Wednesday Match 19th May 2021
Match Report 19th May
On Wednesday this week 12 anglers met at South Lagoon. We were pleased to welcome a couple newcomers, David and Ian Orbell joining us for the first time. The match was a generally slow affair with most struggling for bites on what appeared to be a perfect day, anglers fishing a variety of methods, Pole, Waggler and Feeder all being used. Most baits were tried, including maggot, pinkie, caster and chopped worm to secure a bite. From the general condition of the bream caught it was obvious the fish had only just completed spawning, which may be the reason sport was so slow and the weights disappointing. Ian Orbell managed some roach and skimmers and selection of small fish for first place, Dennis Hunt took second with three skimmers and some roach while the reliable Nuala Gray was third with a skimmer and bits, beating husband John by 2oz.
initially the weather was bright and warm with anglers enjoying the sunshine, with a gentle South Westerly wind, although the usual Wednesday rain shower arrived at midday. The air temperature was 16C and the water temperature 15C
John Gray accidentally fell in while packing up at the end of the match, he managed to climb out OK but unfortunately lost his glasses in the process and had a very damp drive home. Perhaps a timely reminder to us all to take care on the banks especially in muddy conditions.
Results
1st Ian Orbell 5lb 5oz
2nd Dennis Hunt 2lb 13oz
3rd Nuala Gray 1lb 12oz
4th John Gray 1lb 10oz
5th (Joint) Ash Bunnage & Roger Baker 1lb 7oz
Match Report - Grand Union Canal 16/5/2021
Nine anglers from Hanwell Prince of Wales club fished with mixed results at Section 13 (Ivinghoe) on Sunday, on a day of mixed weather which was very windy at times. Five of the anglers fished the first 150-300 yards opposite the boats, which looked great but only produced one small perch.

The 3rd place angler who had one bream weighing 2lb 7oz fished near the gate and the other 3 fished the far end opposite boats, which was a more sheltered spot and produced better results, the first place angler had 6 small bream for 7lb 3oz caught close in by reeds, The angler in second place had 6lb 8oz which was made up of 3 bream and two Perch.

Wyboston Work Party
Work Party Team members Dave M, Bob Burdiak and Wojciech Dunaj were out on the River at Wyboston Saturday and strimmed all the swims and pathways along the River. We will give it another trim just before the river season starts on the 16th June. Bailiffs Brian and Warren made further improvements to the Wyboston access track adding and rolling more aggregate.
That's it for this week
