Beckerings Reservoir continues to fish well for the carp with members reporting some great sessions recently.

On Saturday Luton hosted the second and last of our Daiwa sponsored ‘Lets Fish’ Regional Celebration events this year at Three Locks. This was the final weekend before the National Celebration in Shropshire next week, when nearly 500 young anglers will fish the Shropshire Union around Market Drayton, to try and win among all the other prizes the most coveted one of all, this year’s Guru sponsored Gudgeon Mug.
We had 21 young anglers taking part in the Cadet, Junior and Youth categories, some of the youngsters travelled long distances to compete. The weather was kind, a warm autumn day with the sun shining. The GUC had good colour, and the boats that passed slowed down and kept to the middle of the track. The Canal fished very well, and our boys and girls enjoyed themselves and we had no dry nets. Our Luton anglers fishing in the Cadet and Junior categories acquitted themselves very well, great effort everyone.
In the Cadets, who fish for 3 hours first place went to Leo Sherwood- Ince of Northampton Nene with a weight of 1 Kilo 430 Grams, while Luton’s highest place was Molly Gregory, who came 4th overall with a weight of 540 Grams.
In the Juniors section, who fished for 4 hours, Luton’s Daniel Carr took 1st place with 2Kilo 910 grams taking a good mixed bag which included an extremely nice Perch. Second was taken by another Luton angler, Daniel Murphy Snape who weighed in 1Kilo 780 grams which included a small Carp which he did extremely well to land. We also had Haroon Khan in 7th, Alex Ropke in 9th and Dylan Carr in 11th places.
In the team event Luton took 1st place in the Juniors, with Wellingborough second and Northampton Nene third. Many of those fishing will have fished again on Sunday when the final league and individual places for the Eastern Region will be decided.
All who came enjoyed the event, received their trophies in the presentations in the car park and picked from the many prizes that had been generously donated to the Club and those donated by Daiwa UK A big thank you to CRT and especially John Ellis who attended the match, all the Luton Coaches and others who turned out to assist in the running of the event by doing the admin, pegging the venue, helping those competing and assisting with the weigh in and prizegiving afterwards.
Without the full team effort we couldn’t deliver this sort of event, and some of those assisting today started off in our Junior ranks a few years ago and are now looking to take their own coaching qualifications.
Daniel Carr's own report from the regional Celebration
Daniel Carr had a win at the regional celebration at Three Locks on Saturday. He set up two lines today one 3meters out on the whip feeding squat and groundbait and the other on the edge of a tree on the far bank.
He fished on the whip for the first hour and half and was just catching skimmers, perch and roach he occasionally topped up with groundbait until it slowed.
After it slowed he moved over to the far bank and was catching little roach and the occasional skimmer for another hour and a half but unfortunately for the last hour it slowed and he kept having to rotate lines to catch fish he was able to catch a nice perch about 2 and a half pounds after getting it free from a snag from under a tree.
He ended the match with 2kilos 910 for the win and twenty points to the regional table
Both anglers had a great start fishing pinkies over groundbait at around 4 Metres, with fish coming from this line from the off until a boat messed it up.
Sean then went to 10.5 Metres, a line that he had fed from the start and continued to catch on red maggot until the end of the match.
Dennis, who ended with 70 fish in the net was catching Roach and some Perch over small nuggets of groundbait with some loose fed hemp on his 4 Metre line. He later switched to fishing big red maggot which he found more effective on this line after trying a line at 11 Metres which didn’t produce much.
Both anglers really enjoyed the day out, but were plagued the whole time by Red Signal Crayfish ending with 5 each, which were duly despatched as landed.
Dennis ended with 5lb 8oz and Sean ended with 11lb 7oz.
Sean now goes forward to the final against Pete Mills to decide this year’s Pick and Choose champion. Good luck to both of them!

Wednesday Match Result - Biddenham River Ouse
With the weather finally cooling, and autumn quickly approaching, and with some much needed light rain forecast we had 19 anglers turn out to fish at Biddenham this week.
The drizzle was falling as we met for the draw on what was quite a warm humid morning, and many not thinking the rain was going to come to much left their waterproofs in the cars, a decision many were to regret later on when we had some heavier showers.
After doing the admin and our swim draw by the river at peg 6, we set of to our swims with high hopes of a good day and plenty of fish. The river had reasonable colour and a slight flow which did pick up slightly during the match. The resident flock of parakeets broke the peaceful silence flying around chattering noisily as we set up.
Sean Leatherland was back on form this week, catching fish on his pole at 10 Metres from Peg 20, fishing single red maggot over groundbait. Sean caught a net consisting of mostly of Roach and Dace with a few bonus skimmers thrown in and took 1st place with 10lb 2oz.
Second Man Dave Ridley fished Peg 2 in the woods. Dave fished his swim shallow at 4m with a whip for the first hour and catching Bleak & Chublets. After this he had a change of tactics and fed the swim heavily with groundbait, pinkies, red maggots & hemp, switching to rod and line using a float but still fishing the same line as before but only 3m deep. He stated catching Roach and Perch. Dave found it best to alternate tactics switching back to the whip for short periods, whenever the roach & perch disappeared, to end with 8lb 7oz.
Third place man Richard Gibbs was trying to combat allegations from his fellow piscators that he only adopts a 'Bleak Bashing' tactic when fishing rivers, so he set up a 4grm flat float using his pole fished at 11.5 metres. His swim (3) was around 10ft deep, and he fed it heavily at the start with 5 large balls of river groundbait. Using caster as hookbait he caught roach steadily from the start for the duration of the match, topping up with groundbait when bites slowed. His catch was all Roach, which included some decent netters, apart from a solitary skimmer, two bleak and two perch. Richard weighed in a creditable 5lb 12oz.
The fourth place was taken by Simon Foulkes who fished his pole at 11m to take mainly roach and dace on hemp and elderberry, an old fashioned but often when in season a deadly bait picked from the riverside bushes before the match started with a few Perch later on maggot to weigh 4lb 10oz.
Commiserations to Tony Hickmott who lost a very large fish early on, which took his entire rig halfway across the river before he parted company with his unseen river monster! Tony was particularly upset about losing one of his superb homemade floats on its first outing!
We were also quite intrigued to see the large scorch marks and burning visible on the trunk of a tree by Peg 5, which looks like it’s been subjected to a recent lightning strike.
