Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area. Week Ending 28th June 2020

WEDNESDAY KNOCK UP MATCH

The Wednesday Knock Up match this week was at The River Ouse at Wyboston here is Dennis Hunt's report from the day...

"We had a cracking day out today with everyone enjoying themselves. Five fished including Dean Beach a St Neots angler who purchased a day ticket to fish with us.  We had arrived at Wyboston to find the river looking in perfect shape with good colour and nice flow, so expectations were high on what was obviously going to be a hot, bright day.  I personally had a slow start spending a biteless first hour on a feeder before switching to a 6 No5 stick float down the edge fishing hemp which proved to be a successful tactic.  Others either stuck to the feeder or switched between feeder and float throughout the day Dean had a nice chunky Bream, Naula Grey suffered with pike and Barry Roper hooked a huge fish that bent his rod double before eventually breaking him"

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area. Week Ending 14th June 2020

CLUB NEWS
Hardworking Lavendon Bailiffs Bob and Roger were out strimming and preparing the swims on the upstream section of Lavendon Mill ready for the 16th June.

NORTH HOUSE LAKE
Following a visit and tests from Kye the EA Officer this morning and the confirmed case of Blue Green Algae, we are acting on his best advice and will be closing North House for a week to allow things to recover. Not ideal at this busy time but a lake with no fish will be useless.  We have been told that fish are likely to be very stressed and anglers are unlikely to catch, and if they do, fish that are stressed are open to infection if damaged. They have suggested we close the lake for a week and assess on a weekly basis from then on. This will reduce nutrient input from anglers, (bait), and reduce the chances of further stressing fish if captured.  We will be monitoring the oxygen levels on a daily basis as advised by the EA and have plans in place should an oxygen crash occur and fish become distressed.

The club has also replaced its aging DO meter with a brand new OxyGuard Handy Polaris which isn't cheap but an essential piece of kit for any fishery and will allow us to carefully monitor the dissolved oxygen levels during hot weather to ensure the wellbeing of our fish
EATON FORD
The Eaton Ford Team Glen Daniels and Stewart Thornton and also new member David Freeman, have been hard at work preparing the river and backwater ready for June 16th. They have cleared the swims on the main river and the backwater.
