CRT Regional Celebration Match Three Locks Saturday 15th July.
Well, what a fantastic day on the bank! Today ( Saturday 15th July)  was the day of our Regional CRT Celebration Match at Three Locks, for which many of our young anglers had spent a lot of time preparing.

After a dreadful weather forecast, which included thunder, heavy rain, and very high winds which we believe put some competitors off attending, (we had 20 anglers booked and only 13 came) we only had about 30 minutes of heavier rain early on, and the really strong winds failed to materialise. The Canal at Three Locks is quite sheltered, and for the most part the wind didn’t trouble the young competitors. Those who didn’t turn up missed a fantastic day.

We had 6 young cadets, 6 Juniors and a Youth fishing, all with differing levels of experience. For some,it was their first match, and others had competed before,we are pleased to say everyone caught.

Winner of the Cadets was Luton’s Leo Levesque with 4lb 9oz, closely followed by another Luton Cadet Dylan Carr, who was defending his title from last year, and weighed 3lb 7oz. Third was Faris Edwards with 1lb 6oz.

The Junior honours went to Maja Davidson of Tring Anglers with 5lb 8oz, with Luton’s Kaden Dixon second with 4lb 3oz. Third was Alfie Hawkes of Luton with 3lb 2oz. Special mention must be made of Luton’s Daniel Carr, who while finishing last in the Junior section hooked and lost two big fish during the match, one on his pole and the other on his tip rod, better luck next time Daniel!

We had John Ellis of CRT doing Facebook Live broadcasts which can be viewed on the CRT Angling Facebook page and Ian Orbell who organised last weeks benefit match, presented the Junior trophies.

Well done to all those who took part, especially those who framed, and thanks to everyone who supported us in running the event today.

Wednesday Match Report 12th March River Ouse Eaton Ford
10 anglers turned out at Eaton Ford on Wednesday to fish the first river match since the opening of the river season, and they found the venue to be in superb order, it was a fine day with the river looking in good condition if a little clear, but with reasonable flow. Bait thrown into the water could be seen sinking for about 4 feet before it disappeared. The water temperature was 20 degrees.

We had a very blustery downstream wind promising to be a problem, which increased in strength throughout the match making proper presentation difficult. Many anglers struggled to detect bites in the wind and many maggot skins were retrieved without anglers being aware of the cause!! Not surprisingly, most of us found quality fish hard to come by and many low weights were recorded.

Barry Roper managed to find some chub to record the winning weight, followed by Andy Frankum in second place and Steve Lathwell third. However, the weights were very disappointing this week due to the challenging conditions.

Lavendon Upstream Car Park 
The club is pleased to announce the opening of our new car park for the Lavendon upstream section of River Ouse, A fantastic stretch of River that has in the past produced some excellent specimen fish but has been overlooked by many anglers due to lack of secure poor access and lack of parking. Our new car park is off road, fenced and behind locked gates no more struggling through the kissing gate with your tackle as a new 5ft pedestrian gate provides access from the car park to the field and then a short walk down to the River. Our thanks go to the landowner for kindly allowing us to use the land and the volunteers that helped us construct it.

We would really like to see some more catch reports and pictures from our River sections so please give them a try and send in your catch reports!

We had a test deployment of our water pump at Beckerings this evening in order for us to test the setup and know how to deploy it quickly and easily at any of our venues in an emergency oxygen crash situation. We've put together a step by step guide and will make it available to all our bailiffs and committee so anyone can now deploy the equipment easily in the event of an issue at any of our waters. #beprepared

Committee and Officers Match 9th July - River Ouse Wyboston

Match Secretary Dennis Hunt managed to retain the Chairman's Shield in the Committee, officer's and volunteers match fished on the River at Wyboston today,

He had 64 Roach on hemp 4ft down in 15 ft water for the win, he weighed in 6lb 15oz, they didn't seem to want tares, as he only had a couple on those. He had a very athletic looking decent size pike leaping out of the water trying to snaffle the roach as he brought them in, it actually managed to take one and hooked itself, and that was good fun on a pole for about or 5 or 6 minutes until a size 18 hook straightened.

Dennis did rather well as the rest of the weights from the six other anglers were much lower between 2 and 3lb, my own net of fish was 2lb 2oz of mainly small Perch. I think I'd have done better if I'd had more lobworms as they didn't seem interested in the maggots, and I only had a few worms with me.

Match Report 5th July 2023 - Grand Union Canal - The Globe.

16 anglers turned out to fish at The Globe stretch of the GUC at Leighton Buzzard this week. The weather was overcast at the start but brightened up to give some nice sunshine from midday, though accompanied by a stiff breeze. The canal carried a little extra colour following the previous day's rain but generally, the mood was optimistic.

