Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 1st October 2017

NORTH HOUSE LAKE STOCKING & THE WYBOSTON COMPLEX TRACK UPDATE

By popular demand well known Priory Fishery Devon will be stocking North House Lake with 20x C3 carp on Thursday 5th October at around 1pm. C3 carp are 3 seasons old and will be 4-6lb in weight. Priory Fishery carp are well known for their fast growth and they have supplied C3 fish into other waters that now exceed 50lb. Please look after these fish as they are the future of the lake. North House will remain open and any member is welcome to attend although we cannot guarantee the exact time of arrival at present 1pm is the best estimate.
The Wyboston Complex track has taken considerably longer to sort out than we initially hoped but progress is being made so thanks for your continued patience and we really hope to have some positive long overdue news soon.

EATON FORD GATE

Unfortunately in the Spring of this year the gate at the club owned Eaton Ford fishery was completely destroyed by persons wanting to steal from the allotment sheds.

It has taken some months to source another gate and all the necessary material and manpower.
Unfortunately the first attempt Plan A found the gate did not sit correctly but today's Plan 'B' turned out to be successful and we received the following report from Fisheries Manager David Farmer -
'After a not so easy removal of the post from Plan A, digging took priority after some time with puffing, panting and very near collapse (at this juncture we agreed if anyone pegged it they'd get buried in the hole) resulted in a hole of approx three foot round and almost the same depth. Peering down I had trepidation of what it would take to fill this cavity.
Next 5 foot steel poles got rammed down through the bottom of the hole. Tops of these poles finished up well below ground level so the bottoms must be getting on to 6 foot down. A couple of three & half footers were added and rammed in.
Gate post now positioned with heavy duty angle iron crisis crossing Postcrete & water covered the bottom of the hole. Adding lumps of old concrete, postcrete, water & tamping about eventually it filled rising to just below ground level and looking most satisfactory.
By my estimate dry weight of the fill must be over a quarter of a ton.
At this stage while the postcrete set we retired for refreshments ( to replenish some of the tremendous energy used ) Nearly an hour later the gate was hung, set up and showed all the signs of a good solid job.
Disposable items used for this one post :-
6 X 20kg bags of Postcrete, approx 3 hundred weight of concrete lumps, gallons of water, steel tube, angle, 14 rashers of bacon, 5 eggs, dozen bread rolls and over a gallon of tea the result being a job well done.
Guarantee you may well ask well I can't guarantee it will last forever but I can guarantee it'll last longer than Plan 'A' and if anyone has to remove it at some time it ain't going to be easy.
My thanks to the valiant volunteers David M, Neville, Bob & Connor. Oh and I helped'
