South Lagoon at Wyboston
This week Kletos and his son Nathaniel put a few days in at Wyboston including some overnights for the first time and they had some great sessions.
They caught their first Zander, albeit 2lb, but a Zander nonetheless. Caught at sunset on a small live Roach. Through the night Kletos had an 11lb 4oz Mirror and Nathaniel had a 12lb 2oz Common.
The following day they had two Pike, Nathaniel's first weighing 8lb 1oz and Kletos managed a 6lb 10oz Tench, which is a PB.
Lastly, Kletos fished a session on his own today and caught 5 Pike through the day on various baits and methods, four of them ranging from 6lb to 7lb 8oz and lastly his biggest of the year so far at 16lb 10oz (95cm).
Les Foxen caught a nice mixed bag of fish from the members section at Slapton last week, he used single maggot over soft dark groundbait with a few pinkies mixed in, best Perch going around 12 oz

North House Lake
Brian Turner fished North house for just a few hours on Sunday going after the pike and he wasn't disappointed as he had three out, two very small jacks and this amazing looking lady at 14lb not a mark on her good proportion to her size not skinny at all and beautiful colours.

Stocking Update: Investing in the Future of Our Waters
The club continues its long-term stocking program with the introduction of 20 C3 carp
This time we had mostly mirrors, but we did get a couple of Commons this time each fish weighed between 8 and 10lbs and were sourced from our regular supplier Priory Fisheries, these fish have been introduced to both North House Lake and Beckerings (10 in each) to support sustainable sport and ensure quality angling for future generations of members.
Pictures of the fish are available on the club website in the photo galleries and events/work parties section.
This is part of our ongoing commitment to fishery enhancement. Further stocking updates will follow—watch this space!

Wednesday Match - River Ouse, Biddenham – 28th October 2025
This Wednesday brought heavy wetting drizzle and overcast skies, with no wind following a chilly night—autumn was very much in evidence. The drizzle cleared briefly a couple of times, but the breaks didn’t last, ensuring we all had wet gear for the journey home. The air temperature struggled to reach 10°C as we met in the car park and it seemed to get colder as the day wore on. The river was quite clear with a water temperature of 11°C, and we all suspected it might be a tough day.
We had 18 fishing this week, including one of our club juniors. Due to the size of the match, we split it into two sections. Thanks go to Barry ‘Yomper’ Roper for walking the section and selecting the clear pegs up to the first bridge, which made the draw much easier.
Charlie Robinson took first overall (Section B winner). Charlie, a Luton member who usually fishes for the crack match team Drennan Bordon, had a day spare and joined us—turning in the top weight. After a roach-less first 20 minutes, Charlie realised the pole lines would be tough, likely due to the clear water and recent rain. He ended up fishing for bleak most of the day on a 2.5 metre whip, using Sensas Surface Cloud (a groundbait new to us) with pinkies on the hook. He caught over 200 fish for 8lb 6oz. Charlie, a canal specialist, said he really enjoyed his day on a lovely stretch of river with a great bunch of friendly anglers—and we certainly enjoyed his company.
Second overall was Richard Gibbs (Section A winner), who is fast becoming the man to beat at Biddenham. He fished the pole at around 10–11 metres, finding 3 metres of depth just off the main current. Using a 2grm flat float, he fed three large balls of groundbait and fished single red maggot to an 18s hook, regularly loose feeding hemp and maggot. After a slow start, he got into small chub and dace, with the occasional perch. He also worked a nearside swim 2.5 metres from the bank, catching a few net perch on worm. Bites slowed around midday, and Richard had to keep switching lines and feeding groundbait to find fish. He also had two pike (around 1lb and 2lb) on worm and maggot respectively—though of course, they don’t count. He finished with 7lb 12oz.
Third overall was Sean Leatherland (Section A), who fished at 11 metres to catch a very nice mixed bag using red maggot over groundbait. Sean weighed 4lb 12oz.
Graham Stringer took 3rd in Section A. He started by potting in four pots of groundbait at 7 metres with pinkies and a bit of chopped worm. After half an hour fishing close in without a touch, he moved to the 7m line. Fishing single red maggot, he caught mostly small roach and one decent net roach. He fed hemp and a few tares over the top but couldn’t get a touch on them. He weighed 2lb 8oz.
Second in Section B was Barry Roper, who fished three lines but didn’t get a bite on the 11m or chopped worm swims. All his fish came at 7m on maggot—bleak, chublets, and one ruffe—for 2lb 7oz.
Special credit to junior Daniel Carr for 8th place with 1lb 3oz—well done! (his own report from the day is also included in this weekly round up)
Final placings:
1st Charlie Robinson 8lb 6oz
2nd Richard Gibbs 7lb 12oz
3rd Sean Leatherland 4lb 12oz