There were quite a few boats moored on the pound, which meant that the angler who drew the higher number pegs had a somewhat lengthy walk. At the start of the match, all seemed to go well with most reporting steady catches of fish in the first hour. However, heavy boat traffic ensued throughout the remainder of the match, which made things more difficult as baiting up was usually quickly nullified by passing boats. Some anglers even experienced being double boated by craft passing through their swims.

From the weights it appeared that the low numbered and high numbered pegs at either end were most favourable this week with the middle pegs returning some very low weights - so much so that some anglers did not bother to weigh in.

New Junior Club Record for Roach
Many of our club records have definitely been beaten over the years however have not been officially claimed, Our Roach record has stood at 1lb 8oz since our 1968/69 membership year. Junior member Kenzie Lynch caught one at 1lb 10oz from Beckerings recently and submitted a record claim following the correct precess in his membership book (page 44). Following verification of the accuracy of the scales used to weigh the fish we are pleased to announce that Kenzie is a new Junior club record holder for a Roach.

Junes photo prize goes to Damon Smith, for the picture of his Common Carp. All catch photos sent in are entered automatically so make sure you send in your catch reports and photos and you could win £25.00.

Beckerings Reservoir
Edgaras Balaika had wonderful session on his first time at Beckerings, 20h from 3pm Friday till 11am Saturday. He had a total of 14 carp ranging from 12lb to 26lb which included a double take. He also also had 2 catfish weighing 37lb & 40lb

James Del MCardle did a short 3 hour session in the blistering heat at Beckerings and managed 2 off the top 21lb 2oz and 19lb 6oz then the swan cleared him out! The 21 had a nasty bit of historic tail damage, which was carefully treated before the fish was put back.

Nick Lynch did Wednesday night at Beckerings and had 5 carp and a handful of 6-7lb bream. Catches included a fish matching his PB and then one bigger beating his PB.
Weights were 20lb 2oz,17lb 1oz, 27lb 3oz, 18lb 10oz & 21lb 14oz.

Piotr Pudlo had some decent Bream from Beckerings this week, one of which was 9lb 14oz

LAVENDON MILL NEW CAR PARK OPENING SOON!
On Sunday work started on a new members car park for Lavendon Mill Upstream. This will provide a large secure gated and fenced car park for the upstream section of the river it will provide easier access to the river via a 5ft pedestrian gate into the field, so no more struggling to get tackle through the kissing gate from the layby. We hope to open this car park for club members in the next few weeks, so watch this space. A couple more work parties will be needed to complete the fencing and lay grass reinforcement matting before we can open it. Thanks to all the volunteers that assisted us with the work

Match Report 28th June Lakeside bottom lake, Cublington.
14 anglers from the Wednesday met in the car park at Lakeside this week on an overcast, warm, and very muggy morning.

We had arranged to fish the bottom lake which is approx four acres at this very picturesque fishery, with depths between four and seventeen feet. After drawing our pegs, we set off along the bank to find our swims and set up. 

The venue had good colour, and on arrival we could see fish bubbling. The wind was fitful during the day, at times blowing quite strongly down the lake and at others falling away to a flat calm. The overcast got very dark several times, threatening a heavy storm, which fortunately didn’t materialise.

We were all hopeful of a good day on this fishery which is known to contain numbers of nice tench, but the change in weather conditions and a shift in the wind direction seemed to depress the weights on the day, the fishing being patchy and some of us unfortunately recording a DNW. However, we all very much enjoyed the day and agreed we will return on another occasion.
Top dog this week was Steve Lathwell, who opted to fish a tip rod, with most his fish coming at about 25 metres, He was fishing caster and feeding 6mm pellet over the top. When this line slowed, he switched to fishing a pole, at about 10 metres again using caster to end with a nice net of fish for 21lb 14oz.

Adrian Smith caught three bream and a couple of small roach on the pole at 10m fishing dead depth in about 9 to 10ft of water.  The first two were on double maggot, a combination of red and bronze.  His largest bream was taken on double caster. He was feeding groundbait and loose feed to keep fish interested. He then swapped lines and went under a near bank tree and caught a large roach and a lovely chub under the on double caster where he had been regularly feeding maggots, ending with 12lb 2oz for second place.

Third this week with 11lb 2oz was Andy Frankum who feed micro pellet at 15m with ground bait and corn to take 3 bream and some silvers on caster and pellets, weighing 11lb
Chris Howard changed to a pinkie rig at the end and had a very angry Tench it was the best Tench of the day and it led him a merry dance on light gear.
