You can contact us via the facebook page or the website and don’t forget all pictures sent in are automatically entered in to our monthly photo competition and a £25.00 prize is awarded each month for the best photo (Winner chosen by the Luton AC board)

Beckerings Reservoir
The most notable catch this week was for Neil Cox who fished at Beckerings over the weekend. He lost one fish but then only 20 minutes later he beat his Personal Best with a Common weighing in at 30lb 5oz. He also had another Common of 18lb 2oz.

River Ouse and South Lagoon - Wyboston
Usually around this time of the year the attention at Wyboston turns to the predator fishing. The River and the South Lagoon offer fantastic predator fishing with Specimen size Pike, Perch and Zander present. On Tuesday this week regular Wojciech caught a nice 15lb 10oz Pike from South Lagoon. The River also holds some huge Chub and now is a good time to target them.

Grand Union Canal
Some sections of the canal are fishing very well at the moment on Thursday on section 8 one of the coaches was with a youngster who in 4 hours had over 28lb of Bream, Perch and Roach all on Maggot/Groundbait feeder. The bailiff says some areas of the canal are like an aquarium at the moment so it’s well worth giving it a go. Last week another angler had 8 nice Bream and about 150 other mixed fish.

Match Reports
Rive How End AC
Rive How End AC fished the Slapton stretch on the Grand Union Canal today (25/10/20). They expected great things as there were good weights from this section a couple of weeks back but the skimmers appear to have moved on leaving behind a few bigger bream. Mike Clarke made the best of his end peg by obliterating the field with a fantastic 17lb 15oz of bream between 2 and 4lb to win. Phil Stone had a bonus bream on the feeder to supplement a net of small roach and just pipped Ken Kendall for the runner up spot!

Top 3 on the day were:
1) Mike Clarke - 17lb 15oz
2) Phil Stone - 3lb 10oz 8dm
3) Ken Kendall - 3lb 0oz

Abbey Lads
Abbey Lads fished the section known as the Mud flats on the Canal and here are their results.

P. Deppe 2lb 4oz (1lb 8oz perch)
D. Smith 1lb 13oz
D. Whillock 1lb 11oz
K. Ward 1lb 4oz
L. Willis 14oz

It was hard going and no bream showed there was also a lot of boat traffic due to the start of the half term holidays.

Match report from Hanwell Prince of Wales at Biddenham.
Nine anglers fished the match and said they enjoyed a very pleasant day on the lovely stretch of river at Biddenham, results could have been better but it did not detract from a very good and enjoyable days fishing.

Top 5 weights came from the small bridge area and are as follows:

1st & 2nd weights 5lb
3rd 4lb 1oz
4th 4lb
5th 3lb
and so on down to 1lb 2oz

The biggest fish was a perch at just over 1lb, and they also had some roach approaching 1lb. Lots of small roach and subsequently quite a few annoying pike made an appearance.

Wednesday Match Group Report
The Wednesday match group didn't fish yesterday due to the heavy rain. They went to Biddenham and met in the car park and looked at the River which looked in fine condition but decided to call it off as they didn't want another soaking.

Colin and Jim stayed on prepared to brave the wet weather after the rest left. They fished pegs 11 & 12 Jim went feeder far side and had perch using chopped worm the best was 1lb 6oz he also fished the pole holding back taking bleak and the odd roach.

Colin went with stick float and had 64 roach some required use of the landing net he also had 1 perch, 5 dace and 6 bleak All caught on Dennis Hunts casters. The rain stopped in the late afternoon and they stayed until 5.45pm.

There is no match next week due to half term holidays, but the group intend to go to Wyboston the week after 4/11/20 with a 9am draw and non-members are welcome to join in as it is a Day ticket water.

Venue Maintenance
Maintenance on the track at Wyboston was carried out on Saturday morning to try and improve the condition of the track between North House and the River. A 6 tonne excavator was used to scrape the surface and has made a big improvement. Whilst still far from perfect a lot of the bad pot holes and bumps have been levelled out. Further work will be carried out in spring next year when the weather warms up. The plan is to use several tons of road scalpings and a roller to further fill holes and improve the overall condition of the track. The club thanks venue bailiff Brian Turner for providing and operating the machinery today and also Dave Murdoch for assisting as banksman and not forgetting Dave Farmer for providing the refreshments.
Tight Lines until Next Week

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area Week Ending 18th October 2020

Here is the weekly news round up from Luton Angling Club for the week ending 18th October 2020.

South Lagoon Wyboston

On South Lagoon last Sunday Robert Golinczak caught a rather strange but healthy looking pike with a deformed upper jaw.

