Paul Presland - Beckerings
Damien Fitzpatrick had a great session midweek, landing 10 fish in total over 2 short nights landing 5 fish each night. On Wednesday night he fished peg 14 and had fish up to 20lb and on Thursday night fished peg 3 with fish up to 30lb and the highlight of his session was catching his target fish "The Half Lin" weighing 30lb 2oz which sets a new PB. He also landed another big mirror at 28lb 11oz. All the fish were caught on a mix of forbidden fruit and witch doctor from voodoo baits
Carlo Borromeo fished the reservoir on the 24th April, It was a freezing night but the fish were still having it - he had a 25.8lb Mirror and then a 24.6lb Scaley - the fish were caught on Madbaits Nutz.

Anthony O'Brien caught a mirror from Peg 13 it was just over 18lb.He fished to the right of the swim about 20 yards out. He used a mix of mainline cell and baitworks atlantic heat boilies put out with a catapult and used a yellow pineapple pop up on a spinner rig.

Wednesday Match Group - Weekly report
22nd April 2026 – How End
This week we were to fish Yasis’ at How End but due to the numbers wishing to fish which were too large for this lake we spoke to the fishery, and they agreed to let us spread the match over the two lakes with 10 anglers on Danis’ and 10 on Yasis’. The draw for which lake people were fishing was done in advance, and the peg draw done as we arrived.
For once the weather was kind, and Wednesday was a warm spring day with blue sky, light cloud and a steady breeze. The lakes looked great with good colour and water temperature was measured at 12C.
Before the off Mark Sessions while setting up had a take on a bare hook, while checking the shotting on his rig, and his top kit took off across to the island, then traversed up and down, but despite trying to retrieve it by casting a feeder over it, it eventually sank, and was lost, a very expensive start to the day.
During the afternoon those on Yasis’ had an impressive aerial display from a huge Red Kite, very low over the surface, which took a dead fish and Ray managed a couple of Pictures.
First on Danis’ was Bart Bonito, who up until 12.30 only had 1 skimmer. He was trying to target the carp and was surprised to get no bites on the method feeder. He fed an inside line from the start with pellets and switched to this with a hard pellet on the hook. After the change he had his first carp at 1pm. Bart said he had to wait for bites and lost 5 carp due to not being able to get more pole sections on in time. Bart ended with 35lb 6oz.
Despite the early disaster Mark Sessions took 2nd on Danis’ fishing his pole short, with red maggot as hookbait on a size 16 hook at 12 to 14 inches deep. Mark caught mainly ide with 1 carp just over 5lb saying he missed what felt like 100 bites as they were so quick, and said he had great fun. Mark ended with a very creditable 33lb.
Third was taken by Simon Faulkes who drew a peg with wind blowing straight at him which made presentation and accurate feeding very hard, so he fished down the edge for a bag of mainly skimmers taken on red maggot to end with 23lb 5oz.
First place on Yasis’ was taken by Graham Stringer who found the ide in feeding mood. Graham started off at a top kit plus 2 with a bobber float, fishing 2 feet deep with a banded red maggot on the hook and feeding about 12 to 20 maggots every put in. He also fed swims on the near and far edges and gave both a try after about 3 hours. He found nothing on the nearside swim, but on the far side he was getting ide, but as these were a much smaller stamp than in the middle after an hour he went back on the bobber and ended with some good stamp ide right up to the end of the match, finishing with 50lb.
Second on this lake was Sean Leatherland with 41lb 4oz. Sean said he had a few small fish at 6 metres and some more at 13 metres against the island but with a switch to fishing short down the edge he started to catch carp and barbel using sweetcorn and double red maggot.
Colin Kidd finished third with 40lb 4oz, Colin fished his pole at top 2+2 sections using maggots, later switching to casters, to end with 28lb odd silvers, and 2 carp caught in the margin saying he found it too windy to fish over to the island.
Pictures this week had to be taken in fishery‑provided equipment as no personal weigh nets, keepnets, landing nets or unhooking mats are allowed on site for biosecurity reasons.
Many thanks again to the team at How End for being so helpful, and all who did the admin and weighed the sections, again a real team effort.

Liam Newton had a superb 25lb mirror from Beckerings on Saturday morning.

North House Lake
Richard Boulter turned up to a proper blustery last Saturday afternoon at North House, he took a slow lap of the lake to look for any carp activity, but with not much showing at all, he dropped into Peg 4 for the session. A lead about revealed nothing but blanket weed, so it was a day for keeping things simple: solid bags on a gentle decline at 6.5 wraps, with little-and-often mixed boilies and pellets. It worked a treat as he managed to slip the net under a lovely 22.4lb common, which absolutely made the day. He also met some cracking people on the bank, especially the grandad‑and‑grandson duo he's bumped into a few times now and it's always great to see familiar faces enjoying the place.
Richard Boulter - North House Lake
Harry Albone had a Common last weekend it was 13lb 3oz.
Harry Albone - North House Lake
Sam Rose Sent in a report from a session a few weeks back which was fished during Storm Dave the potential for bad weather conditions did not dissuade her and her partner from having a go. She had this 19.54lb common which caught from peg 15.The fish was caught around 08.30pm. An underarm chuck to the right by an overhanging tree, using a few handfuls of manilla sticky baits boilies and a manilla boilie as the hook bait. The advice from their friend Wayne to come close in at night for the patrolling margin carp worked a charm.

