ANNOUNCEMENT
Its never nice to have to drop waters but sometimes large rent increases mean that tough decisions have to be made.

That was the case with the small Tingrith lakes when the owners decided a circa 40% increase for the 2019/20 season and well above inflation annual increases represented good value.

Whilst the lakes are fun waters and represented good value in the past the Luton AC Board unanimously agreed that the £61,200+ of members money we would spend on rent at Tingrith over the next 10 years (with compounded increases) would be better used improving and restocking our other venues.

With this in mind we have already agreed to order some large carp asap for both North House and Beckerings with our target fish being over 30lb if available. These will replace larger fish which have died through old age over the years but in the past hadnt been replaced relying on smaller fish to grow on.

We will also continue to look to stock other species like the Ide, Barbel & Chub that went into Beckerings last year and are already providing excellent sport for our members.

In addition we hope to have the North House toilet in place for early in the new season and are working with the farmer at Beckerings to site a toilet there as well.

We are always on the look out for new waters or water share opportunities so are working hard for our members behind the scenes.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 10th March 2019

Our 15 for 12 membership deal is still going strong and a couple of new members have sent in their catch reports this week.

GREAT OUSE
Lure angler Mark Austin had literally picked up his membership book and headed off lure fishing one of our Ouse sections. He caught 3 jack pike before hooking into a massive perch which was 45cm long (18 inches) and weighed in at 4lb 2oz

On the Ouse at Harrold was canal bailiff Michael Wilkins whose chub session changed to bream following a text conversation with the clubs Press Officer (me) who told Michael he was in a noted bream area. Nothing could have prepared Michael for the huge 10lb 7oz river bream that then took a liking to his bread offering during the short 2.5hr session. In the photo Michaels unhooking mat is 25in long and the bream is a couple of inches longer!

Dariusz Blahuta lure fished on the Wyboston Ouse and landed a good size perch on a 4" shad

NORTH HOUSE LAKE
New member Paul Sweet on his first night on North House Lake landed a 20lb 8oz common.

Brad Pearson managed one of the stockies at 11lb 5oz which was stocked on 5/10/17 at 6lb 4oz so has gained an impressive 5lb 1oz in 17 months and is nearly double its original weight!

SOUTH LAGOON
Brian Turner tempted an 8lb pike

GRAND UNION CANAL
As seen on the Canal Carping UK facebook page a 27lb 8oz mirror was caught from one of our canal sections on Sunday morning. Sadly the angler had left when our bailiff arrived but the capture was confirmed by two other anglers.

MATCH RESULT
Braggers AC fished the GUC Three Locks to Bragenham Side Sunday 3rd March in wet and windy conditions but still put some decent weights on the scales for early March
1st. Barry Himsworth 14lbs 4oz
2nd John Llewellyn 9lbs 4oz included in weight a perch of 2lbs 8oz
3rd Terry Marchant 6lbs

The South Lagoon carp aren't the easiest to catch but when they are scaley beauties like the 22lb 8oz specimen caught by Flip Dunaj on Saturday morning it makes the blanks worthwhile. Filip also added one of the Lagoons big bream which are more obliging feeders.

Also on the Lagoon was Wojciech who caught 6 pike.

Dexter visited the Ouse with his dad and caught a nice sized pike.

GRAND UNION CANAL

NORTH HOUSE LAKE

Ethan Griffiths caught a 24lb 12oz mirror

while Dave Brown managed a double figure common.

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
Conor Healy tempted a double figure common

with Dave Brosnan banking a nice pike.

Our bailiff team has asked us to remind members that now the water level in the reservoir is back up to the platforms it is now fishing from the platforms only and bivvies must be erected on the platform only and not on the perimeter track which as part of the terms of our lease has to be kept clear at all times.

CORRECTLY POSITIONED BIVVIE ON PLATFORM

INCORRECTLY POSITIONED BIVVIE NOT ON THE PLATFORM & OBSTRUCTING THE PERIMETER TRACK

GRAND UNION CANAL
The pike fishing on the canal has been good this winter proved by an abundance of lure anglers like Silviu Stoica whose latest catch was a very light coloured pike on an rubber lure.

Nearby Callum fished with his dad Phil and caught 48 gudgeon, 10 perch and 10 small roach/skimmers with all of the fish coming to a 20 hook and either pinkie or punch as bait.

SOUTH LAGOON
The pike have started to shoal up ready for spawning and the lagoon is one place where multiple catches can be made. Marek Zanko managed 4 male pike to 6lb during his trip.

Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 3rd February 2019

BECKERINGS RESERVOIR

Shane Clarke managed a 17lb 4oz common

with the two 30lb+ fish making an appearance since the water level has gone up along with many of the 20's although a lot of the reservoir regulars are rather publicity shy. The level has gone up 3-4 feet in the last couple of weeks so should hopefully be full again by the end of Feb/early March. The farmer tells us that he wont be cutting back the willows this year but the club will be trimming some of the nuisance branches before the level gets up to the platforms again and makes the trimming too difficult. Our bailiff team tell us that float anglers have been catching some of the hard fighting pristine chub and ide introduced a few months ago which is good news as we hoped they would provide some winter sport outside of the usual carp and pike.

GREAT OUSE
Lots of jack pike are being caught on lures from all of our Ouse sections and by keeping mobile its a great way to stay warm in the cold weather.

GRAND UNION CANAL
Much of the canal has been frozen this week but some nice perch have been caught in the clear areas on lures.
