Weekly News Report 5th February 2017

Despite the wet weather this week we have had a few reports coming in, Danny Peacock night fished the South Lagoon and caught three tench(Yes tench in February!)  The biggest of the fish weighed 5lb 1oz. Danny also had a couple of Bream during the night one of 6lb 4oz and another of 8lb 10oz.

Young member Callum Anderson fished the Grand Union Canal near the Globe and caught a number of Bream pictures of the bigger fish he caught can be seen below, You will also see from the photos that Callum is proud to represent the Junior section of the club which is now known as the Kingfishers. As you may already be aware the club was recently awarded a grant of almost £8000 from Sport England for the purpose of coaching and we will be putting this to good use and will be running several events and running coaching sessions to encourage more people including youngsters to take up fishing. The club currently has two level one Angling Trust coaches who are currently gaining their level 2 qualifications and we also have funding to train more level one coaches there are still a couple of places available so if you are interested in becoming a volunteer angling coach for the club please get in touch with Dennis Hunt (contact details on the website) who will be able to give you more information.

Also this week the fourth round of the Predator match was held at North House Lake at Wyboston. It was slightly more successful than the last round at Lavendon Mill as fish were caught this time!. Andy Wilkinson won the match with a pike weighing 8lb, Fergal O Kane came in second with a smaller pike of 3lb 8oz caught on a float fished roach dead bait. We raised another £80.00 for Keech Hospice bringing the total raised close to £300.00 thanks to all those that took part.

The fifth and final round of the series will be held on the River Ouse at Biddenham on 5th March so if you want to take part let us know as there are still a few places available it's £10.00 to enter with all proceeds again going to local charity Keech Hospice.

Angling Trust Volunteer Bailiff Scheme

The Voluntary Bailiff Service is now recruiting for more Phase 1 volunteers to join the anglers now trained to report incidents and support the Environment Agency and police in protecting fish and fisheries.

The VBS is funded by freshwater rod-licence income and covers the whole of England, which is sub-divided into six regions.

Phase 1 volunteers are trained by the Angling Trust, EA and police, and are provided AT badged clothing, reference materials, and report via an online, secure, website. Volunteers can contribute as many or as few hours as they wish, and are supported by their Regional Enforcement Manager and Area Coordinator. Volunteers have the opportunity to participate in joint patrols with the EA and police, and receive ongoing training. If you are interested in this please get in touch and we can forward you the relevant details of how to apply.
