Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week Ending 3rd March 2024

Here is all the latest news, information and catch reports from all Luton Angling Club waters for the week ending 3rd of March 2024.

Pretty much the same story out on the rivers with levels high and flowing very fast due to the ongoing wet weather, the way things are going that may be it for the season now as the river close season starts on 15th March. If we get a dry week this week there may be a chance for levels and flows to drop enough to allow us to get out on the last few days of the season.

Annual General Meeting
The club will hold its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 21st March 2024 at 8pm at the usual venue - Stopsley Working Mens Club, Putteridge Road, Luton. Members are encouraged to attend to keep up with club affairs. Remember to bring your membership book for proof of membership and eligibility to vote. Winners of this years specimen awards will be contacted in due course so they can attend and collect their awards.

Darren Savage had a nice surprise this week while roach fishing. This 19lb 14oz mirror was caught on the 3lb line he was using to target the roach! Some great skill involved getting that in the net!

Amer Jawad said it was quite tough going at Beckerings on Sunday after the overnight frost, However he still had a nice net of fish at the end of the session.

Also at the reservoir on Sunday was Fergal O'Kane after the Pike, as it was slow going he tried to catch a live bait or two, when he finally got a bite, it was this 3lb 2oz Ide, and before anyone asks, No he did not use it as bait.

He did eventually catch this Pike that weighed 9lb 6oz.

Bailiffs report than anglers have been catching Roach up to around 1lb and the Ide are providing good sport, an angler had a Perch of almost 2lb, and another angler had 4 carp between 15lb and 23lb and amazingly all these were caught on 3lb line and a size 16 hook.

A day ticket angler fishing in Peg 25 had 3 Pike the biggest just over 10lb and the smallest around the 6lb mark - No photos unfortunately

Match Report 28th February Mill Cotton, Ringstead.
This week, the Wednesday boys were going to the fish the River Nene at Ringstead but due to the river being in flood our friends at Wellingborough kindly gave us permission to fish their lake, Mill Cotton instead.
There were only 7 competing as several regulars had to call off because of illness and other commitments. The lake, like at most venues at the moment, was very muddy with pushing trollies to the pegs a challenge!
It was a day when all the anglers caught, and some good fish were lost during the match. The weather was overcast with a cold wind, and the rain appeared at lunchtime for a while and then vanished again.
Thanks to Steve Lathwell and Ray Burton for stepping up and running proceedings this week. Unfortunately, due to the inclement weather and people wanting to get home, no pictures were taken!
Results
1st Steve Lathwell 5lb 8oz
2nd Andy Norgate 3lb 8oz
3rd Ray Burton 3lb 6oz
4th Terry Vickers 2lb 8oz
5th Richard Darbon 2lb 0oz
6th Malcolm Ogden 1lb 0oz
7th Les Burton 0lb 6oz
Our next Match is on Wednesday 6th March, and we had intended to be on the river at Wyboston, but due to the continued flooding we will now reschedule to the Canal.
The new venue is yet to be decided but we will notify everyone when its confirmed.

For anyone thinking of joining us for the first time can we ask you message us so we know you are coming before turning up, so we can ensure we have room as this will allow us to better manage the pegging.
You will be asked to produce your Club book at first appearance, so please have it with you.
