SOUTH LAGOON
Pawel Ceks tempted a 6lb pike

GRAND UNION CANAL
Bailiff Michel Wilkins braved the bitter wind straight in his face at Grove marina for a catch of 8lb comprising 3 bream and half a dozen small fish in just 2.5hrs fishing punch. Sundays better weather saw half a dozen anglers at the marina all catching.

NEW WATERS FOR LUTON AC MEMBERS
For the 2018/19 season via an arrangement with our friends at WDNAC Luton AC members will be able to fish over 6 miles of the River Nene around Wellingborough including the Embankment, Ditchford Main, Ditchford Backbrook, Hardwater Mill, a short section of the River Ise as well as a long section of the Great Ouse at Chellington near Harrold which is only 4 miles from our Lavendon Mill river stretch. Some parts are very urban with others out in the countryside. When we visited last weekend the rivers were very high but the photos hopefully give a flavour of whats on offer. The rivers contain all the usual species to specimen sizes with chub over 7lb, pike over 20lb, very big carp plus specimen sized barbel and perch all caught recently. There are also great shoals of roach and bream for the pleasure angler. No fishing from March 15th to June 15th inclusive.
We are always on the look out for stillwaters so if anyone knows of any becoming available to purchase outright or rent then do send us an email many thanks.

WORK PARTY
Saturdays work party at Beckerings was attended by a total of 9 volunteers mainly the usual suspects Bob B, Barry S and his friend Rob (a work party newbie), Neville H, Kevin H, Dave M, Mark S and his son and one other whose name we did not get. We filled in the majority of potholes along the track (members are requested to drive slowly) we also repaired the barbed wire fence next to the ramp and lots of the small willow branches left in the water from the tree cut were removed. Sadly a lot of litter was collected and a large number of alcohol cans mainly K cider and Scrumpy Jacks cans. Members must take their little home or face being banned from the club.
Dave
and Kevin also improved Platform 9 by installing additional scaffold bars and beams as the deckboards were quite springy due to the overhang. Bacon Rolls and tea was prepared for the volunteers.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 18th March 2018

No reports at all this week which is hardly surprising with the rivers brim full as the river season closed on Wednesday and sub zero temperatures and snow this weekend. Enfield Highway cancelled last Sundays Globe canal match and Abbey Lads Grove Marina event went the same way this Sunday. Surely we must be due some better weather as this winter has been brutal on the fishing.

The 2018 AGM will be held at Stopsley Working Mens Club Putteridge Rd Luton LU2 8HG on Thursday 22nd March 2018 at 8pm.
There is free parking on site and there is also a bar available.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 11th March 2018

Following the snow at the end of last week this week has been very quiet with only Fergal O'Kane sending in a report. Fergal visited the Ouse at Biddenham fishing maggot from Tackle Shed on one rod and caught a couple of dace plus a specimen 2lb 5oz perch. His other rod was out for pike using lamprey from Shadens and a 5lb pike took a liking to that offering. Fergal followed his Saturday success with a trip to the Ouse at Lavendon on Sunday but came away mystified that the river was steaming through with various tree branches coming down and heavily coloured a complete contrast to the fishing he had experience a few miles away the day before.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 4th March 2018

Unsurprisingly there have been no catch reports at all this week. Even our planned work party at Beckerings Reservoir was called off because of the weather and concerns over lying snow.

The Grand Union Canal remains frozen except around bridges and lock entrances and with the thaw about to start any thoughts of getting out on the rivers before the end of the season on 14th March look like they will be scuppered by floods.

MATCH RESULT
Braggers fished the canal below the Three Locks on Sunday 25th February but the 22 competitors must have wished they had stayed in bed as more blanked than caught but thats fishing on the cut when the conditions are freezing
1st 2lbs,
=2nd 10oz
=2nd 10oz
4th 3oz, and
five had 1oz each and the remaining 13 all blanked
Last year at this time they fished the same section and had a great day with perch to a massive 3lb 11oz! Theres always next year and they've already booked it again.

Filip Dunaj appeared with one of his recent Beckerings Reservoir Carp in the weekly Carp-Talk magazine, well done Filip!
