Luton Angling Club - Weekly News, Information and Catch Report Roundup - Week Ending 30th November 2025

Here is this week’s round‑up of news, information, and catch reports from Luton Angling Club. It’s a quieter on the banks as winter settles in, so we don’t have many reports to share this week. If you’ve been out, we’d really appreciate hearing from you — every catch, big or small, helps keep these updates lively and encourages others to get out on the water.

Please keep your photos and reports coming; they make a real difference at this time of year.

South Lagoon
Marek Zanko landed a fine 12lb, 90cm pike from South Lagoon at Wyboston, along with a second fish of around 7lb.

Bedford Winter League
The Bedford Winter League Match took place on Sunday on the River at Biddenham. Despite a sharp drop in temperatures during the week, the river fished reasonably well. The top weight was 8lb 6oz, with an average of around 4lb, a solid return given the conditions. Anglers are already keen to get back on the venue.

Town Pairs Competition – 26th November

This week saw the annual Town Pairs competition on the Grand Union Canal, fished across two sections: Town South (A) and Town North (B). Ten pairs took part, with results decided on points and weight used to settle ties.

A bitterly cold morning greeted the anglers, starting at –3°C after several days of sharp temperature swings, heavy rain, and freezing nights. The canal carried good colour, with 5°C recorded on Town North, while further along at the Gobe a thin layer of ice had formed.

Fishing proved challenging overall, particularly on Section A, though the ever-present kingfishers had no trouble finding their breakfast before the all‑in.
Section Highlights

Dave Ridley (B Section) took overall honours with 7lb 13oz, catching steadily on a 4m whip with pinkie over groundbait, alternating between fish on the drop and slightly over depth for a mixed bag of roach and skimmers.

Tony Hickmott (B Section) followed closely with 7lb 3oz, using his 10m Drennan Acolyte whip and one of his own pencil-style floats. Starting on pinkie over a dark, coconut‑laced groundbait, he caught perch, skimmers, and a chub before rotating baits to keep fish coming.

Bart Bonito (B Section) finished with 6lb 11oz, having switched from bread to groundbait and squat after a slow start, though time spent chasing big perch on worm proved costly.

Tim Watts (A Section) topped the tougher Town South section from an end peg with 4lb 12oz, catching an impressive 112 fish, mostly small roach plus an 8oz perch. A kingfisher even attempted to snatch one of his hooked roach as it surfaced.

Encouragingly, numbers of small roach appear to be improving—promising signs for future seasons.

A big thank you to everyone who helped with pegging, admin, weighing‑in, and results. As always, it’s a team effort.