Mark North enjoyable few hours on the Lagoon on Tuesday. Fishing an afternoon session from 2pm–6.30pm he put together a cracking 14lb net of Roach. All were taken on the 6m whip, with hemp proving irresistible from start to finish.
Mark North - South Lagoon
Mark North - South Lagoon
Also on the Roach on Tuesday was Nobby Clarke he also had an enjoyable afternoon and early evening session packing up at 6.30pm. He had 8.5 lb in total with hemp and wheat hook baits proving successful. He was then back on the lake on Thursday after the Roach again. He started fishing at just after 10am but could not buy a bite until after 2 pm, even when the bites started he didn’t get many ending up with just 4lb 13oz in total when he packed up at 6:30pm. He commented that during the past week or so South Lagoon has fished very well using wheat and hemp, but today they were not interested in either and all he could get bites on was Tares , It's a crazy place sometimes!

Wednesday Match Group - Beckerings Reservoir 15th April 2026
We were all looking forward to our last Beckerings trip of the season for 2025/26 this week.
However, we were slightly apprehensive when we met having seen the weather forecast, which said there was a high chance of heavy showers and even thunderstorms in the afternoon. As we met for our peg draw there was slight drizzle in the air and a moderate breeze, but the drizzle soon cleared and apart from a couple of sharp showers we weren’t bothered by rain during the day.
The wind however was another matter. While starting off gently, the wind increased by at least one mile an hour every hour we fished, and the reservoir ended up with significant waves on the surface in the afternoon. For those on the bank facing the wind, conditions became increasingly challenging as the day progressed.
The water had decent colour, and the temperature was measured at 10C.
Simon Faulkes decided to fish two feeder lines, one at 35m and the other at 45m. Simon put seven full bait feeders in on each line loaded with groundbait, dead reds and micro pellets, and started on 35 metres, taking one good bream and a small skimmer in the first hour, and had a couple of line bites which came to nothing. He changed to the longer feeder line but didn’t contact fish in the next 90 minutes, so he decided to change tactics to the waggler line. He had been feeding this waggler line from off and the change produced a steady run of small roach until the end of the match. Simon finished with 11lb 14oz to take first place.
Pete Smith took second catching two bream and some skimmers. Pete used an open‑end feeder with groundbait, maggot and chopped worm. Pete, using a 14 hook, kept changing his hookbait from triple red maggot to worm, ending with 8lb 1oz.
Third was Dave Ridley who also decided to start on the tip, putting out six bait‑up feeders just short of the middle. While this settled down, he fished a waggler with red maggot & pinkie and started catching roach straight away. Rather than change away from a line where he was catching fish, Dave continued this approach throughout, catching roach steadily all the way until the end of the match, his largest roach weighing 1lb 10oz, a beautiful fin‑perfect specimen. Dave ended with 7lb 15oz.
Fourth placed man was Mark Sessions, another angler who opted to fish a waggler float in far‑from‑ideal conditions at three rod lengths out. Mark used double red maggot on a size 16 hook fished over groundbait. His comment was he missed quite a few bites due to the wind but really enjoyed the challenge. He ended up with a mixed bag weighing 7lb 1oz.
Many thanks again to all who did the admin and weighed the sections, again a real team effort on, at times, a very windy day.

Darren Savage caught a lovely Common on Tuesday evening. It looked great in the evening sun.
Darren Savage - Beckerings
Last week after a slow session Kletos said, "There's always next time"...well that statement has certainly proved itself this week as Kletos and his son Nathaniel visited Beckerings and were rewarded with an amazing session.

They managed 4 Carp between them, Nathaniel had two, a Common at 19lb 12oz, which Neil Cox helped us with whilst on his rounds, a Mirror at 17lb 6oz and Kletos managed two Commons 15lb 4oz and 17lb 10oz. They had a couple of Bream around 4lbs too.

To top it off they both had their first ever Catfish, one each, during a mad 40 minute spell just after first light in the morning. Kletos had the first which weighed in at 45lb 7oz, which took about 15 minutes to land.

Then literally 10 minutes later Nathaniel had a great run which resulted in a 20 minute fight with what turned out to be a Catfish weighing 56lb 9oz.

The two Catfish were weighed and witnessed by a nice gentleman named Frank and as such Nathaniel will be putting another Club Record claim in!

