We know quite a few fish are being caught at North House and not being reported whilst there is no requirement to report your catches, Regular catch reports are very important for the club as we need to maintain a healthy membership and your catch reports help to promote the club and it’s waters. We also need to keep up to date with the performance of the venue as this influences a number of factors including re-stocking and maintenance budgets.

Beckerings Reservoir
Ethan Griffiths had the Half Lin from Beckerings with the weight reported at 31lb 12oz.

Bailiff Neil Cox proved that having a walk round and finding the fish at Beckerings pays off. He found some fish feeding in the margins and placed a bait in the area and bam 5-10mins later this beauty graces the net, he didn’t weigh it but estimated it was probably around 17-18lb. A stunning fish caught on a madbaits wafter and a light lead.

Match Report, Wednesday 24th August Water End
It always nice to fish a new venue and this week we had arranged to fish an away venue - the recently refurbished How End ‘canal’ lake fishery at Water End.
Many of our regulars are still on holiday, and others had other commitments, so our attendance was down to 12 again this week. We missed Tony Hickmott and his usual pre-off treat of Werther’s sweets!
Wednesday’s forecast was very hot, the temperature climbing from 18 C to over 30C through the day, and we had a heavy muggy atmosphere as we started setting up. As the anglers set up the wind picked up, dying away to an almost flat calm from midday onwards.
The fishing this week was challenging for many, the F1 Carp in this venue giving finicky bites that were not the easiest to connect with. The result was close this week with not much separating the top two.
Jim Tookey our winner fed two open water lines and an additional margin line for late on. His 5-metre line was steady all day, Jim was fishing 4mm pellet for the F1s on this line. He switched lines for the last hour and had a few bigger carp in the margin on corn, ending with 47lb 10oz.
Dudley Frankland fed the margins from the off with micros and dead reds and continued to do this little and often whilst catching ide and rudd ¾ way over in the upper layers. He started feeding maggots once he saw the carp arrive and stayed fishing top kit plus one down the edge using 6m banded pellet over micro & 4m pellets, ending with 44lb 10oz.
Richard Gibbs finished third with a mixed bag of 17lb 15oz, while Dennis Hunt started slowly catching rudd ¾ way across on maggot switching lines when the F1’s arrived to fish banded corn on the inside at 6 Metres, but unfortunately lost several bigger fish during the afternoon when they fell off, finishing with 13lb 8oz!
Thanks to our draw and weigh Stewards who greatly assisted on the day. All our anglers had a great day out this week on a venue where we all want to return, many thanks to Pip and Phil for making us so welcome, we will be back before long I’m sure.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 21st August 2022

Here is this weeks News, Information and Catch Report round up from Luton Angling Club.

River Ouse
David Howell has been targeting the Carp in Luton stretches of the Ouse. He had success catching two carp, a common of 22lb 5oz and the other 18lb 8oz. We've not mentioned the exact stretch as a lot of work and effort goes into these catches. Most of our River Ouse sections hold large carp so well worth a go.

Another Junior member, 9 year old Frankie, caught his PB from Beckerings after a 48hr session with dad Darren. This fish was caught on the final morning. It was too heavy for him to pick up safely on his own so a mat shot was taken then Darrren picked it up for a better photo. Frankie ended the session with the 1 carp and 50 or so small perch.

South Lagoon Wyboston
The swim refurbishment works around the lagoon are progressing well and what an improvement improvement with the quality of the swims. They are now much safer to access via new steps and more comfortable to fish from. Unfortunately though someone does not respect the club or other anglers and obviously does not appreciate the money spent and efforts made by the club as they felt it acceptable to leave a huge pile of rubbish for the bailiffs to clear away. The Wyboston lakes complex has excellent CCTV coverage so we hope to identify those responsible and they will no longer be welcome at the venue.

Wednesday Match Report - 17th August River Ouse Wyboston
Many regulars are still on holiday, and others had prior appointments, so our attendance was down to 12 this week. Wednesday’s forecast was storms and heavy rain, the temperature at 18 C and a heavy muggy atmosphere seemed to indicate it would indeed rain later. The river temperature was a steady 22C throughout the day and the water had a slight flow after the heavy rainstorms locally the day before, but nothing like what would normally be expected at this time of year.
As the anglers set up the wind picked up and we had a rain shower, which then passed over.
The wind picked up a few more times during the day, and at one point the overcast became very threatening, but thankfully no more rain materialised.
As usual numbers of methods Whip, Pole, Waggler and feeder were tried, and baits used were Maggot, Pinkie, Hemp, Tare etc. The most successful baits were Maggot and Pinkie. The fish seemed to want hemp fed but seemed reluctant to take the hemp and tare on the hook although some odd fish were caught on these baits when tried.
All the anglers enjoyed the day out and appreciated the fact that despite the damp forecast we didn’t get wet!
A big thank you to all those who helped as Stewards on the day both with the draw and weigh in.