Daniel Carr's report from the match on 28th October at Biddenham
On Wednesday junior Daniel Carr -
Daniel Carr angling fished the clubs weekly Wednesday match at the River Ouse at Biddenham here is his personal report from the day.
"I drew peg 17 which was alright but not the the end I wanted to be up but it will do.
I set up 2 lines on the pole one to fish to hand at 3ms out for bleak as last time I went it was mostly bleak which were caught so I used hinders natural mix as a bit of slop and single pinkie. My other line was 9ms out which I hoped to catch some skimmers and roach on this line feeding hinders natural mix again and hemp over the top with single pinkie on the hook.
I started by balling three balls of groundbait onto my 9m line where I started catching a decent number of small roach but nothing of size untill about half way through the match it dried up so I topped it up with ground bait but only received a couple more roach so I switched to single red maggot on hook where I caught just a single decent skimmer on this line for the rest of the match.
After about 20mins of not catching I came in to my close in line to target bleak for the last hour of the match where I caught every 3 minutes or so feeding slop and pinkies for the rest of the match.
This allowed me to finish with 45 fish for 1lb 3oz Placing me 8th out of the 18 fishing. Overall I had a good day catching loads of fish"

Report from the 7th round of the 2025 Sunday Series
Sunday 19th October saw the penultimate round of the 2025 LAC Sunday Summer Series. The match took place on the River Ouse at Lavendon following a venue switch from Eaton Ford.
With bad weather predicted and the difficulty of the longer walks for some of our more mature members, only 7 anglers took part in the match. And yes. It did rain!
Winner on the day was Danny Worth. Danny almost missed the match due to over sleeping but had the draw bag to thank as Peg 1 had been left in once he arrived. But Danny is a good angler and made no mistake to weigh 5lb 11ozs 4drms for an easy win. He used pole tactics and fished at 10m with single red maggot over groundbait feeding hemp over the top. The resultant catch of roach and skimmer made up the bulk of his catch but he backed this up by switching to the margin to pick up odd perch on red maggot including one decent sized one.
Thankfully, Myles Tommey decided it was far too cold a day to repeat the diving exhibition from the previous match at Lavendon and remained relatively dry despite the rain. Myles drew peg 7 next to the swim he won the last match from. He therefore, made the decision to focus on the venue's bream and fished most of the match on the feeder. However, the bream did not show so he switched to fish to pole at 11metres and caught a mixed bag of small fish over ground bait with red maggot on the hook. His weight of 2lb 14ozs 4 drms was just enough for 2nd place.
In third place was Adrian Smith on peg 8 with 2lb 13ozs. Adrian decided not to use groundbait for this match having not had much success in the previous match on the venue. Instead he fed using a bait dropper and fish red maggot over the top to catch small roach and skimmer and a lot of ruff. It was interesting to see just how many ruff were caught in the match.
The final Round 8 will be on 16th November on the GUC at Three Locks. The draw at 8.30am. £2.00 peg fee and £5.00 optional pools, fish 10am till 3pm. There are 8 matches in the Sunday Series and the best 5 section results from eight count for the final league placings (one of which must be a river match)
For anyone thinking of joining in with the friendly matches, they are open to club members and if you are joining us for the first time can we ask that you message us so we know you are coming before turning up. You will be asked to produce your Club book at first appearance, so please have it with you and you are very welcome.