He really is on a roll. Both fish are their biggest ever and the latter took some serious team work to get in the net!

South Lagoon
Nobby Clarke had a decent session on Friday at the South Lagoon here's his report
"I found a few decent roach on the whip 9lb 6oz not a big weight by any means but nevertheless very good sport , I had a nice chat with Barry one of the bailiffs which is always a pleasure never a chore .
The roach are quite rough on the flanks so they have either done the deed or getting ready to.
Most fell to wheat with about 5 on hemp. It's defo worth having a few hours on the lake but you have to pick your swim with care. I fished peg 23 on Wednesday and also had a nice bit of sport , today I was in peg 25 which is the first time I’ve been able to get in that swim as its a popular one.

Let's Fish Event - Town South - Grand Union Canal
The club ran it's first CRT ‘Lets Fish’ of 2026 today (Sunday 12th April) It took place on the Grand Union Canal at Town South section in Leighton Buzzard and we managed to deliver 16 taster sessions.
The weather was mixed, warm when the sun shone, and quite chilly at times when the wind blew, it put waves on the canal at some points. We even had a couple of light showers!
Despite the conditions the boys and girls attending really enjoyed their sessions and all caught at least one fish, the majority catching some nice specimens. We had Roach Perch and Bream and even some Gudgeon.
We are very hopeful that we will get some sign up for our Kingfisher program and join us on the bank again soon.
For some reason the boys appeared very shy and didn’t want their pictures taken this week but fortunately the girls didn’t seem to mind at all!

Match Report 8th April 2026 GUC Braggenham Side / Three Locks Upper
Wednesday this week was a beautifully warm spring day, with light winds, one of the warmest of the year so far. We had 20 anglers turning up to fish so had to split the match into two sections using Braggenham side towards Three Locks and Three Locks to Chelmscote bridge.
The canal was holding nice colour, and with the warmer weather we were hopeful of some better catches, but the fish seemed to have other ideas and sport was patchy, perhaps due to fish gathering to spawn. Those fishing above the locks had more consistent sport. There were several boats that passed us during the morning but only a few during the afternoon.
After fishing punch and pinkie down the track without a bite for the first hour and a half, Keith Ward eventually found some Bream, he fed groundbait laced with caster and worm, using worm as bait and after 10 minutes he had his first good bream, followed by a hybrid and then another bream, the swim then died probably due to the amount of boat traffic. Keith weighed in 3 decent fish for 10lb 9oz
Colin McBeth started at 13m over groundbait but had no sign of fish so later in the match he fed with chopped worm and tried down the track and inside again, but again had no bites. He then went across to 14m looking for small fish but still no bites! He then went back to 13m and topped up with a small ball of chopped worm and had a skimmer and nice perch then hooked large bream which took him into a snag and he lost it. Colin had another couple of small fish late on pinkie over groundbait, ending with 2lb 8oz.
Above the Locks Tim Watts went with plan to fish for small Roach on the inside line but this failed to work and he and made mistake of sticking with it too long and with the two anglers to his left getting odd small Skimmers, Tim adapted and went for these instead saying that very different feeding/rigs and patience was needed.
He fished the remainder of match at 11-14 metres, and was well behind but he got some decent Skimmers late on and ended up with 5lb 7oz
Barry Roper took second in section, saying that after a quiet first hour he started to catch small hand sized skimmers at 11 metres on pinkies over groundbait. With an hour to go he was double boated and only had two further fish weighing 3lb 11oz.
Richard Gibbs decided to concentrate on two lines, nearside and right over. He fed punch crumb at 3.5 metres and fished a pinkie. He had a few roach in the first hour and bites tailed off so he went on the waggler to the far side fishing shallow with a 3bb canal waggler, fishing single pinkie to a 22 hook. He had bites straight away and again caught roach and small skimmers until a misplaced cast went in a bush. He continued fishing with the pole over while loose feeding the nearside. By midday things had really slowed up. He took two small perch off the nearside and then stayed on the pole over to take the occasional small fish until the end. Richard said it was the sort of day where you had to continually think about what to do and adapt to get a few bites, so to achieve that he was constantly changing rig depths and shotting patterns which seemed to work. He was still able to take a few small fish in the last hour while those around him were struggling.
Unluckiest Angler yesterday was Dudley Frankland who had a nightmare day! firstly he lost an expensive pole section in the canal, but that was thankfully recovered for him by Bart Bonito. Then later in in the day he got badly snagged on a far bank bush and in pulling to get his gear back the No 3 section snapped leaving part of the No 3 section and his top two snagged in the bush.
Fortunately, the crew of a passing narrowboat ‘The Far Side’ were able to recover the snagged pole sections and return them to much thanks from Dudley and a round of applause from all the anglers.
Many thanks for all who did the admin and weighed the sections, again a real team effort