Wyboston regular Wojciech’s session started off well with 2 perch to 2lb 6oz and 3 pike to 14lb 9oz.
River Ouse – Lavendon Mill

Lavendon Bailiff Bob Burdiak spent the day on the upstream section (the deep end) The river was in perfect form and had a gentle flow with a hint of colour. He had a good day catching nice Roach, Perch and some nice skimmers. All were taken on a small cage feeder using caster, dead reds or worm sections. Three Roach were snaffled by Pike while reeling in and of course missing a lot of bites was par for the course.

Beckerings Reservoir

Tim Marler was Pike fishing at Beckerings he caught the fish known as Yellow Spot weighing in at 19lb the fish was caught using half a Mackerel on a barbless circle hook. He caught the same fish on spam a couple of months ago when targeting the Cats and it weighed 18lb then so obviously is feeding up for the winter but based on previous captures its weight is down a few pounds at the moment as it has previously weighed in around the 21-22lb mark.

North House Lake

Paul Parkinson was on North House for a 48hr session and managed to get two lovely Common carp one at 23lb and the other at 21lb 1oz all caught on Mad Baits Esta and Iso Cream with crushed up nut boilies.

Paul fished North House again this weekend for 24 hours and managed another 20lb 12oz Common on Wicked White Pop Up and Chopped Nut Boilies.

Dave Brown had a good result with 4 fish in a 48hr session the weights ranging from 14lb to 23lb.

Kempston Lake

A nice 7lb Tench for Junior member Callum at Kempston.

Repairs to Wyboston Track

Visitors to the River and North House Lake at Wyboston will know that the access track is in a poor condition again and in need of repair work. The club will be carrying out repairs to the track on Saturday 24th October and machinery will be in operation along the access track. The plan is to initially scrape and level the track and then early next year when the weather improves further work will take place and road scalpings will be added and rolled. Members should be aware that while the South Lagoon, River Ouse and North House Lake remain open on the 24th there will be times when access is restricted so you may have to wait for a short time to enter or leave the venue. There will also be considerable disturbance and noise while the work is carried out. Please park well clear of the track especially along the section between the River and North House Lake.

Match Reports

Nine met this week on a chilly autumn morning to fish our Town South section by the White Bridge in Leighton Buzzard.

Initial conditions were sunny with a slight breeze, which changed around midday when we had a heavy rain squall. This changed again into another bright spell until another rain squall hit about 3pm. We had a good match with the Canal fishing well, but water temperatures are dropping. At the moment the fish are still feeding well.

Most started on bread punch, some managing to keep fish coming on this bait, while others switched to feeding Squatt and fishing Pinkies with a little groundbait nearside and feeding Caster over. John Grey had a proper bream at 3lb 9oz and some nice skimmers for 9lb 9oz. Jim Tookey took second place with a nice mixed bag of Roach, Perch and Skimmers for 9lb 5oz .Richard Gibbs was third with a nice Perch among a mixed bag for 5lb 8oz.

Dennis hunt took a nice Canal Roach of 14oz in his catch, the biggest Canal roach caught on a Luton match for some time. Several were bothered by Pike Barry Roper having a large fish attack his keepnet. Nuala Gray had several hooked fish attacked.

Luton Club Coaches compete in Canal Pairs Competition

Two of the Club Coaches Myles Tommey and Dennis Hunt fished in the Canal Pairs heat at Foxton on the Grand Union Canal last weekend, and for a pair of rank outsiders who didn't know the water the mid table finish of 8th out of 16 was considered pretty reasonable. The match fished pretty hard following the sharp dip in overnight temperature and a strong cold wind.

Myles drew the peg numbers, Dennis had peg A16, Myles peg B7, and after walking to their pegs. they set up waiting for the off.

Myles match started short on Punch, but after only one bite in the first 20 Mins he decided to change to pinkie over on the far shelf where he had fed groundbait and Squatt. This brought him some roach which appeared intermittently during the day, but unfortunately the bites dried up completely in the last 40 Minutes.

Dennis’s match again started on Punch and it was difficult to hit bites and he only landed three roach in the first 45 mins, so decided to swap the punch line to pinkie and had more success. He had a lot of boats through, some of which crossed right in front of him around midday but after the water settled he had a golden hour with small perch. There were then another couple of boats and the swim seemed to switch off for some time.

It switched back on again in the middle of a rainstorm when it was blowing a gale. Dennis hooked and landed a Roach which he dropped because of cold wet hands and then had another few fish until the swim died again but it did come back alive for the last 30 minutes of the match. Had he not dropped that roach he’d have been 5th in section.

Here is Myles in his swim B7 just before the off on Saturday morning.

Luton A.C. will be jointly hosting a heat of this competition on 13th June next year with Tring, when Luton's Ivinghoe and Tring's Red Lion sections will be used.

