Here is the weekly news round up from Luton Angling Club for the week ending 18th October 2020.
South Lagoon Wyboston
On South Lagoon last Sunday Robert Golinczak caught a rather strange but healthy looking pike with a deformed upper jaw.
Lavendon Bailiff Bob Burdiak spent the day on the upstream section (the deep end) The river was in perfect form and had a gentle flow with a hint of colour. He had a good day catching nice Roach, Perch and some nice skimmers. All were taken on a small cage feeder using caster, dead reds or worm sections. Three Roach were snaffled by Pike while reeling in and of course missing a lot of bites was par for the course.
Beckerings Reservoir
Tim Marler was Pike fishing at Beckerings he caught the fish known as Yellow Spot weighing in at 19lb the fish was caught using half a Mackerel on a barbless circle hook. He caught the same fish on spam a couple of months ago when targeting the Cats and it weighed 18lb then so obviously is feeding up for the winter but based on previous captures its weight is down a few pounds at the moment as it has previously weighed in around the 21-22lb mark.
North House Lake
Paul Parkinson was on North House for a 48hr session and managed to get two lovely Common carp one at 23lb and the other at 21lb 1oz all caught on Mad Baits Esta and Iso Cream with crushed up nut boilies.
Dave Brown had a good result with 4 fish in a 48hr session the weights ranging from 14lb to 23lb.
A nice 7lb Tench for Junior member Callum at Kempston.
Visitors to the River and North House Lake at Wyboston will know that the access track is in a poor condition again and in need of repair work. The club will be carrying out repairs to the track on Saturday 24th October and machinery will be in operation along the access track. The plan is to initially scrape and level the track and then early next year when the weather improves further work will take place and road scalpings will be added and rolled. Members should be aware that while the South Lagoon, River Ouse and North House Lake remain open on the 24th there will be times when access is restricted so you may have to wait for a short time to enter or leave the venue. There will also be considerable disturbance and noise while the work is carried out. Please park well clear of the track especially along the section between the River and North House Lake.
Match Reports
Nine met this week on a chilly autumn morning to fish our Town South section by the White Bridge in Leighton Buzzard.
Initial conditions were sunny with a slight breeze, which changed around midday when we had a heavy rain squall. This changed again into another bright spell until another rain squall hit about 3pm. We had a good match with the Canal fishing well, but water temperatures are dropping. At the moment the fish are still feeding well.
Most started on bread punch, some managing to keep fish coming on this bait, while others switched to feeding Squatt and fishing Pinkies with a little groundbait nearside and feeding Caster over. John Grey had a proper bream at 3lb 9oz and some nice skimmers for 9lb 9oz. Jim Tookey took second place with a nice mixed bag of Roach, Perch and Skimmers for 9lb 5oz .Richard Gibbs was third with a nice Perch among a mixed bag for 5lb 8oz.
Dennis hunt took a nice Canal Roach of 14oz in his catch, the biggest Canal roach caught on a Luton match for some time. Several were bothered by Pike Barry Roper having a large fish attack his keepnet. Nuala Gray had several hooked fish attacked.

Luton Club Coaches compete in Canal Pairs Competition
Two of the Club Coaches Myles Tommey and Dennis Hunt fished in the Canal Pairs heat at Foxton on the Grand Union Canal last weekend, and for a pair of rank outsiders who didn't know the water the mid table finish of 8th out of 16 was considered pretty reasonable. The match fished pretty hard following the sharp dip in overnight temperature and a strong cold wind.
Myles drew the peg numbers, Dennis had peg A16, Myles peg B7, and after walking to their pegs. they set up waiting for the off.
Myles match started short on Punch, but after only one bite in the first 20 Mins he decided to change to pinkie over on the far shelf where he had fed groundbait and Squatt. This brought him some roach which appeared intermittently during the day, but unfortunately the bites dried up completely in the last 40 Minutes.
Dennis’s match again started on Punch and it was difficult to hit bites and he only landed three roach in the first 45 mins, so decided to swap the punch line to pinkie and had more success. He had a lot of boats through, some of which crossed right in front of him around midday but after the water settled he had a golden hour with small perch. There were then another couple of boats and the swim seemed to switch off for some time.
It switched back on again in the middle of a rainstorm when it was blowing a gale. Dennis hooked and landed a Roach which he dropped because of cold wet hands and then had another few fish until the swim died again but it did come back alive for the last 30 minutes of the match. Had he not dropped that roach he’d have been 5th in section.
Here is Myles in his swim B7 just before the off on Saturday morning.
Luton A.C. will be jointly hosting a heat of this competition on 13th June next year with Tring, when Luton's Ivinghoe and Tring's Red Lion sections will be used.
Tight Lines until next Week,
Dave – Luton AC
