Members should note that the farm are planning to install some new pipework into Beckerings reservoir on Monday (16th October) from the new lagoon in the North West corner of the reservoir. Very little of this work will have an impact on the use of the reservoir except when they dig across the top of the bank. This will be done relatively quickly and backfilled immediately. The finished job will have no impact on the path around the top of the bank itself.
Wedhesday Match Report 11-10-2023
Biddenham River Ouse
8 anglers were present for this week's Wednesday match on the River Great Ouse at Biddenham. Once again, the club and bailiffs do a superb job in managing the water.
The river colour was great but with the recent dry weather, there was not much in the way of flow. Thanks to Barry for doing the quick "recce" of the pegs and we agreed which eight to include in the match. With no rain forecast until 2pm it came as a surprise to all (well, all that is, except Les who had pointed out the big black cloud looming over us, when a heavy rain shower hit just as we were drawing pegs. Thankfully, but for a smaller shower, the rain held off until the match ended and the majority had returned to their cars.
Fishing this week was more difficult than had been envisaged with a number of anglers reporting the fishing being affected by the Ouse's predatory fish. Ray caught two pike during the match and other anglers had fish taken by other predators.
Adrian Smith drew end peg no 14 and switching between 9m where he fished worm or double red maggot over groundbait and 13m fishing worm or double red maggot over worm, maggot and caster caught a mixed bag for 5lb 15ozs.
Richard Darbon on peg 8 was 2nd in the match and kept his tactics simple by fishing a 5m pole and double red maggot for another mixed bag of fish for 4lb 1-1/2ozs.
Les Bolland on peg 7 was third with 3lb 10-1/2ozs. Included in Les's catch was a lovely perch of 2lb caught on the feeder with worm hookbait under the tree across the river.
Full Result:
1st - Adrian Smith 5lb 15ozs Peg 14
2nd - Richard Darbon 4lb 1-1/2ozs Peg 8
3rd - Les Bolland 3lb 10-1/2ozs Peg 7

No photos this week due to a hasty weigh in and pack up before the rain hit
