There have been fewer reports this week, probably due to the poor weather.

NEW JUNIOR CLUB RECORD - DEXTER ALLEN 2lb 10oz PERCH
We reported Dexters 2lb 10oz Perch from the South Lagoon in last weeks edition. We are pleased to announce that the catch was submitted and accepted as a new Junior club record beating the current Junior record of 2lb 4oz 4dr which was caught from the Grand Union Canal back in 1991.

Although Dexter was targeting pike at the time, the perch decided it wanted his 10cm Fox zander pro shad that was mounted on a 5g jig head to a wire trace on his 40lb braided baitcaster setup it was overpowered very quickly but still gave a good account of itself.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
Reservoir bailiff Neil Cox had 5 carp during a 24hr session on Beckerings, All in double figures and the biggest went 18lb 14oz. All the fish were caught on mad baits wafters and pop ups. His top tip is to watch till they show where they are.

WEDNESDAY MATCH GROUP REPORT
23 November 2022 - Eaton Ford
After the high attendances in recent weeks, the match at Eaton Ford was attended by only four anglers due to the other regular attendees having various prior appointments, meetings, work commitments, and illness this week, After the extremely heavy rain this week, this was probably just as well because the main river was running through at a rate of knots and the lower pegs were difficult to access because of the ground conditions.
Stewart, our friendly venue bailiff, met us and advised against going down that way, and the four present decided to fish the back water.
Just to make us feel at home, it started to pour down with rain again and a gusting wind got up as the day started. However, later in the morning, we had some sun to dry us out, but another heavy shower appeared before close of play. We fished 9.45 to 14.30.
All those fishing reported having fun despite the weather!

COACHING UPDATE
The club coaching team held the second of their winter 'off bank' sessions for the young Kingfisher anglers on Saturday afternoon, which everyone enjoyed.
They started with a simple general angling quiz, and then went on to demonstrate setting up a seatbox properly, followed by some practice in controlling a long pole potting a ping pong ball into different size targets.
After that they did a bit of knot tying practice learning a simple clinch knot.
The next session is Saturday 10th December, and they have lots of ideas from the lads on what they want to do on that afternoon already.

Dexter Allen worked his socks off today - he and dad Edward started at Eaton Ford and fished for 4 hours and then spent 3 hours on North House Lake and then the last bit of the session on the South Lagoon. His perseverance and hard work paid off as he had this fantastic 2lb 10oz Perch on a 10cm Zander Pro Shad. Edward had some small perch on a 5cm worm jig.

Some good catches this week with Sean Watts and Max Beresford both beating their PB's

Sean was absolutely buzzing after netting his PB Mirror Carp at 33lb 3oz. A conflict of opinions on the Facebook page saying it's either the fish known as "The Wanderer" or Terry's Mirror looking at previous pictures of both fish I can confirm it is indeed Terry's Mirror.

Max had his New PB a Common of 28lb 1oz. He also had another Common of 17lb 8oz while packing away at the end of the session.

Match Report, Wednesday 16th November 2022 GUC Cooks Wharf
After heavy rain on Tuesday, Wednesday morning dawned damp but clear as we gathered to fish the Canal at Cooks Wharf. The towpath in this area isn’t the best and after the rain, it was slippery and quite muddy, and we held our draw just past Bridge 125, the West Coast rail bridge.
Due to the numbers fishing and many moored boats, our peggers had trouble fitting us all in, and some had long walks to their pegs this week. The morning brightened, and the sun came out bringing some welcome warmth before disappearing again about midday when the temperature noticeably dropped, and it clouded over.
Fortunately, the rain stayed away until we all got home, and nobody got wet this week!
We had no boats for the first hour and had 5 in the second, one of which was a double-breasted pair that stirred up the water considerably through the narrows. After this disturbance, there were no more boats for the rest of the day. Most anglers saw the pair of Kingfishers working the far bank and the Muntjac watching us from the wood opposite.
With the recent cold rain entering the canal and colour in the water most anglers opted to start using bread punch which proved by far the best bait of the day, although bites from the roach were often frustrating affairs being a slight dip or half sink of the bristle. Most of the roach came from the inside line at about 5 metres. The bigger bream failed to show, although our winner Ian Wing had a nice net of skimmers at 14 metres. Only odd perch were caught, smaller ones on maggot and pinkie, larger ones generally on chopped worm.
Our winner this week was Ian Wing with 11lb 10oz with Richard Darbon second with 6lb 15oz. Third was taken by Dave Smith with 5lb 2oz and in fourth place was Terry Vickers and Simon Faulkes tied with 3lb 9oz. It was tight in the middle again this week with ounces between anglers.
There weren’t any pictures of catches this week due to long walks and gathering darkness!

