Here is this weeks news, information and catch report round up from Luton Angling Club. With the river close season now upon us, many will be reflecting on what has been a challenging river campaign.
Constant flooding made most river stretches unfishable for long spells, and river fishing opportunities were few and far between and the lack of catch reports certainly reflected that.
Thankfully, all our still waters remain open year‑round and will continue to offer reliable sport as spring approaches.
Luton AC Annual General Meeting
Don't forget the club’s Annual General Meeting will take place on Thursday 26th March 2026 at Stopsley Working Men’s Club, 3 Putteridge Road, Luton, LU2 8HG. The venue provides free parking and a licensed bar. Members must bring their membership book in order to vote.
South Lagoon
Kletos landed two Pike on South Lagoon this week — a lively 7lb fish and then a superb 18lb 2oz specimen, his biggest of the season so far. The larger fish was in excellent condition, broad across the shoulders and sporting a serious set of teeth, as the photos make clear. A proper South Lagoon predator and a well‑earned highlight for his campaign.
North House Lake
Rod Gladston was only an hour and half into a 24 hour stay at North House Lake recently and this 25lb Common came to play - it was caught on a yellow wafter..
Martin Scholes did another night at North House, He caught 2 commons 21lb 2oz and a 19lb 5oz over mad baits wicked whites and corn with a trimmed down 16mm wicked white pop up.
Beckerings Reservoir
Jason Mash brought a welcome end to his run of blanks this week catching two fish, the better of the two being a fine, hard‑fighting Common. The fish showed plenty of spirit on the way to the net — “it fought like a tiger” in Jason’s words — and arrived just as he was contemplating packing away, the rod suddenly screaming off to signal its arrival. A well‑earned capture and a pleasing return to form on the lake for Jason.

Club Thanks Volunteers for Recent Work
Our club is very lucky to have a great team of volunteers that are always willing to help in times of need. Thursday was such a case, after we were informed that a tree had fallen in our car park at Slapton, on the Grand Union canal, impeding the access to most of the car park and an adjacent property.
Bob Burdiak, one of our two licenced chainsaw operators, altered his plans for the morning and attended to the situation. Thank you Bob, for everything you do for us, it's much appreciated.
Andy Peirson visited Beckerings again, and with the club's permission, Filled some more of the potholes along the track with hardcore. Thank you again for your help Andy, it's much appreciated.
Also at Beckerings Bailiff Rob moved some of the cut branches from around the reservoir ready for chipping.
Wednesday Match Report 11th March 2026 - Biddenham
Despite the overnight rain on Tuesday night, making the ground a bit slippery, Wednesday morning dawned bright and clear, and the sun in the sky gave some warmth, although it did get much colder as the day went on as it clouded over and the wind picked up.
There were 18 of us and we were glad to be out fishing on this lovely spring day, and as this would be our last river outing of the 2025 / 26 season we were hopeful that we may find some fish. The venue looked great with an upstream wind, some colour and a good steady flow.It was good to see some who hadn’t managed to get out for some time back out with us again, although we still haven’t seen Malcolm Ogden so far this year, and everyone wishes him a speedy recovery.
Top slot this week went to Graham Stringer who started off with three balls of groundbait laced with red maggots and Fluro pinkies. Graham fed this mix through a pole pot at about 6 metres. As he was pegged under a tree he had to remove the bottom section of his whip. He ran his float through over the top of his groundbait at full depth.
Graham used mostly single red maggot on the hook with the odd change to a pinkie. Graham said it took about 2 hours before the roach turned up, but after that he caught steadily finishing the day with 4lb 2oz.
Second place was taken by Richard Gibbs who drew peg 4 and seeing that there was decent colour and flow decided to fish the pole. His swim was around 14ft deep at 11 metres, so he set up an 8grm Silverlight flat float to a 16's hook. After cupping in several balls of Sonubaits dark river groundbait he inched his rig through the swim and caught from the start.
Most fish were roach between 1 and 5 oz. with a few small chub. Richard caught steadily for a couple of hours on red and flouro maggot and pinkies. Richard had 50 fish and only 2 bleak!.
The gusting wind then started to make presentation difficult and together with Mr Pike appearing meant that I spent the last 3 hours scratching for bites. With the result being 3 nil to the Pike. Richard finished with 70 fish for 3lbs 14ozs.
Third was Colin Holmes who took a couple of decent fish early on a feeder setup which soon went dead and the rest using a float running through to finish with 3lb 8oz.
Dudley Frankland fished a 5mtr whip to hand to take 3lb 4oz using small balls of ground bait and maggot/ pinkie hook to finish fourth with 3lb 4oz.
Special thanks to Ray Burton for doing the admin with pools and peg fees, even the draw, and all who helped with the weigh in.

Juniors back out on the Bank
It was great to see the weather turning milder and some of our younger Luton Anglers back on the bank. They spent a few hours fishing putting the skills they learned during the fun indoor classroom sessions we ran over the winter into practice, they have kindly sent in photos of some of their catches. Let’s hope the warmer weather continues and the fishing keeps improving as its great seeing their progress.
