Membership Renewals Update
Membership renewals were launched on 1st April, as we have for the last couple of years, all existing Luton Angling Club members are guaranteed a space for the 2024/25 season if they renew before 30th April 2024. On 1st May 2024 any memberships that have not been renewed will be offered to new members on a first come served basis. If you are an existing member and want to renew please do so before 1st May or you could miss out.
Anyone who has renewed already will receive their book and key ready for 1st June and we hope to starts sending them out in the next few weeks. Please be patient as this is a mammoth task for our membership secretary
Prospective new members who have registered their email/mobile number on our waiting/interest list will receive an email and text on 1st May as soon as membership for new members goes on sale. All our membership is first come first served so be quick when you receive the text & email as we expect to sell out quickly!
Beckerings Reservoir
Amer Jawad had another short but good session at Beckerings, 30lb plus of silvers all on the slider in just 3 hours.

Darren Savage had two mirror carp, along with a nice, but greedy 2lb 8oz Roach which he had on double boilie.

Grand Union Canal - Winter League - Ian Orbell

On Sunday I fished the last round of the Luton Angling Club winter league. As much luck as angling ability, I managed to finish first by one point!
First round at White Bridge Leighton Buzzard. Drew a rubbish peg behind the houses. Managed to win my section with a bonus skimmer, and 30 tiny roach for 1lb 5oz.
Second round at Three Locks pub section. Drew picnic site. Picked up odd roach on punch, and squat, but knew I was falling behind at least two. Last 15 minutes put a worm on, and fished tight over. One bite 3lb bream. Up to second.
Third round was back at Three Locks, and drew on the boats. Freezing cold, and fishing was hard. Managed 25 roach for 9oz. Section win, and second in match.
Fourth round was at Globe Pub. Drew a good peg by the trees. Caught on punch at 5 meters first 20 minutes. Then I went to 13 meters, squats over groundbait. Caught roach, and skimmers steadily for two hours. Was also having odd look at 14 meters on worm caster line, and managed a 3lb bream. All lines went dead at 12.30. Couldn’t buy a bite. Fed another punch line at 13 meters, and caught another six roach that gave me just enough to win match, and league with 13lb 1oz.
Really well organized league, and look forward to fishing it again next year.
Been using Bait-Tech groundbait for first time.
Very impressed with Pro Natural Fine Lake Dark. Mixed up nicely, and the roach & skimmers seemed to love it on last round. My go to rig was 0.1 Colmic Frank.
Great little floats that you can shot down to a pimple, but bristles are easy to see.

Let’s Fish Saturday April 6th Town South Leighton Buzzard
Yesterday the Luton Coaching Team delivered our first CRT ‘Lets Fish of the year in Leighton Buzzard. The event was fully booked and very successful with all the slots taken, the only disappointment being the family who had booked the last one-hour slots turned out to be ‘No Shows’ , which was extremely disappointing.
We did however manage to find some welcome shelter behind some of the moored boats, and everyone who came to fish with us caught some fish )including some of the parents that wanted a go) and all of them really enjoyed themselves.
We have had a couple of those who came provide some great feedback and one of them commented "We had such a great time learning some of the basics of fishing. My son is really excited to get started and learn some more"
So we have high hopes they might join our Luton Kingfisher Junior section soon.

Wednesday Match Report 3rd April 24
Grand Union Canal - Three Locks Lower
It was back on the Canal this week on the section below Three Locks. It was a mild morning as we met in the car park, and the day started bright, with a breeze, but there were a couple of rain showers with heavier wind and overcast, before the wind dropped and the day brightened again. However, after yet another night of rain the Canal was a murky brown colour.
Bart Bonito on peg 1 took the honours this week, ending with 13lb 8oz, he opted to fish five lines, two across in the shallow water at 14.5 metres, one with groundbait and pinkies the other chop worm, one at 11.5 metres using groundbait and pinkie with the same at 6m.
He made a slow start on the inside and took six skimmer bream before this line died. Deciding to go across on the worm line he took a bigger skimmer, He rotated lines throughout the day, catching mainly on pinkie, except for the bigger fish which were all caught on worm. The swims were fed sparingly, and Bart only fed ¾ kilo groundbait all day.
Dudley Frankland took second, with 5lb 15oz, fishing three lines, one at 10 o’clock, a chop worm line, one at the bottom of the far shelf with groundbait and pinkies , and another tight over to a boat at 13.5 metres using chop worm & caster. Dudley rotated the lines through the day.
Barry Roper in third caught a few skimmers and roach early on at 4 metres, all on pinkie. He then went out to 11 metres near to the boats and caught a few more before the bites slowed up and he only had two fish in the last three hours ending with 2lb 6oz
Colin McBeth in fourth position started by feeding bread short and groundbait with squatt and caster at bottom of far shelf. Getting no bites no bites on either line. After an hour he topped up far shelf with groundbait and chopped worm and had a small perch. He rotated the three lines for next two hours and picked up a small skimmer and a nice perch at around 1pm but unfortunately took nothing else after that weighing 13oz.
Perhaps the unluckiest man out yesterday was Roger Baker who pegged in a difficult area managed to catch a roach of about 3oz. Roger retrieved his net for the weigh in and the fish had disappeared! When the net was examined, we found a small hole due to recent rodent damage, so the fish had done a Houdini and escaped!
Poor Roger was devastated! Had it not been for this mishap and the estimated weight been correct Roger would have finished about 8th!

Our next Match is on Wednesday 10th April and is at Beckerings. Due to the number of anglers fishing this Wednesday match, the venue will be closed to those not taking part in the match until 5pm on Wednesday and no night bookings will be taken for Tuesday night.
Draw 8.30 at the venue £5-00 optional pools £1.00 Wednesday peg fee, fish 10am till 3pm.
For anyone thinking of joining us for the first time can we ask you message us so we know you are coming before turning up, next week will be extremely popular and we need to ensure we have room as this will allow us to better manage the pegging. You will be asked to produce your Club book at first appearance, so please have it with you.