Tight Lines until next Week,

Dave – Luton AC

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area Week Ending 11th October 2020

Week Ending 11th October 2020 - Lots of very wet weather this week however reports have still been coming in. Because of the recent heavy and persistent rain many of our river sections (and canal sections) have been in flood - Our bailiffs at Eaton Ford saw the River rise by about 10 Inches while they were working there and it was also a similar scene at Wyboston. We were informed that in Leighton Buzzard some parts of the Grand Union Canal actually overflowed. Following all the wet weather members are advised to check the ground conditions where they are parking to avoid getting vehicles stuck and churning up the car parks as this damage can be difficult and costly to repair.

 Beckerings Reservoir

A Quick overnighter by Tom Harris at Beckerings resulted in the Half Lin at an impressive weight of 35lb 14oz he also had a 25lb 10oz Mirror and another Mirror of 19lb 8oz Mirror all were pristine looking fish.

North House Lake

Lee Chamberlain braved the wet weather at North House Lake and was rewarded with the fish known as Terry’s Mirror (identifiable by its missing pelvic fin) the fish is a new PB for Lee at 29lb 8oz.

River Ouse

An Angler called Robert (we did not get his surname) caught a nice 5lb chub from the River Great Ouse just before the very heavy rain put the river in flood.

South Lagoon
On Sunday 4th Regular Wyboston angler Wojciech had 2 Pike here is a picture of the biggest fish.

Kempston Lake

Kieran Cove sent in a selection of his catches so far this year from Kempston Lake. The biggest one weighing in at 29lb 14oz. Members should be aware that there are currently major roadworks along the B530 which is the road the entrance to Kempston Lake is on. We have now been told access will be maintained for members throughout the works please follow specific directions from the contractors as access may change during the progress of the works we have also seen in the news that there are lots of delays in the area due to the road closure.

Grand Union Canal

Andy Ayres fished the canal this week and had a nice chunky 2lb 7oz Perch.

Venue Works

Lavendon – Bailiff Roger spent some time clearing litter from the layby parking area – We usually get the blame for leaving this litter however clearly none of this litter can be proven to be angling related and was unlikely left by anglers as the layby is used by many people as it is publicly accessible– but as usual our bailiffs go above and beyond and clear up this litter.

Eaton Ford – Glenn Daniels was at Eaton Ford this week carrying out more improvement works including clearing more swims, preparing he area around the backwater for the planned development works and also making the car parking area larger. The amount of work that Stuart and Glenn put in at Eaton Ford is truly amazing (not forgetting the work all our other bailiffs do of course). All this work goes toward match funding which the club has to provide in cash and hours worked to enable us to access funding for improvement projects at our venues including the current one at Eaton Ford to desilt and enlarge the backwater.

Match Reports

Queen's Works A.C.
Queens Works AC were on the Grand Union Canal last Sunday at The Globe pub near Leighton Buzzard, for their 9th Summer League match.

Hanwell Prince of Wales A.C.

On arrival, the area was in flood and the canal was coloured and flowing like a river. 16 anglers had to work very hard for bites in the pouring rain.

Richard Newman drew peg 1 next to the bridge and fished waggler and maggot to catch 2 big perch, a good skimmer and some roach for a winning weight of 5lbs 4oz.

Steve Cooper was runner-up with 4lbs 7oz of roach and skimmers and Stuart Kiteley was third with 3lbs 7oz.

Dave Pearson won section 1 with 3lbs 6oz.

Phil Mann won section 2 with 2lbs 8oz and the last section was won by Paul Nicholls with 1lb 9oz.

The Wooden Spoon was awarded to Roy Chamberlain, who after a good breakfast at home, fell asleep and missed the match.

Hanwell Prince of Wales AC sent us this brief report from their match at Slapton last weekend.

"An extremely wet Sunday saw just five of us turn out to fish at Slapton. The top weight was 18lb 10oz, including Perch of 2-14-0 and Bream to nearly 4lb. After this the second weight was 6lb 10oz.

A very nice-looking stretch of canal that we will book again"

Wednesday Match Group 7th October 2020

It was brilliant fishing at Town North in Leighton Buzzard on Wednesday for the regular Wednesday Match Group with three weights over 7lbs recorded. On a bright, but slightly cooler autumn morning with and air temperature of 10C and a light breeze, the group found the Canal high and very coloured after the recent heavy rain, but very fishable.

Seven competed, and it was good to welcome another two newcomers, Jim Tookey and Myles Tommey this week. The Canal is fishing well and producing some great weights at the moment. Many fish were caught close nearside, with Bream, Roach Perch and Gudgeon showing.

