Here is all of the news, information and catch reports from Luton Angling Club for the week ending Sunday 22nd October 2023.

Lavendon Mill - River Ouse
Roger Bland had a challenging day on the river at Lavendon on Monday, The water was high, very coloured, pushing through fast, and plenty of weed debris floating past. Using heavy feeder tactics and 3 red maggots on the hook, He managed to winkle out 4 nice Bream, the biggest about 7lb and 3 Roach. Also another nice Bream was lost at the net. It should fish really well as the level drops.

It's getting to the time of year again where shooting takes place on or around the Reservoir. The necessary risk assessments have been carried out by the shoot organisers, and the reservoir remains open to anglers. The shoots are usually of a relatively short duration, and the gamekeepers will patrol prior to the shoot to advise anglers of what to expect.
We'll try and have signage on site warning that a shoot will be taking place on the relevant days. Please note that these shoots are not arranged or organised by LutonAC.

Grand Union Canal
Not a recent catch but this picture popped up on Edward Allens facebook memorise this week and serves as a reminder of the fantastic winter fishing the canal has to offer. This superb Perch was caught three years ago by Ed's son Dexter on the canal near Three Locks and weighed 3lb 9oz. They'll definitely be targeting our waters for some more big Stripey's this winter.

CRT & Daiwa Global Communities Celebration Event.
Hinstock Shropshire Sat 21st October 2023.
This weekend the Luton Coaches and three invited young Luton Anglers made their way to Shropshire again to take part in the CRT Daiwa sponsored Global Community event, a now annual legacy event following the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham last year with 250 competitors taking part.
The weather in the 48 Hours leading up to the event was terrible, with heavy wind and rain from Storm Babet all over the country. However, the morning of the match dawned bright and clear, and apart from the Shropshire Union canal being very full and the colour of milk chocolate (as can be seen in the pictures) due to the amount of mud washed in by the rain, everything went off very smoothly, and there was no further rain during the match.
The three Luton anglers, were two young Juniors Dylan and Daniel, and a full junior Kayden. They did extremely well.
The conditions meant the fishing wasn’t easy, but Dylan came individual 24th with 250 Grams and Daniel Individual 15th with 450 Grams and a team result of 6th in the young junior (10-13) category. They came away with medals and prizes, Daniel bagged a Daiwa Waggler rod for his 15 / 45 place as well as a plaque for top catch in the team.
Kayden, our Junior weighed in 1 Kilo 800 Grams, an exceptional performance in the conditions beating some much more experienced Juniors. He was placed individual second out of 45, being pipped for top slot by just 100 Grams. His team were second placed overall in the junior category. Kayden picked up his individual second place trophy, his second place team trophy, which also included the highest team weight, and a Daiwa feeder rod and reel, with tackle boxes etc.
We have some talented young anglers representing the Club, who look very smart in their blue Luton shirts, and we should all be very proud of their achievements.
Next Saturday we start our winter once a month classroom session for our Cadets and Junior anglers teaching skills that are hard to do on the bank like tackle setups etc, held in a Luton Community Centre, do you know anyone who would like to join us, cost is £5-00 per session to help with the cost of room hire, please contact the club for more details if you know anyone who may be interested in joining us.

Match Report 18th October
GUC Town North
It was a dark late autumn morning with the temperature at only 13C, and a cold breeze blowing as we met on the bank on Wednesday. The water was coloured and temperature much lower at under 10C due to the sudden drop at the weekend.
We were also aware of an approaching storm with its associated drop in air pressure.
The canal surface in some areas was covered in leaves that had recently fallen from the trees and for some in the more exposed swims it was a very chilly affair with many reaching for windproof jackets from the off.
We had two ‘Breasted Pairs’ of old GUC Town Class working boats come through at the start and a couple of other boats during the day. Given the conditions I think most were expecting a tough match.
Our winner this week was Les Burton who fished a feeder rod to the far bank and took one decent bream and some bits to weigh 2lb 14oz.
Second place was taken by Dudley Frankland who fished two lines, at 9m at 10 o’clock & 2 o’clock, one positive line with chopped worm & the other using a strung-out rig with caster & pinkie. He alternated between the two through the match, catching perch and one skimmer for 2lb 11oz.
Sean Leatherland caught both at 2.5 and 9m throughout the match and caught mainly small roach using squatt, maggot and caster for 2lb 10oz. Sean commented that he should have had more, but he was one of those plagued by the leaves on the surface.
Dennis Hunt, in one of the wind tunnel swims, was 4th with 2lb 3oz of mainly skimmer with a decent hybrid all taken on pinkie over groundbait at 9m
Many thanks for all who assisted as Stewards this week Barry Roper and Ash Bunnage and special thanks to Roger Baker who came to weigh in and recording the weights for us, enabling us to clear\ the bank before the heavy rain started.
