Wyboston River Ouse
Nobby Clarke Fished the river at Wyboston using a stick float with 17’rod using Hemp & Tares, it was tough going due to the heat ,but he worked the swim and once he got the roach competing for the hemp feed , the swim took off , the best roach was about 12oz, with a handful of 8 oz fish and of course the customary 3 and 4oz fish. He started on big hemp on the hook, and fed smaller hemp , then after a couple of hours tried tare and straight away the stamp of roach went up ,so happy days …he said the photos aren't great as he wanted to get the catch back asap in this heat….

Wyboston South Lagoon
Members Paulina Trembecka and Mariusz Dolega had a successful weekend at Wyboston on the South Lagoon, especially Paulina, who caught her first ever carp. It was just over 8lb.

Beckerings Reservoir
Paul Burton fished Beckerings and it was his first time fishing the venue, so before getting the kit out of the van, he decided to have a wander around, to see if he could spot any fish, which he immediately did, so without haste, he got the gear, and set up two rods, one with a wafter, and one with a snowman, and just placed them down the margins, literally two rod lengths from the bank, and within 15 minutes, one was away, resulting in a stunning 27lb 10oz mirror. Not bad, considering it's his first time seeing the venue!! Some may call it beginners luck, but he calls it watercraft!!

Damien Fitzpatrick had a short session on peg 14 at Beckerings, a short evening session of about 4 hours, he had 4 bites and landed 3 fish, a 16lb common caught on papi nut, a nice 18lb scaley mirror on papi nut and another 16lb common caught on shrimp and pepper Nick Lynch was there for fish 2 and 3 to help out and took the photos.

Wyboston/Eaton Ford Venues - Travel Update
For anyone planning on going to our waters at Wyboston, it's well worth checking the National Highways website as there are planned weekend and overnight closures and diversions on the A1, A421 and the A428 whilst the works at Black Cat roundabout take place.
PICK AND CHOOSE - ROUND 2 RESULT
PAUL CARR & DANNY WORTH
Paul Carr and Danny Worth fished their Round Two match on Sunday, It was a revenge match of sorts after Danny had knocked out Paul’s son Daniel in round one. They met in the car park at Three Locks at 8:30am and proceeded to the canal above the lock, but due to the number of boats moored there they had to go further than the Chelmscote bridge before they were able to find space to fish.
Danny struck the first blow landing a nice sized skimmer as his first fish early on and continued to catch steadily, up until the last hour when it died off ending with 3lb 3oz.
Paul took a bit longer to start catching not having anything for the first 25mins before catching a skimmer of his own on pinkie before a change of bait to single red maggot and feeding pinkies and the occasional ball of ground bait, this bait change brought a run of fish that lasted for the rest of the match, with Paul ending with 5lb 1oz - a very mixed bag that included perch, roach, Rudd, skimmers, a gudgeon, a ruffe and a small carp hybrid.
Boat traffic was very heavy during the day with the number of boats in double figures and towpath traffic even heavier with cyclists, walkers and joggers all out enjoying the pleasant weather.
At the end of the day, family honour was restored with Paul taking the victory and making it through to Round 3!

Match Report - Wednesday 9th July - Eaton Ford River Ouse
We were all early into the car park at Eaton Ford, perhaps due to concern about the latest roadworks at Black Cat (which actually caused no problem), and as it was also going to be a warm day we did our draw and decided this week to fish 9-30 to 2-30 which would enable us to get on our way home slightly earlier.
The starting air temperature was 18C, rising to 28C by the end with a dark sky which seemed to threaten rain, which didn’t materialise, although the overcast remained and it was very humid. The river had good colour and a surprising amount of flow due to the rain at the weekend, with a water temperature measured at 20C.
Richard Gibbs took one look at the peg he drew and immediately decided it was a day for the stick float. He set up his match float rod and paired it with a closed face reel and attached a 1.5 gram Drennan stick float. He fished between 10ft and 12ft deep in his 14ft foot deep swim, a couple of rod lengths out. Richard decided to feed hemp and tares and initially alternated between tares and maggot on the hook. He wasn't getting many fish on the seed and so switched exclusively to maggot on the hook and caught Roach, Dace, small hybrids and a few bleak steadily all day, ending with 6lb 14 oz and first place.
Second place went to Barry Roper. Barry started well fishing between 6 and 7.5 metres with maggot or caster on the hook. Halfway through the match he noticed some disturbance in the water heralding the arrival of Mr Pike in the swim, and from then on it was just the occasional fish. Barry finished with 3lb 14oz.
Third place man Andy Francome fished 3 rods length out feeding red maggot which produced 2 to 3 fish, so he swapped to a swim nearer the bank which performed better and produced most of his fish. Andy was feeding 3 balls ground bait laced with casters, and fishing caster on the hook caught Dace and Roach ending with 3lb 3oz
Thanks to all those who assisted yesterday and special mention must be made of Stuart and the Bailiff team because the venue is in beautiful order and looks a picture, well worth a visit.

Coaching Report – 6th July 2025
On 18th May 2025 Luton AC hosted the Daiwa South East Region ‘Lets Fish’ match on the Town South section of the canal at Leighton Buzzard.
The youngest participant that day was 7 year old Joris who along with his father Matis made the journey from North London to fish in the competition.
Despite these difficulties, Joris did not disgrace himself, and his perseverance rewarded him with some bites and a few fish.
His concentration, enthusiasm, and abilities were noted by the Luton coaches and not least by John Ellis, the CRT National Fisheries Manager and head of the CRT ‘Lets Fish’ programme.
After a short discussion and if Matis was agreeable, John asked if the Luton coaches would be able to offer Joris some one on one additional tuition together with some more suitable equipment.
Fast forward to yesterday (6th July 2025) where it had been arranged for Joris and Matis to meet up with coaches Richard Gibbs and Neil Williams at the Slapton winding hole. John Ellis had been able to supply a suitable seat box, an 8.5m take apart pole, landing net, keepnet and rod bag and the coaches added necessary items of tackle such as disgorgers, plummet, barbless hooks and float rigs etc….
Instruction was given as to how to set up the pole and rigs, how to mix the groundbait, and loose feeding techniques. Joris started fishing just 3 metres out with pinkie hookbait and an 0.4 float rig and was soon into fish.
His confidence grew and was very comfortable (if a little untidy……well he is only 7!) when shipping the pole in and out, as well as hooking his own bait, and unhooking the fish mostly by himself with Matis and coaches stepping in if necessary.
In the short session, Joris caught and landed 21 fish comprising mostly of roach, perch, and small skimmers. Both he and Matis enjoyed the session and we managed to end before the torrential rain started!
Another one on one session will be held again sometime in August at a different location.
Matas also made a generous cash donation, which was unnecessary but gratefully received and has been forwarded to the LAC coaching fund.
Joris is already signed up to the CRT National Celebration on the Shropshire Union Canal in September, where he and other juniors will represent the Club, and the Daiwa Global Communities event on the same canal in October.
Matis tells us the hotel is already booked! Joris will also be joining the Luton AC Kingfishers junior section, which will enable him to take part in the regular coaching sessions through the year, and the monthly winter training at the Bushmead Centre in Luton. We look forward to meeting them both again.
