Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report 1st January 2017
We would like to start 2017 by wishing all our members and friends a Happy New Year and we hope 2017 brings lots of fish to your landing nets!
Predator Match Series Round 3 Lavendon Mill Upstream
The third round of the predator series was held on Lavendon Mill Upstream on 31st December only four anglers fished and no fish were caught despite the best efforts of the participants, The next round is at North House on 5th February and there are spaces available so let us know if you want to take part entry is £10.00 with all money raised going to Keech Hospice.
The Two that Got Away - Lavendon Mill Downstream
Also at Lavendon on the 31st December was member Andrew Upton who fished the downstream section here is his story
“While fishing a tiny thumb sized cage feeder with liquidised bread and a piece of sliced bread I should have landed one pike who clearly couldn’t resist the lump of bread but dislodged the hook literally at my feet……….it looked like a nice pike easily 80cm long.
Then a move down to second from last swim.......and this grown man could have cried. Two light twitches and them wallop I was into some thing heavy and rocketing for the margin snags, this fish had my 1.25lb rod doubled over and I honestly thought the rod was going to snap.
Did I get to see the fish.....yes and my god what a Chub, if this fish weighed less than 6lb I would be shocked, I cant guess in reality what this fish weighed but its power was incredible, no amount of side strain could stop this angry fish.
It finally beat me by going for the fallen tree snag and again it came to the surface before slipping the barbless hook.I then moved upstream and I never caught but I was happy and just being out in the fresh air was enough for me.
So to those who tell me these sections of the river are not worth the effort........you couldn't be more wrong. Moving water is my thing when it comes to fishing and after spending way too many years away from fishing I am so glad to be back.”
Club Awarded Coaching Grant by Sport England
The Club certainly had a welcome visit from Santa just prior to Christmas as through a lot of hard work in the past few months we have been awarded a Sport England lottery grant of just under £8000.
This money has to be used for the specific purposes laid out in the grant application to train coaches and regenerate the Junior section of the Club recently renamed to the Luton Kingfishers, but it basically provides all the funding we need to provide more angling ‘Taster’ sessions, Cast Courses, run the Kingfishers and fund promotional activities to gain more members.
We currently need to train 6 new Volunteer Level 1 angling coaches, we have 4 selected so a further 2 funded places exist. If you are interested in obtaining the accreditation and qualification please contact us straight away using the contact us page or send us a message on Facebook.
We would then interview you within the next few weeks with a possibility of getting you on a training course in mid February, but applications need to be in to Angling Trust before the end of January.