Match Report for Wednesday 22nd October 2025
We did not get this match report in time for last weeks round up, so here it is albeit a little late.
17 anglers, filled with enthusiasm, made their way to the match held upon the upper pound of Three Locks Section at Stoke Hammond on Wednesday 22nd October.
Sadly, the leading light of our company, Dennis Hunt, could not be with us. He was greatly missed for his companionship, but on the upside, his absence meant that we had a good chance of decent weather with no rain (Dennis performs a pagan ritual rain dance each week in his garden but him not being at Three Locks meant that the rain stayed in Luton)
As usual the stalwart of our party, Ray Burton - to whom we offer once again our very grateful thanks, stepped into the breach to administer matters practical and financial to ensure that the match went ahead smoothly and efficiently. We believe that Barry Roper must be an ex-paratrooper as he firstly yomped the whole stretch in the pouring rain on the day before the match to explore the boat situation. Not content with that Barry, along with Simon Foulkes put on walking boots on the day of the match to peg out the stretch. Special thanks to Barry and Simon for stepping up to the plate as usual.
The presence of several boats, particularly those occupying the early pegs, meant that the match stretched to beyond Chelmscote Bridge which meant quite a long walk for those drawn on pegs 15, 16 & 17. Interestingly, 3 of the first 4 places in the match came from those pegs.
Nonetheless all the pegs did find some fish. As set out above, Simon Foulkes on peg 15 carried on his streak of form of late by winning the match with 5lbs 14oz of small fish. Simon pole fished one line at 11.00m and a whip close in to the edge. His first line did produce small fish regularly using maggot over groundbait. But that came to a halt after the first boat passed. Switching to his whip line using bronze pinkies, small silver fish continued to come, which proved to be sufficient to provide the winning weight. Well done, Simon.
Using similar tactics on peg 16, in second place was Jim Tookey with 4lbs 9 oz, again mainly small fish. Third place was taken by Dudley Frankland , who bucked the trend fishing punch and pinkie on peg 11 with a pole at 11.00 m and 6.00m respectively, producing one bream of 3lbs caught on caster and worm plus the usual small fish for 4lbs 5oz. An exhausted Barry Roper, with the longest walk to Peg 17 (scant reward for his efforts in pegging the venue) still managed to finish in the money with 4th Place weighing in a very creditable 3lbs 14 oz.
The weigh in was conducted jointly by the indefatigable Ray Burton with assistance from Barry Roper (who else!) together with Colin Holmes and our beloved scribe Tracey Leatherland who recorded the weights and added the results to the “Hot Fishing” page. Tracey is the only intelligent one amongst us with sufficient know how to be able to do that.
A deep felt Thank you to all those mentioned.
The overall result of the Match was as follows: -
1st Simon Foulkes 5 lbs 14oz
3rd Dudley Frankland 4lbs 5oz
4th Barry Roper 3lbs 14oz
5th Dave Ridley 2lbs 12oz
6th Christopher Bartlett Howard 2lbs 10oz
Joint 7th Andy Frankum 1lb 12oz & Sean Leatherland 1lb 12oz
Joint 10th Colin Holmes 1lb 8oz & Richard Darbon 1lb 8oz
12th Graham Stringer 1lb 6oz
13th Terry Vickers 1lb 4oz
14th Ray Burton 1lb exactly
** We use Chris Howard’s full title because he has the most tackle!!
Our next match is at one of our own venues on the River Ouse at Biddenham on Wednesday 29th October 2025. Draw at the venue at 8.30am, £5.00 optional pools plus £2.00 Pegging Fee. Fish 10.00am – 3.00 pm.
For anyone thinking of joining us for the first time please message Dennis Hunt or Ray Burton so we know you are coming before turning up. This will help us to manage the limited pegging of this venue. Please bring your club membership book with you as you will be asked to produce it for your first appearance.

Coaching Updates
Following our indoor coaching sessions, It’s lovely to see our new Junior Anglers trying something new and being successful.
Last Saturday at our indoor session at Bushmead we discussed how to prepare liquidised bread and how to use it when you fish punched Bread.
It was great to have a message and some pictures sent to us of Thomas, who went down to the Canal and gave it a try soon after the session. His dad sent this photo and said "We had success yesterday with your advice on Bread Punch/breadcrumb feeding and caught some Roach"
Very well done Thomas keep practicing.

Molly catches on punch bread!
We also received another success story for one of our Juniors Molly after she came to the indoor session at Bushmead last Saturday.
Molly couldn’t wait to put the skills she had learned into practice, so she got some bread punches and persuaded her mum to help her make some liquidised bread. Then they went to the canal to give it a go.
Molly caught from the off, catching 10 roach and Rudd in 90 minutes by feeding liquidised bread and using bread punch on the hook, and was enjoying herself so much she carried on catching more! The fish may only have been small, but Molly was delighted and sent us a message and some pictures saying “Thank you for all the tips”
Well done to Molly and Mum Gemma, keep practicing.
