Here is the Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area for the Week Ending 16th February 2025.
Match Report 12th February 2025 GUC Town North
It was back on the GUC at Town North this week with fingers crossed the Canal would fish better than the previous week at Town South. 14 anglers attended and as we met at the venue the colour of the Canal (milky tea as can be seen in the pictures) wasn’t encouraging, but you never know.
After the draw we made our way along the towpath passing numbers of moored boats that had made getting the required 14 pegs this week a challenge,we set up our gear and waited for the off
When the whistle went at 10, Sean Leatherland fed a small ball of liquidised bread, went in with a piece of punch on the hook, the float buried and he had his first fish in the net within 5 mins of starting, which certainly boosted everyone’s confidence! We had two boat movements during the day which double locked towards the Globe causing minimal disturbance about midday. While the day wasn’t prolific the Canal certainly fished better than the week before and everyone caught, the match being a tight affair. The fish when caught felt like blocks of ice!
Our Winner was Steve Lathwell who had a slow start but got the win with 4lb dead. A pound chub, a rare fish in any Luton Canal section made the difference putting Steve top of the frame this week.
Dennis Hunt started by feeding liquidised bread at 5 Metres with punch on the hook and had a bite soon after starting but unfortunately lost the fish. However, going back in Dennis had put another couple of skimmers in the net before the swim slowed, but changing bait and feeding squatt with pinkie on the hook produced another. The swim then slowed and Dennis went out to 12 Metres against the far side vegetation on worm and continued to alternate taking odd fish for the rest of the match ending with 3lb 4oz.
Fishing at 8 metres feeding a little groundbait with pinkie and fishing a single maggot on a 22 hook Richard Darbon weighed 2lb 14oz to take third Place.
Dave Ridley fished a 3m whip for the first hour and a half, catching one skimmer and two small roach, using pinkies & a small amount of groundbait. He then swapped to a small maggot feeder with double pinkie tight to the far bank but caught nothing. He went back to the whip after 45 minutes & caught steady for the rest of the match (mainly skimmers & roach) to end with 2lb 12oz for fourth.

We are hopeful our next match on Wednesday 19th February will be on the River Ouse at Wyboston, (meet behind NHL). However, should river and ground conditions at the venue be unsuitable we will need to rearrange and use an alternative venue.
Draw 8.30 on the bank, £5.00 optional pools £2.00 Wednesday peg fee, fish 10am till 3pm.
For anyone thinking of joining us for the first time can we ask you message us so we know you are coming before turning up, as we need to ensure we have room as this will allow us to better manage the pegging.
You will be asked to produce your Club book at first appearance, so please have it with you.
