenging outing.

Results
1st Bart Bonito 1lb 8oz
2nd Steve Lathwell 1lb 1oz

Next week is members only as we are fishing our first ‘Inter Club’ of the year against Wellingborough on Tuesday (note change of usual day). This was to be on the River Nene, but due to recent flooding has been transferred to Mill Cotton. We are limited to 15 a side so those intending to come need to notify Dennis Hunt in advance. Meet for 8.30 Draw fish 10 till 3 £1.00 peg fee £5.00 optional pools.

Club President and Luton AC Legend - David Edwards
It is with great sadness that the club has to report the passing of Club President David Edwards. David died at home just 6 weeks after he was diagnosed with bone cancer. David joined Luton AC in 1957 when he was just 20 years old and through the years he devoted a huge amount of his time to running the club. He fulfilled pretty much all of the roles within the club at one point or another and was chairman for many years and there is no doubt that he played a pivotal role in getting the club to its centenary year. A big part of the club history will be missing without him. He will be missed and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. Rest in Peace Dave.

Beckerings Reservoir
A couple of trips to Beckerings reservoir for Amer Jawad this week. On the first trip it took over an hour to get his first bite, but it was worth the wait as he managed the first of 4 large bream over 8lb and 3 roach, one being around 1lb 8oz! A feature on this trip will be out on the All-Round Angler website at the end of this month - check it out.
On his second trip he left the feeder rods at home and ventured to the reservoir with just a couple of waggler rods. He was in search of some of the waters big roach. 20m out, it was a bit windy so he opted for firing balls of groundbait at the float. 2 hours with no bites then started to get a few bites from some lovely roach! His comments were that it was a really enjoyable afternoons fishing.

Beckerings Bailiffs Rob and Mark also fished the reservoir this week, Rob fishing for Bream hooked into a Pike whilst Bream fishing with a single red maggot on a size 16 hook. It certainly tested his skills getting it to the net. Mark had Roach of 2lb 5oz, 1lb 15oz and others over 1lb along with smaller Roach and Perch. He was using a waggler, size 16 hook and double red maggot.
Wednesday Match Report, River Ouse Biddenham
9th Feb 2022
Today, On a lovely late winter morning 10 anglers gathered to fish at Biddenham. The river looked great with a decent flow and a tinge of colour after the recent heavy rain. The morning was clear with no overnight frost, with an air temperature at 8C and a breeze blowing up the river giving a slight ripple.
The river looked in good form, but anglers struggled to find fish. Dennis Hunt pegged in swim 7 managed to temp a few fish by feeding Pinkies and Hemp, with double maggot on the hook at 12 Mtrs using a 1.5 Gram float. Bites were positive but when the wind dropped midday the bites vanished, returning when the wind stated pick up again towards the end of the match. He finished with 3 Chub, a decent Dace and a few Roach to weigh in 3lb 6oz and take first place.
Steve Lathwell was struggling for bites and stuck a worm down the edge in the last half hour to snare a Perch of just over a pound to give 1lb 6oz for second place. Dave Abbott weighed 8oz for 3rd, and Chris Howard lost what was believed to be a decent Chub within the first half hour. The rest of the field struggled several returning DNW on what turned out to be a challenging day.

Match Report, Town North 2nd Feb 2022
With the days starting to draw out again this week was the eagerly anticipated Wednesday Group return to the bank after our January break.
We had 12 anglers turn up to fish, despite some regulars being absent through illness or having to isolate. It was great to see Chris Howard fit and back on the bank again after his recent hospitalisation.
Wednesday was a bright mild day, with a breeze, giving rise to a ripple and surface water movement, so conditions were challenging, some anglers benefitting with swims more sheltered than others.
All fishing caught with no dry nets, bread being the most successful bait, with Chris Howard taking most of his fish on it, Bart Bonito caught on bread at 5 metres at the start and then moved out fishing Pinkie over groundbait.
A few fish were taken on worm down the track, with others fishing Squatt.
Ray Burton hooked and lost a large fish early on, believed to be a pike, which was confirmed later as it returned several times to attack his keepnet during the afternoon.

Grand Union Canal
The bailiff was told from a few sources that a 7 year old boy had a 23lb Pike from the canal in Leighton Buzzard. He was shown a photo which we were told would be sent to us unfortunately we are yet to receive it. A crowd gathered while the lad played the fish and his granddad had to hold his waist as he was worried the fish might pull him in. A fish of a lifetime for a youngster hopefully we will get the pictures.

Despite the rain and strong winds 14 year old Natalia was back out on the Canal at Section 10 today continuing with her litter picking as part of the Duke of Edinburgh award. Disappointingly some of the litter gathered today was clearly angling related - Take Your Litter Home!!. Well done Natalia keep up the good work!
