Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Bank Holiday Monday 25th May 2026

Here’s the full round‑up of catch reports, news, and updates from Luton Angling Club for the week ending Sunday 24th May — including Bank Holiday Monday, 25th May.

A fairly quiet week for reports despite the nice weather, the lack of catch reports is likely due to the carp starting to spawn on North House and Beckerings towards the end of the week.

Lock Change 2026/27 Season
With 1 week left of the 2025/26 season any member that did not renew their membership MUST vacate North House Lake, Beckerings Reservoir and the Canal car park at Slapton by 8pm on Sunday 31st May.

Any renewed member booked on for the night or wishing to stay beyond 8pm should ensure they have their NEW "Z" issue key with them in order to exit the venue. The locks will be changed from 8pm.

Carp Spawning
The Club wishes to inform all members that carp are currently spawning at Beckerings and North House Lake. This is a critical period in the breeding cycle, and it is essential that the fish are allowed to spawn without disturbance.

Due to the sporadic and unpredictable nature of spawning, it is not practical to close the venues while this activity takes place. Members are therefore asked to exercise appropriate caution and to support the welfare of the stock by adhering to the following guidance:

  • Do not fish for carp while spawning activity is observed.
  • Avoid fishing near active spawning areas even when targeting other species.
  • Minimise disturbance to ensure the fish can complete this natural process safely.
Your co‑operation helps protect the long‑term health and sustainability of our fisheries. Thank you for supporting responsible angling across our waters.

Carp Spawning at North House Lake

Beckerings Reservoir
After noticing the carp congregating in the shallow, out of bounds areas on North House Lake clearly getting ready to spawn, Jason Mash changed his plans and managed to squeeze in a session on Beckerings just before the spawning started there too.

He had this absolute cracking mirror which was the best of two fish he had off the bottom. With the fish showing on the surface later on in the day, he fed floaters for an hour before casting a bait. As soon as the bait hit the water it was taken, unfortunately the hook pulled from the fish.

Bailiff Neil Cox did some maintenance work this week giving the grass around the reservoir a decent cut. It’s looking smart and ready for the start of the 2026/27 season. Our venue bailiffs work hard to keep the venues in great condition and the club really appreciates all their efforts and we are sure you do too.

Match Report 20th May 2026 Redbournebury Fishery
.
It was another new venue for the Wednesday match group this week, the lake at Redbournebury.
This is a pretty lake of varying depths with a decent mixed head of fish. The lake has several islands with large Willow trees along the middle. Being fed from the river Ver (a designated Chalk stream) the lake is quite clear with just a tinge of colour. The water temperature was recorded at 13C
The weather was overcast but warm no rain was forecast, and we had a gusting breeze blowing along the lake. Despite the forecast in true Wednesday fashion, we had a brief spell of drizzle soon after we started!
First place this week was taken by Jin Tookey who gave a great display of fishing his pole. Jim tried for an hour for some silvers without a bite, and decided the lake was too deep and clear so he changed tactics and fished just off the bank of the island where he found a nice depth of 4ft at 14m.
He prepped this swim with micros and groundbait for half hour and then went on it, and although he found it difficult to hold pole in the wind, he managed to land 5 carp and lost another 2.
Dave Ridley who finished second fished at 13m using a waggler, with a single red maggot on the hook. He fed maggot, sweetcorn & casters throughout the match and initially caught small roach with the larger fish spread out over the whole match. He hooked a 3lb 8oz Chub 1 minute before the end!
Dave (Bream) Whillock fished to the island using a cage feeder with pro natural dark ground bait with 3 red maggots on a 16 hook to take his 3 Bream and finish 3rd.
This was a local venue and we will return to fish it again, hopefully when the weather is warmer and more settled than of late
Many thanks to those who did the admin and the weighing teams, again a great team effort
