Here is the weekly catch reports, news and information round up from Luton Angling Club for the week ending 16th June 2024.
Our river anglers welcomed the 16th June and the start of the 2024/25 river season this weekend with our stretches in fine condition thanks to the hard work of all our bailiffs and volunteers.
On the 16th Ian Fourmy fished Lavendon downstream from about 6am until 2pm, it was a very difficult day and the silvers weren't showing, (even the bleak!), he didn't see a single fish top while there. He did manage a few roach, chublets, dace and bleak but it was a real struggle. He put a lump of luncheon meat out while having his lunch and an old battle scarred warrior chub took a liking to his offering, it was bang on 5lb!! He was happy with that for the first day, and it was great to get out, and with the ever changing weather he got soaked and then sunburnt!!
Beckerings Reservoir
Gareth Evans spent a lovely Sunday evening on Beckerings and the end result was four carp the biggest at 18lb. They gradually got smaller as the session progressed but a fair bit of action.

After his first 2 sessions on beckerings were uneventful Chris Hanlon booked on Beckerings again last night and he was not disappointed, he got there at 4pm the rods were out for an hour and half and he was into his first carp and what a beauty she was, and a new pb for Chris at 28lb 10oz. The action didn't stop there as throughout the evening and night he had a further 7 Carp ranging from 14lb 10oz up to 27lb 5oz, a couple of bream and a cracking little tinker of a tench, safe to say he was very happy

Coaching and Let's Fish Updates
It was great to see so many of our Luton Kingfishers and the club Coaches out on the Canal bank at Three Locks last weekend (Saturday 8th June 2024). We welcomed two new members Max and Alex to their first club session.
Max with his new pole and Alex with a borrowed pole caught well throughout the session, catching Roach, Rudd, Perch, Ruff and skimmer bream, Alex ended up with over 30 fish, his biggest ever canal bag. Both boys had some fine roach and perch, and Alex is pictured with his best ever Canal fish, a decent roach and perch.
Max’s brother also wanted a go and caught a lovely roach, so he is also hooked now!
The rest of the Kingfishers also caught well, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session, which, for the most part, was in warm sunshine.

The fishing wasn’t easy, but all our young anglers were all getting bites and catching fish.
Daniel who was out with us for the first time fished a short pole, caught some perch and was delighted. Kayden was practising with his tip rod and lost two nice skimmers, while Cody and Jack were practising with poles, feeding squatt and fishing pinkie. Cody had a nice bag of 1lb 8 oz including a Gudgeon, and Jack had a good few fish which included a small chub.
It’s great to see these young anglers developing their skills and being able to fish a variety of methods, and really well done to all who came and we hope to see you all again next week.

Match Report 12 June 2024
GUC Ivinghoe
This week, we were fishing the Grand Union at Ivinghoe, this is usually a good summer section, so we were hopeful of a good day. The weather was warm but overcast, and thankfully, this week we avoided the rain!
The fishing turned out to be very hard this week as several very good canal anglers blanked and left early recording a DNW.
The match was dominated by end pegs, Tim Watts winning from peg 19 with 8lb 4oz. He reckoned that if he was going to get bream he needed to get them out of the shoal and in the net quickly from the clear shallow water on far side, to avoid spooking the shoal.
Following the ‘all in’ he got four bream in quick succession on his heavy end gear, and then that was pretty much it, leaving him scratching for the rest of the match, only taking another four small Perch.
Dennis Hunt on peg one started on a pole at 6 Metres and took one decent bream after 30 minutes on punch. He then swapped to Pinkie over groundbait and took a decent perch. Bites then dried up again, so he swapped to a waggler rod over against the boat to take another smaller Perch. His lines then dried up again, and after a fallow period swapping between lines he went back to fishing a waggler with a worm head on the hook. The float dipped and then disappeared, and another big hard fighting Canal bream was landed. Dennis ran Tim Watts very close ending with 8lb 2oz, only 2oz off the winner.
Dave Ridley took third, he fished two lines, one just past the boat channel and another a metre off the far bank. He fished a waggler 6” over-depth with double pinkie or single red. He caught a 3 lb 3 oz bream in the first hour, then struggled for the rest of the match, only managing one other fish, a small perch, ending with 3lb 5oz.
Syd Wilson in fourth took a 2-12-0 bream caught on double dead red and 2 perch, one on Squatt and one on small piece of worm, all at 13m. He lost a good perch on his squatt rig, the fish breaking 0.7mm hook length.
Thanks to Barry Roper and Adrian Smith for the pegging and Tracy for weighing in yesterday.
