Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report - 18th December 2016

 Weekly Report 18th December 2016

Again catch reports are scarce this week. Our venues offer some excellent winter carp, predator and general coarse fishing so its well worth getting out and having a go. If you do get out fishing please let us know how you get on. All our contact details can be found at the bottom of this report. Membership runs until 31st May 2017 so if you join the club now there is still plenty of time left to make use of your membership.

The Environment Agency carried out an assessment survey at Beckerings Reservoir on Monday to ascertain the population of Silver fish present in the reservoir. They carried out three nettings on different areas of the lake. This work was done at no cost to the club and is paid for by your rod licence. Our thanks go out to Alex Malcolm and the rest of the team from the Environment Agency for their hard work.

Among the fish netted were some sizeable Roach Bream and Perch as well as large numbers of smaller fish. A lot of the carp managed to avoid the nets however we did see a number of 20lb+ fish in lovely condition also in the net was a Ghost Carp which we haven't seen caught very often. There are a few pictures of the netting below and more can be found in the Photo Gallery on the website Click here to open the Gallery in a New Window. The overall opinion of the Environment Agency is that there is a healthy population of Roach, Bream and Perch in the lake and they commented on the size of the Roach in particular. All fish netted were safely returned to the reservoir

On Sunday 18th December the second round of the 2016 predator match series took place on Kempston Lake, Last year there was a number of pike caught so we had high hopes for this round. Pike fishing is not usually allowed on the lake.

The match started at 8.30 on a very misty morning with very little wind, first into a fish was Dave Brosnan an hour into the match landing a Pike of 4lb 3oz, a slow few hours passed with no more fish caught until 13:15hrs when Wojciech Dunaj landed a small Pike of 2lb 5oz which was caught on a lure, half hour later Club Chairman Dennis Hunt got off the starting blocks with a small jack pike of 1lb 2oz then Wojciech Dunaj landed another small pike of 2lb 1oz putting him in the lead by a mere 3oz. I was on my way round the lake to break the bad news to Dave Brosnan with 20 minutes left of the match but as I approached I could see a bend in his rod and just as I arrived at his peg he landed a double figure pike weighing in at 13lb 6oz securing his victory with a total weight of 17lb 9oz.

Final Results

1st Place - Dave Brosnan 2 pike weighing a total of 17lb 9oz

2nd Place - Wojciech Dunaj 2 pike weighing a total of 4lb 6oz

3rd Place - Dennis Hunt 1 Pike weighing 1lb 2oz

All proceeds from the entry fees are being donated to Keech Hospice and our thanks go also to lake owner Keith for supplying us with the baits with all the proceeds from these also donated to Keech. The 3rd round is on New Years Day at Lavendon Mill and we have plenty of spaces so if you want to enter please get in touch.

Finally Luton Angling Club wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
