Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report 16th July 2017

It was great to see so many children attend the latest Lets Fish event hosted by Luton Angling Club & the Canal & Rivers Trust on the Grand Union Canal at the Three Locks on Saturday 15th July. Despite the damp conditions all 65 time slots were booked up well in advance and extra fishing stations had to be put out to meet demand. The event ran for 5hrs with considerable time and effort from our qualified coaches and volunteers going into arranging the day along with the setting up and packing down making it a full day for those involved. Well done to all, hopefully we now have a few more children & families that will take up angling. If you missed out on this event our next Lets Fish event is at the Globe PH section on Sunday 20th August 2017 keep an eye on our Facebook page for more details.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR

The reservoir continues to fish well with multiple catches commonplace. Filip Dunaj managed several with a 21lb 8oz mirror being his best, Keiran Cove caught 3 good sized carp, Adrain Jaworski 2 commons to 18lb 2oz, Tommy Pattison a 16lb common and 19lb mirror with new member Karl Jones landing a 17lb common.

GRAND UNION CANAL

Steve Sharp spent 2 hours searching for the carp on the canal and then less than 1 minute with his bait in the water before landing a 19lb 12oz mirror. Steve then packed up and went home very happy with his minute spent fishing.

The dredge is working between the Grove Pub and Grove Church but the fish aren't being put off with good bags of skimmers, perch, better bream and roach being caught even right next to the dredge itself.

EATON FORD

The river Great Ouse at Eaton Ford continues to produce good sized tench and eels during daylight hours on a variety of baits in the deep water.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report 2nd July 2017

A sad start to this weeks news with the passing of our President Peter Frost.
An old friend of Peter's phoned our Secretary today to let us know and to advise that the funeral will take place at the Crematorium, Stopsley Luton on Thursday 20th July at 2.00 pm then onto the United Services Club in Dunstable where Peter was a member for 40 years.

Personally I only met Peter a handful of times usually at the clubs AGM and fishing the Grand Union Canal at Grove Church where he would out fish my boilies using simple worm tactics landing numerous double figure carp while I sat fishless.

An all round specimen angler Peter fished with well known carpers such as Jack Hilton, Bill Quinlan and Len Arbery to name just a few during the early 1960s catching a 31lb carp from Tiddenfoot which was I believe the biggest caught in the UK in the 1960/61 season.

Jack Hilton wrote about Peters exploits in his book Quest for Carp and he was inducted to Carp-Talks Hall of Fame in 2014.

He set up various specimen groups including one for perch on the River Great Ouse and wrote books which you can still get hold of today.

Fishing has lost a legend. Those who had the privilege to know him, have lost an irreplaceable friend. Our condolences go out to his family. Peter will be sorely missed by all.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
Kieran Cove caught 8 carp during an overnight session including a 28lb personal best common
Mark Woolley & Gareth Dawkins enjoyed 13 carp to 20lb using Mad Baits Pandemic fished in conjunction with a Korda Cog Lead Rig
