Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 25th February 2018

With temperatures plummeting and set to drop even lower for the week ahead alot of anglers have chosen to stay at home rather than brave the elements.

GRAND UNION CANAL
The club was out on the Grand Union Canal in the week for another fish move from one of the No Fishing Power Line sections. MEM Fisheries electro-fished the section and moved over 30 Carp to 25lb, 60x 2lb plus Bream and a number of 2lb+ Perch along with thousands of smaller roach and skimmers. These fish have been moved to a section that can be fished safely. Many thanks once again to MEM for all their hard work.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
Carl Clark caught a 17lb 11oz common using a Hydrabaits TNT pop-up cast at showing fish.

Luke Marvin managed a scaley double figure carp on Thripster Pro Fish.

SOUTH LAGOON
Zbigniew fishing with Team CEKS landed a 10lb pike

with Wojciech banking an 8lb pike in the same session.

WORK PARTY/VENUE CLOSURE
Beckerings Reservoir will be closed to angling on Sunday 4th March between 8am & 4pm for a work party. All night anglers must please vacate the water by 8am. Platform repairs and general maintenance is being undertaken and all members are welcome to volunteer as there are always plenty of jobs that need doing. If you have any tools to use on the day such as rechargeable drills then they are always useful. A full list of work party dates is on page 2 of the membership book and will now always involve the closure of the venue.

MATCH RESULT
Barnet AC fished the Ouse at Biddenham on 11th February but found the going so bad that the winner wasn't actually weighed in but his 4 small bleak were the only fish caught and reckoned to be 2oz!! They then had to push all of their cars out of the car park where the river had flooded previously making it something resembling a swamp!

Despite the frosts, rivers near to flooding and waters icing over there have been good catches made on Luton AC waters this week

SOUTH LAGOON
Simon Heath managed pike of 16lb 2oz and 11lb 8oz along with two zander to 7lb.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
The reservoir continues to produce good carp with junior member Connor having a mid double common.
Filip Dunaj fished Mad Baits Addiction boilies for commons of 21lb, 18lb 4oz and 17lb 2oz, with a small pike also taking a surprise liking to his boilie offering.

Good sized pike have been photographed visiting the margins of the reservoir this week.

GRAND UNION CANAL
The centre of Leighton Buzzard continues to be the place to fish for bags of perch and silvers with junior member Callum landing a 2lb 3oz perch on double pinkie plus skimmers and roach on bread punch despite the very coloured water from all the rain in the week.

February isn't recognised as one of the better fishing months but its been a great week for reports despite the frosty conditions followed with rain and sleet showers and even some snow!

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
The reservoir is fishing really well with Luke Marvin catching some lovely looking mirrors to 24lb plus a solitary common all falling to Thripster Baits.

Craig Clark managed three fish to 21lb 6oz on Hydrabaits TNT pop ups.

Nicholas Goodman landed a 20lb 4oz mirror on Mad Baits Pandemic.
We hear that the mirror known as Donkey Head has been out this week at 32lb to an undisclosed captor.
Currently the best method seems to be fishing a white pop up out towards the middle of the reservoir.

GRAND UNION CANAL
Silviu Stoica lure fished the Grand Union Canal in the centre of Leighton Buzzard catching two good sized perch at 35cm & 36cm along with a smaller perch, a small chub and a pike with all of the fish falling to the same lure.

SOUTH LAGOON
Predator angler Pawel Ceks managed a season best 22lb pike from the South Lagoon

and Wojciech who was fishing with him landed another good pike of 19lb.

COACHING
This weekend our coaching team were helping out at a Taster Session at Foxton on the Grand Union Canal. Saturday was damp and cold which put off the fish and some attendees but reports so far are that Sunday has been much improved despite a hail storm to contend with.

Sadly we had an incident at Beckerings Reservoir this week where one angler decided to use the car park as a toilet leaving his/her deposit for all to see along with discarded tissue. No attempt to clear it away and if we do find out who was responsible there will almost certainly be a ban imposed.
