Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 2nd February 2020

Beckerings Reservoir
Mark Ridgeway had one of the larger catfish at 58lb 8oz during an overnight session.

Welcome news has been received that the farm has started refilling the reservoir this week and the water levels are on the rise. Bivvies will need to be placed on the platforms as the water levels are rising quite quickly. Please remember that Bivvies must not be set up on the grass and must be on the platforms. The reservoir should be completely full within a couple of weeks.

ROADWORKS UPDATE: According to the Central Beds Council website the roadworks are due to be finished and Fordfield Road will Re-Open fully on 7th February.

North House Lake
The club introduced 21 new carp into North House Lake in December 2017 all weighing between 5 and 8lb. This week Brad Pearson sent us a picture of a 16lb Mirror he caught that he thought maybe one of them. Comparing Brad’s photo to the pictures taken when the fish were stocked quickly identified the fish as number 7 which weighed 7lb 2oz when it was stocked to the lake. As well as its unique scale pattern it has a black mark just below its dorsal fin making it easily identifiable and no doubt the same fish. These fish appear to be growing as well as promised by our supplier and they are piling on the weight. We expect this fish to hit 20lb this year. If you catch any of the stockies please let us know as its great to monitor their growth.

South Lagoon - Wyboston
Predator fishing is still providing good sport for members at Wyboston. Wojciechs efforts were rewarded with a nice sized pike.

Janusz Kansik also had a really nice Pike which wasn’t weighed but he estimates it at around 14lb.

River Ouse
Luton AC chairman Fergal O Kane was out on the Ouse this weekend and using worms from his wormery was able to tempt a 2lb Perch into taking the bait.

Gareth Evans was also after the predators on the Ouse and had two Pike the largest was 9lb 5oz.

Grand Union Canal
Club Angling Trust Level 2 Coach Dennis Hunt and Barry Roper fished Town South on the weekly Luton over 55s Wednesday outing. The day started cold after an overnight frost, and the water temperature stood at 5C. It was a lovely January day to be fishing the canal which warmed as the day wore on and the Canal had better colour, although still quite clear. With the larger fish still seemingly reluctant to feed there was nothing for it but to go for the smaller fish on the 4 Metre line and he managed 65 small silvers on Pinkies, and a couple of bigger bonus Roach on chopped worm across for an estimated 2 1/2 Lbs. If you would like to join them on their weekly outings please let us know and we will pass on your details.

A couple of late match bookings have been received that are not printed in the membership book.

Sunday 9th February there is a match on Canal sections 6b & 7 so these sections will be unavailable to members and day ticket anglers. - NO CANCELLED DUE TO THE GALES FORECAST

Sunday 23rd February the Polish Fishing club will be holding a Lure match at Wyboston on the River Ouse. 20-30 anglers are expected so the River will be unavailable to members and day ticket anglers.

If you do get out fishing do let us know how you get on by sending us a quick report via facebook/email or you can use whatsapp and send pictures and reports to 07940 229071.
