Here is all this weeks news, information and catch reports from Luton Angling Club for the week ending 31st May 2026.
As the 2025/2026 season ends we thank all of our members that have renewed their memberships and also look forward to welcoming all our new members.
A fairly quiet week for reports this week with just a couple of match reports coming in. Likely due to the very hot weather and that the carp were still spawning.
The midweek match was cancelled this week Due to the extremely hot weather and the lack of shade along the canal at the intended venue, it was decided that fishing will not take place for health and safety reasons.
Member wellbeing is our priority, and this decision was made to prevent any heat‑related health issues.
CRT National Canal Pairs Heat
Luton Angling Club were proud to host a national CRT Canal Pairs heat this Saturday, fished either side of the Three Locks. Eleven pairs took part — some travelling considerable distances to take part — there were several well‑known anglers among the line‑up. The eventual winners had travelled all the way from Wakefield.
Four of the pairs secured their qualification for the Grand Final later in the year.
The morning was very warm with bright sunshine, the temperature climbing to 28 C in the afternoon. The canal held good colour, but float presentation was hampered in some areas by the large amount of floating blossom which had blown from the bushes and moved backwards and forwards with boat locking. After the weigh in we all met at the Three Locks Pub for a well earned drink and the results.
Luton had four pairs entered, including one of our juniors Daniel Carr who was fishing with his dad Paul, but unfortunately, on this occasion none of our local Luton pairs qualified. The best result for a Luton Pair was Steve Lathwell & Danny Worth who came in 5th place just missing qualification.
The highest weights were recorded from B section Above the locks (Luton Section 4), while the fishing on section B below the locks (Luton section 4) was patchier.
Qualifying Pairs from this heat were:
1st Pair
Luke Wrzosek & Chloe Rayner
2nd Pair
Alex Clements & Tom Bolton
3rd Pair
Rob Bishop and John Weedon
4th Pair
Stephen Joy & Paul Cowern
Thanks to everyone on the Luton team who helped organise and run this event, which passed off very smoothly, without the help of all those involved in general organisation, pegging, booking in, organising the draw, running the bank, weighing the sections and collating the results we wouldn’t be able to run an event like this, so well done everyone.
Daniel Carr - "A disappointing week"
Here is Daniel Carr's report from the canal pairs heat and another event that he took part in this week.
"This week I fished two qualifiers and missed and narrowly on Monday at makins for the Feva junior master final and this Saturday the canal pairs at three locks where I didn't even get close with my Dad.
Monday was tough as fish were spawning and couldn't fish margins. Luckily I was able to get 2 decent carp on the feeder and a skimmer also baby perch for 16lb 8oZ but I missed out by 2lb.
Today/Saturday was even tougher as canal fished poorly and there wasn't a lot of bites to be had as it came down to what was there and clearly nothing for me as I had two bites in the last three hours and a few skimmers early on to end with 10oZ and my dad 1oZ which put us right at the bottom on weight.