Successful baits were large maggot, Pinkies, Bread Punch and some fish taken on Caster. First fish for Myles was an orange and white Koi of about a pound, obviously escaped or liberated from somebody’s pond and he also took a nice Perch of 1lb 12oz which lead him a merry dance under a boat. Richard Gibbs also took a Roach of about a pound in his catch.

Well done to Barry Roper, Richard Gibbs, and Myles Tommey who took the money this week.

1st Barry Roper 8lb 3oz

2nd Richard Gibbs 7lb 13oz

3rd Myles Tommey 7lb 6oz

4th Colin Holmes 4lb 10 oz

5th Dennis Hunt 3lb 8oz

6th Jim Tookey 2lb 1oz

Mick Copperwheat DNW

This week the group will fish Town South by the Green Bridge, draw at 9am Fish 10am till 3pm £5.00 optional pools. As this is a day ticket venue non-members may join them if they wish.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area Week Ending 4th October 2020

Here is all this week's news and catch reports from Luton Angling Club and despite the quite wet and windy weather it’s been another good week with some cracking fish being caught. Don’t forget to send us all your catch reports big or small as we really like seeing them. You can send reports and pictures via our facebook page or website or from your phone for free via Whats App message to 07940 229071.

Beckerings Reservoir

On only his second session targeting the reservoirs Catfish Dale Carter had the best possible result landing the big one weighing in at a whopping 62lb he thanks fellow member James Newill for his help.

Neil Cox fished a hard 48hr session earlier in the week and after a decision to move to the opposite end of the lake half way through the session he had 2 Carp both over 20lb - a Mirror at 25lb 3oz and a Common of 23lb 8oz.

Rob Griffiths fished his first ever session at the reservoir which although very wet was worth it as he had 4 fish - Commons of 22lb 13oz, 17lb 6oz and 14lb and a Mirror of 16lb 7oz.

Also braving the heavy and pretty much constant rain at Beckerings was Jamie Squires who caught a Mirror weighing 25lb and a Common of 20lb 8oz he also had 4 Bream the largest of which was 8lb all the fish were caught in darkness and in the rain!
North House Lake

Following his session at Beckerings Neil Cox moved over to North House Lake at Wyboston and had a fantastic session with new PB of 29lb 12oz. When he saw the fish surface near the net his legs went to jelly and once it was landed he didn't care if he caught anything else however another five fish ended up in his net during the session these were commons of 29lb 3oz, 25lb 12oz, 25lb 2oz, 19lb 6oz and 15lb 13oz all were caught using madbaits

Iain Duck had a 24lb 12oz near perfect and beautifully coloured Common on Saturday.

River Ouse Wyboston

Jordan Philip spent a few hours spinning on the River Ouse at Wyboston and had 4 Jack Pike.

River Ouse Biddenham

Gareth Evans had an 8lb 5oz Pike during a very wet Friday afternoon session.

River Ouse Lavendon

Hard working Lavendon bailiffs Roger and Bob were out working on the Lavendon downstream stretch on Thursday morning. Strimming was done, hopefully for the last time this year, and some bushes and reeds were cut back. Also they took out a couple of large branches from swim no.1, which the mill owner Mick kindly helped them with. It was already a cracking swim with enough space for 2 angling mates to fish, but the two overhanging branches meant a strike upwards risked a broken rod!

Roger then fished the swim for two hours in the afternoon with maggot feeder and he caught a superb amount of Dace around the 4oz mark not huge in size but they gave a good scrap and of course a few nice Roach were also caught. He's said he's sure a trotted float would get a substantial bag of fish during a day session.

Wednesday Match Report

Four fished Three Locks on Wednesday, including two new faces, on a day that started fine and dry with an air temperature of 10C, but ended up with them all getting wet again! All had an enjoyable (if slightly damp) day but unfortunately no pictures of the winning catch (Dennis Hunt) due to issues with a Camera in the rain.

The winning catch for Dennis Hunt consisted of 116 fish comprising Rudd, Roach, Gudgeon, Perch, Skimmers and Hybrids for 8lbs 10oz, most caught on Pinkies on the 4-metre line and Casters over, which is where the Rudd were found.

Colin Holmes had three good perch and some roach, and lost a couple more perch, one being a good fish that broke him. He ended the day with 5lb 9 oz. The ever reliable Barry Roper had 4lb 12oz, mainly consisting of roach with a couple of Perch.

Mick Copperwheat finished with 1lb 12oz.

Next week the group originally planned to be on the Ouse at Wyboston but due to the rain the venue has been changed to the Grand Union Canal Town North in Leighton Buzzard behind Tesco Draw at 9am fish 10 till 3, £5.00 optional pools.

As this is a day ticket venue non-members may join us but will need to buy a day ticket from the bailiff on the Bank.
