Canal Bailiff Sylvia Sykes - RIP

Sylvia Sykes

The club has received some sad news this evening that Sylvia Sykes has passed away after a short Illness soon after her 70th birthday. Sylvia was a very active canal bailiff with Luton Angling Club for many years but had to give it up as she found herself looking after her grandchildren on a regular basis and her mobility wasn't great however she soldiered on and was a real character. She remained an active angler and was often found fishing with her partner Phil down on the canal. She will be sadly missed.

The volunteers from the Inland Waterways Association were hard at work last Friday and Saturday with their annual clearing of rubbish dumped in the canal. Whilst most of us use the normal routes for disposing of our waste there are those in society who think its ok to use the canal. The photo shows just one of the boats used over the 2 days parked at the Grove Pub. Many thanks from Luton AC to the MK branch of the IWA for their continued hard work which is greatly appreciated.

Week ending 16th October 2016

Week ending 16th October 2016

With the weather cooling and the days getting shorter reports have dropped off but still a few are getting out.

My own 3 hour session along a stretch of the Great Ouse resulted in a string of small perch on an ultra light lure outfit which was great fun. Luton AC have an active predator section so if anyone wants any information or is just starting out please feel free to drop us a line or message us on 07704462635.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
Regular piker Dave Brosnan had the same fish twice this week but wasn't complaining as it weighed in at 23lb. The pike is a known fish due to a distinctive spot on its head and was last reported in early May at 19lb so is packing on weight for winter.

KEMPSTON LAKE
Simon Jeffries is catching well at the moment and continued his good run with a 26lb 5oz mirror from Kempston Lake.
