A very busy week on all front for reports
KEEPNET BAN - REMINDER
Due to the ongoing hot weather, low water levels and reduced dissolved oxygen levels the Board decided at last nights meeting in the interest of fish welfare to impose an immediate ban on the use of keepnets on all of our waters until 30th September 2018.
The only exception will be in the limited number of matches already booked and we will be talking to the organisers of those
BECKERINGS RESERVOIR STOCKING
The reservoir already boasts decent carp fishing all year round with fish being caught in even the harshest of conditions.
We however understand that not all our members are carp anglers so as a step towards improving the winter fishing for other species we have ordered an initial stock of Barbel, Chub & Ide to see how they adapt to life in a reservoir.
225 fish have been ordered in the largest sizes available and these will be stocked all being well during this coming winter. Barbel need no introduction and if conditions suit them, growth rates are brilliant and they are one the best fighters around.
Chub are very quick growers and have big appetites, enabling them to put on weight very quickly. Another brilliant species for winter fun. Ive sat at Makins on a bone chilling winter day catching 5lb stillwater chub which was great fun!
Ide are not a very well known species, originating from Sweden they are the wild ‘non coloured’ variant of the golden orfe. These fish are fantastic as they fight like crazy and feed through the winter, when most other species slow down. They also grow to a good size and can readily achieve the 2-4lb range.
We will let you know in advance of the fish being stocked so that any member who wants to can watch them go in.

KHV OUTBREAK
KHV has been confirmed at Ashlands Lake Milton Keynes and the lake is now closed. Please ensure that your landing nets, slings, mats etc are left out in the sun to completely dry before using on any water. We have already banned keepnets until 30/9/18 on our waters except in matches which we will be reviewing. Thank you https://www.facebook.com/74262174852/posts/10156660638249853/

A very rare day off for fishing!
A few few months back I made arrangements to meet Darren and Mikey who hail from the north west for a day on the Grand Union canal around Leighton Buzzard, which is just another brilliant Luton AC club water! Mikey who is still only 11 years old, which with the way he fishes baffles me in all honesty. Today was about letting Mikey fish on my gear, teaching him every step from mixing ground bait correctly, making up rigs and tying hooks. Then it was all about deciding what lines on a natural water to choose and when. So a real eye opener was to be had.
I kick started the session explaining my reasons for feeding the lines the way I did. It didn’t take long to catch some cracking canal bream averging 3lb. Mikey soon kicked me off the box and amassed a total of 17 bream which we estimated at around 38-42lb total weight! (No keepnet today as Luton AC who control this stretch of canal have banned the use of them until September) A good decision with this hot weather. It wasn’t plain sailing as we had a few boating mishaps and I managed to lose a bream and rig in one go as it caught some far bank grasses! :(
Mikey is already on the England talent pathway and I am in no doubt he has the right guidance. I am sure he will be a part of the England juniors in the coming years!
Oh and I found a home for my Rive Cup prize!!
Top day Mike and Darren, see you again soon
KEMPSTON LAKE
Nathan Gardener caught a 20lb common a 16lb mirror plus bream of 10lb, 8lb & 6lb. His fishing partner Jessica went one better landing her first ever fish which was a mirror carp and pulled the scales round to 24lb.
Artur Szczerbinski has put his net under a couple of nice fish this week in the shape of a 24lb common and a 22lb mirror.
NORTH HOUSE LAKE
Brad Pearson banked three carp to 24lb 12oz
GRAND UNION CANAL
Tim Grover caught Two Tone the mirror carp at 24lb 7oz.
Bailiff Michael Wilkins tempted his 38th carp of the summer when he landed a 22lb 1oz mirror
SOUTH LAGOON
Jason Kelly put together a 22lb net of roach and skimmers.
Dawn Hatchelt had an 11lb common from this tricky carp venue.
BECKERINGS RESERVOIR
Dennis Pratley had a 20lb 6oz mirror
while Sam Barker managed several to 18lb plus some big bream
BIDDENHAM WORK PARTY
Two days were devoted to the club owned 40+ peg Ouse venue at Biddenham. There is always plenty to do and it was no exception this time around with lillies to rake and overhanging branches to remove. Duckweed has been an issue in recent years but the newly refurbished pump quickly moved it to drift away downstream. Whilst it will gather again at least in the short term it means swims are clear and fishable. Many thanks to the volunteers who attended and good to see some new faces.
