Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - 26th July 2026

Here is the weekly round‑up of news, information and catch reports from Luton Angling Club for the week ending 26th July 2026.

Another week of hot, dry weather across all our waters, with long spells of sunshine, daytime temperatures regularly in the mid to high 20s, and barely a breeze to cool things down.

South Lagoon at Wyboston

Adam Galuszko and his wife Gita did 48 hours at South Lagoon and it turned out to be a great session.

Adam only managed to net a gorgeous Tench that tipped the scales at 8lbs 4oz which he was most pleased with as it was his first tench from the venue.

Gita managed to land her 1st common carp (11lbs 9oz) then a second (11lbs 2oz) she then got bored with carp and bagged a 7lbs 2oz tench. The second night brought even more excitement for Gita as she stepped her game up and continued making friends with carp starting with 14lbs 9oz common, followed by 12lbs 2oz mirror and a 16lbs 2oz common to finish the session.

All her bites came on 1 rod and all came in the early hours of the morning.

Adam would also like to take a moment to thank the local bailiffs Barry, Andy and Brian for their hard work to keep the venue great, are always friendly and their knowledge of the water and advice are invaluable.

North House Lake
Roy Blacker returned to North House Lake for his second attempt — this time armed with a few pointers from the fish‑whisperer himself, Jason Mash. The advice was greatly appreciated and clearly made a difference. Roy lost three along the way but slipped the net under this one.

Jason Mash had this nice mirror off the bottom on Monday, Jason said normally the run time is around 11 o’clock and then it normally gets harder as the hours tick by. So leaving one rod out on the bottom and bringing the other one in, he decided to try the mixers, it was while he was working the surface at around 2.30 the rod with the bottom bait decided to scream off resulting in this mirror. Putting that rod back out in the same spot resulted in another take half hour later, but unfortunately he lost that one to a hook pull.

Chris Gallagher fished at North house for the first time on a 24hr session, It was also little Rowans first overnighter and he was one happy boy as they caught this Mirror. The fish was caught on a Sticky bloodworm pop up over a bed of corn pellet and 15mm madbaits pandemic.

It’s been a terrific start to the school holidays at Beckerings for the Miller family. Rob enjoyed three short sessions with the boys, Teddy and Max, and the lake didn’t disappoint — steady action throughout and smiles all round.

Highlights included a 23lb Mirror, a 25lb Common, and a 57lb Catfish which, remarkably, was landed again just four hours later, six pegs down. A memorable week for the lads and a great example of Beckerings summer sport.

Finley Parish had a great day with another PB a Mirror at 23lb He also had a nice 10lb stockie which put up a good fight.

Grand Union Canal
Steve Lathwell had a pleasant morning on the canal in Leighton Buzzard this week.He caught Bream,Skimmers and Roach on the pole for a near double figure weight. They were caught using pinkies and chopped worm over ground bait.

Pick and Choose Match Result.

Somehow Daniel Carr managed to find himself as angler 2 again this round meaning he didn't get choose the section of canal he wanted but he did get to choose the two pegs they would fish.

Unfortunately although choosing the 2 pegs he didn't win the toss to choose his preferred one of the two. Luckily it worked in his favour as he saw there were signs of fish in the peg he got before the match started. He set up two lines, one in the middle feeding groundbait. With my other line on the far bank feeding groundbait and using casters instead of pinkies.

He chose at the start of the match to fish the shorter line first and didn't really come off as he caught steadily on it towards the end of the match when the bites tailed off he switched to the longer line which didn't produce a lot of fish but the ones he did catch were a better stamp with another big skimmer and a very nice roach adding to his total. Then for last 5 mins he just tried to catch a few more on the shorter line.

At the all out he ended up with a respectable 5lb 8oz with his opponent Myles Tommey weighing in 2lb 4oz.

This win moves Daniel on to the semi final. He's looking forward to lots more fishing during the summer holidays.

Match Postponement — Committee Bailiffs & Volunteers Match

Eaton Ford, Sunday 26th July 2026

Unfortunately, the Committee, Bailiffs and Volunteers Match scheduled for 26th July at Eaton Ford was postponed and will be rescheduled for a later date.
