Slipe Lane Pits
Following the previous stocking of 500 6" to 8" Roach into the Boot Pit at Slipe Lane Pits at the beginning of February, a second stocking of small Tench and Carp took place today. This stocking was carried out directly by the Turnford Consortium (which Luton Angling Club is part of) The stockings are part of their ongoing improvement program.

Grand Union Canal
A few lovely spring-like days and some warmer nights prompted Dennis Hunt and Roger Baker to have an impromptu session on the Canal at Town South today (Saturday), and both had a great day.
The morning was fine and warm the temperature rose to 17C in the afternoon. The Canal had a steady flow until midday, caused by CRT running off water into the Ouzel, and was holding good colour, but despite the warmer temperatures, it was still very cold.
Both Dennis and Roger had decided on a minimal tackle approach using Carbon whips using punch over liquidised bread as bait. Dennis, using his old Browning 3Metre Speed stick, had decided to try a float given to him by Wednesday group member and master float maker Tony (Sweeties) Hickmott.
After feeding a couple of walnut sized balls of liquidised bread and with 7mm punch on the hook the float buried and a roach came to hand, followed by another and then a run of very decent skimmer bream. The fish continued to come throughout the session and Dennis ended with 8 Skimmers, a couple of big Hybrids, a Chub of around a pound and some nice stamp roach and a gudgeon, ending up with an estimated 15lb+, not a bad day on 50p's worth of bait

Match Report 5th March 2025 Yasis at How End
This week we couldn’t fish Lavendon because of the car park conditions and the high river levels, so we had to hastily rearrange, and our thanks are due to Phil Stone at How End for making Yasi's available to us at short notice.
The weather was so different to a week ago, we didn’t all get wet! although we did have a cold night on Tuesday.
We were met at How End with a lovely blue sky with little wind and warm temperatures rising to 15C during the day, it was great to feel the warm sun.
We did our swim draw and headed for the swims to set up, and for some the sun directly in our eyes proved too bright! Due to the high pressure, cold night and clear sky. With the lakes still very cold but holding good colour it was always going to be a challenging day.
Or winner this week was Andy Francome, who fed groundbait and maggot to his right and left down the edge and over to island to take Carp and silvers for 25lb 5oz.
Sean Leatherland ran Andy a close second with 21lb 5oz, taking three small Carp however most of the weight came from small Chub. Sean took his fish at 12.5 metres fishing into a far bank bay, using double red maggot, He fed maggot via a catapult when the wind and the venues ducks allowed!
Dave Ridley came third with 12lb 3oz, and Colin Holmes came in fourth.
Colin started off fishing his pole at 2+ 2 and had a few bites, but then went it all went quiet, so he changed to a rod and line float approach and cast to island. He caught straight away but these were only small fish, so he went back to his pole close in, and had a few more fish it then went quiet again. Colin repeated this process all day to keep his fish coming. He caught all his fish on double red maggots and ended with 10lb 5oz.
Our thanks are due to Phil Stone for the venue and all those who helped run the match by doing the admin, and Tracey who helped with the weigh in.

Match Report 26th February 2025 GUC The Globe Pairs
What a difference a day makes! Tuesday had been a lovely day, but the forecast for Wednesday wasn’t that great, however we were hopeful that the day wouldn’t be as bad as forecast. As we left home hopes were high as it was a nice bright morning.
We had arranged parking with the Pub and as we met in the car park to do our peg draw light rain began to fall. By the time we got to the pegs and set up for the off the rain had increased in intensity and began to be very heavy, and it continued for the next 3 hours, the forecast had been correct after all!
The Canal had the colour of coffee, but the water temperature was recorded as 8C and had risen by 3C since we last fished it.
This week, we had a drawn pairs match, with 11 pairs drawn in advance and a random peg draw on the day. We had pegged an 11 angler section either side of the Globe giving us two sections with the winning team to be decided on points. In event of a points draw the place is decided on weight. Section A towards Leighton fished reasonably well but the section towards Three Locks was unfortunately not as good.
Individual winner in the day was Dave Whillock on section A with a nice net of bream weighing 11lb 10oz.
Second on A was Steve Lathwell who I fished pinkie over ground bait with a splash of natural bream liquid and a little bit of chopped worm, taking small blade skimmers for most of the day to finish with 6lb 10oz. Third placed was Syd Wilson who managed 6lb 3oz.
Pete Mills fed liquidised bread and fished punch for the first hour at 4m for a ‘pair of eyes’, and then switched to pinkie and caught a few small roach and skimmers. The best was 12oz in a 30minute period on the same line and then it dried up as the rain stopped at midday. He went over at 13m for the last hour and picked up odd small skimmers.
Section B was a grueller won by Sean Leatherland. Sean managed a few small fish on pinkie on a line at 2.5 Mtrs and then went across to 11Mtrs feeding crumb and fishing pinkie, and on this line had some better roach and a bonus 1lb Skimmer.
Second on B was Dudley Frankland with 0lb 14 1/2 oz followed by Chris Howard with 0lb 14oz
Top 3 Pairs were
1st Steve Lathwell and Dave Ridley
2nd Sean Leatherland & Peter Mills
3rd Terry Vickers & Dave Abbot
4th Simon Faukes & Dudley Frankland
Special mention should be made of Les Burton who is undergoing an aggressive hospital treatment at the moment and desperately wanted to get out and fish with us this week. Les didn’t fish the pairs, and we gave him a special ‘Short Walk’ draw nearest the pub where he weighed in 6lb 8oz, very well done Les, and best wishes for a speedy recovery
After the match we retired to the Globe and while packing our tackle in our cars we noticed water rising and flooding the lower end of the car park due to the rapidly rising River Ouzel. We moved cars to the higher level parking, however while drinking a pint we were told that the top of the car park was in danger of flooding as well, so we finished our drinks and left in rather a hurry.
Our thanks are due to The Globe for allowing us to park, and all those who helped run the match by pegging and doing the admin, and Tracey and Roger Baker who came to help with the weigh in.
