Nobby Clarke Fished South Lagoon on Wednesday. He fished peg 4 using a 10 metre whip with a flick tip.
He had 23 half decent Roach and a few smaller ones. He managed a few 6/7 oz fish and a couple of 9/10oz. He unfortunately lost a good Bream, which he said was a shame but never mind. He had a very enjoyable day, and he said it was nice to get a few Roach as it’s been a while.

The Wednesday Match group held their match at the lagoon this week, their full match report is below.
John Botfield had 110lb of Bream from the South Lagoon, They were all proper slabs between 4lb 8oz and 7lb. He also had approximately 30-35lb worth of Carp. All fish caught on the feeder at 37m between 5am and 10am
MATCH REPORT - Wednesday 14th May South Lagoon Wyboston.
It was a hazy overcast morning as we met for our draw at South Lagoon, and it was great to welcome existing member Paul Webb for the first time this week.
The initial somewhat chilly temperature was 8C, which soon rose, but it really was a day of stark contrast, some anglers sitting in brilliant sunshine sheltered from the wind applying copious quantities of suncream, and others on the bank between the Lagoon and North House in the shade with a strong Northeast wind blowing in their faces huddled in winter jackets.
The lagoon looked great, holding good colour with a water temperature recorded at 19C and there was the unmistakeable sound of the Cuckoo singing in the trees.
Simon Faulkes set out to fish the feeder today. He clipped up at 40 yards and introduced 10 large cage feeders of ground bait laced with chopped worm, caster and hemp at the off. He then changed to a swim feeder; getting bites straight away but they didn't really get their heads down! Simon had 5 skimmers and 3 fish lost in the first 3 hours and then went an hour without a bite. Simon then took the clip off and punched it out further, resulting in a wrap around in the last few minutes of the match which 7mins later resulted in a carp of 7lb 5oz gracing his net. Simon ended the day taking the win with 12lb 7oz,
Second place was taken by Steve Lathwell who also fished a tip rod all day, using both cage and window feeders with dead red maggot on the hook feeding ground bait and a little chop worm. Steve fished at 30 metres, but found he had to reduce the initial length of his hook length to 2.5 feet to hit the bites. Steve lost two decent fish when they ran under the nearside bank bushes but ended with 7lb 14oz of Silvers.
Dennis Hunt also opted to fish a tip rod clipped up at 35 Yards and introduced 5 big feeders of groundbait laced with maggot at the off. Dennis was using a 14 hook with a large bunch of red maggots, and after 30 Mins he had a couple of small taps followed by a huge take, resulting in a hooked fish which was eventually lost in the near bank bushes after 10 Minutes. Dennis continued to catch Silvers , with a slack spell at early afternoon and a final fish just before the whistle, ending on 4lb 1oz and third place.
Fourth place was taken by Tony Hickmott, also fishing a tip rod. Tony landed 3 Bream, and lost two others using a helicopter rig, with double or sometimes triple maggot on a size 16, ending with 3lb 5oz.
We all enjoyed our day on the lagoon this week despite the changeable conditions and lost fish!
Thanks to everyone who helped to make the event a success by doing the admin, and assisting with the weigh in

Coaching Update
On Saturday 10th May our Coaches helped four of our Juniors in a Session at How End. We had Kayden and Cody practicing with poles and introduced Louis and Alex to the method feeder. For Alex, it was his first real experience of using rod and line, and he did very well.
The session went very positively, and all who came learnt a lot and really enjoyed themselves, all catching plenty of fish. Louis had a nice Tench, and all had at least one Carp at the end of the session.
We have a ‘Lets Fish at Slapton on Monday and will be back practicing on the Canal next Saturday sharpening the skills of our Juniors in preparation for the Daiwa sponsored CRT Regional heat on 18th May.
CRT National Pairs - 25th May 2025 - Grand Union Canal
On Sunday 25th May 2025, The club is proud to be hosting a heat of the CRT National Pairs competition on Sections 3 & 4 above and below Three Locks on the Grand Union Canal. This was arranged after the 2024/25 Membership books were printed, so does not appear in the fixtures list in the book. Always check the website and Facebook page for any changes or additions to our events and work parties to avoid a wasted trip or any conflict.
Venue Maintenance
During the River close season our dedicated team of bailiffs and volunteers work hard behind the scenes to ensure our River sections are kept under control as without regular maintenance they soon become a jungle. Bob Burdiak strimmed downstream at Lavendon Mill today - he said a mystery person had already mowed the track and the 4 swims between the bridges, possibly something to do with the landowner as they have done it before for us, Thank you to whoever it was!! Bob did did the rest. He had to move a few bits of flood debris along the way. I'm sure it will get a little more attention before the 16th June too! He did add that as always at this time of year when we can’t fish the river, It looked superb with streamer weed growing, and chublets and dace topping all along the stretch. I've also been informed he has also trimmed the Slapton Car Park - Thanks Bob.
Elsewhere, Andy Smith has been busy around North House Lake carrying out some general maintenance work and at Beckerings Neil Cox mowed all around the reservoir. Des Saunders continues to work tirelessly at many of our venues keeping the weeds down and the grass cut.
All our bailiffs work very hard all year round keeping our venues in great condition, I am only mentioning the specific jobs that have been brought to my attention and lots goes on behind the scenes and we are very grateful to all those who give their time to maintain the venues.

Sorry for the delayed result to the book draw we ran in April (membership renewals got in the way) but we have now drawn the winners.
The Winners are Del Nash and Gary Scott - We will contact you to arrange sending the books to you.
The book was written by one of our club members - "Memoirs of the Banana Man" is mostly a collection of Chris Willis' personal fishing stories, and some opinions that he wanted to share. It certainly is not a book about how to catch - that has been done a thousand times - I am told that some of the recollections are based on Luton and Vauxhall river stretches though the real venue names aren't mentioned.
The book is now available on amazon https://amzn.eu/d/hIkuBye if anyone else is interested.
Once again thanks to the author Chris Willis for providing us with a couple of copies.

If you would like to send us a catch report from a Luton AC Water you can send reports and pictures via our facebook page and other social media accounts, the club website or via what’s app message to 07940 229071. Don’t forget every picture we receive is automatically entered into our monthly photo prize which is judged by the committee and you could win £25.00. It’s not always the biggest fish that wins so well worth sending in any of your catch reports. Tight Lines Until Next Week! Dave M Luton AC