Many thanks to and to all those who assisted with both the draw, pegging out, and weighing in this week. Without the team effort it would be difficult to run these matches.
Next week, we will fish the River at Eaton Ford, so members only meet in the car park for 8-30 draw fish 10 till 3, £5.00 optional pools, and £1.00 Luton peg fee.

IFM Fisheries Management Workshop
Over the weekend, club representatives Brian Turner and Dave Murdoch attended a fisheries management workshop at the EA's national fisheries laboratory at Brampton.
The 2 day course was delivered by the IFM (Institute of Fisheries Management) on behalf of the Environment Agency. We had the opportunity to learn about a whole range of topics around Fisheries Management including fish biology and health, water quality testing, stocking and fish habitats, invasive species, and predation. We found the event extremely interesting and came away with lots of useful knowledge that will help us manage our waters and keep our fish happy and healthy.

A report from Bob Burdiak who fished Lavendon Mill upstream recently and had a good day. He had blue sky and sunshine all day. The River was up a few inches but still had very little flow, there is still some colour. The water was flat calm on his arrival with fish topping and movement from shoals of large fry which is good to see.
After some 2 hours it was obvious he was catching well so he put the keepnet in for a while for a photo opportunity. Fishing double caster on small cage feeder bites were consistent all day.
A large pike easily over 10lb took a roach but spat it out at the net, RIP Roach
Some nice perch also showed up.

River Ouse Eaton Ford - A day on the flake
Nobby Clarke fished Eaton Ford on Saturday from 7am until 2.15pm. He had a really good session which started with a chub of 1lb on his first trot down, then it was roach all the way. He had 17 good roach with nothing smaller than 8oz the best went 14oz and the chosen bait was bread flake while feeding hemp.
It was a good idea to have a day on the bread and using nice big bits they were hammering it. He was using stick and pin tactics. The flow is now dying down a bit so more rain is needed .
Nobby met another member by the name of Les who was fishing for perch and he thinks he had a couple, he also had one rod out for Pike. Nobby said he was a very nice fella and was also at EF last Saturday as his mate Geoff had a chat with him last week.
He said his session was thoroughly enjoyable with low wind, unlike Thursday of this week! He had far better quality Roach,
Although gaining in popularity it would be really good to see a few more members at Eaton Ford and a few more catch reports.
This venue is a little gem and immaculately kept by the bailiff team but it needs some bait going in. The fish will play if you feed them.

Wednesday Match Group Report - River Nene Barnwell Plantation River Nene
It was still very dark this week as we all met for breakfast at the Raunds Services on the A45 before 7am, to have breakfast, Our venue this week was Barnwell plantation on the River Nene, a Wellingborough water which we had arranged to fish under our inter-club agreement.
After driving from Raunds to the venue and parking the day dawned bright and clear with an air temperature of 8C and a midday water temperature recorded at 11.2C. The rain stayed away until we were loading cars at the end. when we had a small shower, The river looked great with a decent steady flow but was running very clear, and we all set off with high hopes of some good weights of roach.
It was soon apparent we were going to find the going tough, perhaps due to the recent cold rain entering the river and lack of colour in the water. Bites were at a premium from the off, and all most anglers could contact were very small perch, which seemed the only fish willing to feed. Those fishing tried whip, pole, waggler feeder and straight leads with a variety of baits, bread, maggot, pinkie, caster, hemp, tare and worm but nothing produced more than odd bites from smaller fish for most, weights mostly being in ounces rather than pounds!
Our winners this week were Richard Gibbs and Steve Osman who tied on 2lb 10oz. Third was taken by Bart Bonito with 2lb 1oz and fourth was Steve Lathwell with 1lb 7oz. Richard Darbon was fifth with 1lb 1oz.

New "Friday Club" Social and Work Party Group
The Club have numbers of waters that we continually need to maintain to ensure they are in good order, safe and accessible. Most of our work parties are held at weekends due to work commitments from the current officials and volunteers.
We have recently been looking at how other clubs tackle these issues, and one of the suggestions is we form an informal ‘Friday Club’ where members who might have some time available can meet at our waters to carry out agreed light maintenance tasks with hand tools like pole saws, bow saws, and loppers.
The idea is that we initially meet one Friday a month at one of our waters, have a chat and a laugh, drink some tea and coffee, exchange ideas, get some light exercise, and do a few hours work pruning vegetation and clearing swims to assist our water bailiffs.
We have approached the Wednesday match group and they seem happy to get involved, but we would like to know if anyone else is interested in joining in. We have lots of jobs for everyone, and can cater for all abilities, we need people to paint gates, rake leaves and make the tea!
If you are interested in finding out more, can you please contact the Club via our social media pages or the club website.

Coaching Updates
The Canal and River trust have launched some youtube videos this week, One from the National Celebration of Young People and Fishing and the other from the National Commonwealth Communities Celebration which were events held in September. Some of our club cadets and juniors did really well in these events which is testament to the efforts of our coaching team.

Here are the links to the videos.
