Thanks are due to bailiff Neil Cox as he spent some of his spare time at Beckerings on Friday moving 2 ton of material and filling some of the potholes along the track, we've ordered more and work will continue to fill more of the potholes when it arrives. Please drive very slowly to avoid washing/scouring it back out.
Rivers - Close Season
Remember, the traditional close season applies to all Rivers, it runs from 15th March to 15th June. The last day of the season is this Thursday, Let's hope the Rivers are fishable and see if we can get a couple of last minute catch reports in this week!
Match Report below for this week's Wednesday Match - report by Adrian Smith
The latest Wednesday match on the Grand Union Canal at The Globe attracted 11 anglers. The match was pegged from The Globe pub towards Sandy Bridge with the first peg opposite the railway embankment.
Thanks to a milder night and a warmer start to the day, weights were a significant improvement to the previous match on the same length of canal.
Prior to the match, those in close proximity were treated to a rather impromptu rendition of Wordsworth - "I wandered lonely as a cloud" by Terry. The reason why, will (like Stonehenge or the Loch Ness Monster) remain a mystery but no one could doubt the beauty in Terry's impeccable delivery of this historical lyric poem....
This weeks winner was Adrian Smith. Drawn on peg 4, Adrian had a close battle with Richard Darbon (who was on the next peg) but his two decent skimmers as the match drew to an end was enough to win with 5lb 1oz. Adrian caught the majority of his fish on his three quarter line using Pinkie over groundbait. Moving to the far bank swim produced a couple of net roach before a switch back to the three quarter line resulted in the two larger skimmers late on.
Richard Darbon on peg 5 came second with 3lb 1oz 8 drms. Richard fished two main lines in the boat track and on the bottom of the far shelf with maggot and pinkie over groundbait. Having caught a decent bream early, bites slowed for a while but by regular feeding, Richard began to catch odd fish steadily for the rest of match.
In third place was Colin Macbeth on peg 10. Colin started close in and caught well on breadpunch until bites died after be lost a fish. However, by then Colin's had amassed 2lb 12oz 4 drms of roach and skimmers for 3rd.
Just as the day had started with some art & culture, so it ended in similar fashion when, in the final hour of the match, Leighton Buzzards answer to "Banksy" turned up on the opposite side of the canal to create his own masterpiece of graffiti art on the railway embankment brickwork. The result was, to many, baffling and we probably need someone of great artist intelligence to interpret the meaning. Terry - over to you...
The next Wednesday Match is on Wednesday 13th March on the GUC at Town South. Meet at the venue for the draw at 8.30am. £1.00 peg fee and £5.00 optional pools, fish 10am till 3pm.
For anyone thinking of joining us for the first time can we ask that you message us so we know you are coming before turning up, so we can ensure we have room as this will allow us to better manage the pegging. You will be asked to produce your Club book at first appearance, so please have it with you.

Match Report for Round 3 of the Winter League.
Round 3 of the LAC Winter League was held at Three Locks on Sunday due to restrictions on pegging at Town South.
The anglers arrived on a dry morning but were greeted by a heavy overnight frost, with some reporting scraping ice from their cars. The canal had reasonable colour. Due to the number of boats the match was pegged both above and below the locks.
Unfortunately, the day turned out to be extremely tough going with only 9 of the 20 anglers catching fish. The main weights for those who did catch came from below the lock with the top weight above the lock being a mighty 1oz!
The match winner this week was Myles Tommey. Myles drew the end peg below the lock and having not caught on his near swims, switched to fish tight over to the far bank where he fed chopped worm and pinkie to catch 4 skimmers and a small perch for 2lb 5oz. Myles's weight was more than the total of all the other anglers who caught.
Ian Orbell was second. Pegged opposite the boats below the lock, Ian caught 25 small fish for 9oz 8drm. Ian caught the majority of his fish at 11metres fishing squat over groundbait and some small roach tight to the boat on breadpunch late on.
In third place was Keith Ward with 7oz 8drms. Also pegged opposite the boats below the lock, Keith caught his fish on pinkie having fed pinkie tight against the boats.
Top weight on the pegs above the lock was Dave Whillock who caught a small roach and a gudgeon for 1oz. However, that was enough for 4th place in the match.
The final round of the Winter League Match is on Sunday 24th March on the GUC at The Globe. Meet at the venue for the draw at 8.30am. £1.00 peg fee and £5.00 optional pools, fish 10am till 3pm
