North House Lake Update
While the lake remains closed, the bailiffs have been carrying out essential maintenance. We have also been running the pump to help bring oxygen levels back up.
The fishery will stay closed for the next few days. We’ll post another update here as soon as it is ready to reopen.

Before the closure, Chris Gallagher and Gav Newman had a great session at North House Lake recently. Chris had 5 fish and Gav had 6 and each of them had a 20lber.
All caught on the krill bottom baits with a corn topper and scent from hell pop ups. They'll definitely be back for more.

Beckerings Reservoir

Max Miller and his Dad Rob had an amazing overnight session on Beckerings on Friday. They set up in peg 13 and 14 and benefitted from the farmer turning the pump on and adding some water to the reservoir from the reserve lagoon. They had a total of 22 bites, and landed 18 carp between them with weights up to 26lb, they had no sleep. An unforgettable session topped off by Max getting his PB with a 26lb fish his younger brother caught last month!

GUC Summer Evening Match series
Final round 13th August 2026
This Wednesday was the final round of our new GUC Summer Evening series. It turned out to be an extremely hot day with temperatures peaking at over 35C. Our Draw in the Globe car park was at 4pm and we fished 3 hours from 5:15 to 8:15 as we needed to weigh in before it got too dark!
We fished the upside of the Globe on the ‘Soldier Blue straight’, which despite the longish walk was fortunately well shaded from the worst of the sun and comparatively cool. This match was set to be the decider for the series, as currently the league after the 4 previous rounds was extremely tight at the top.
The Canal water is definitely clearing in the hot weather, and the water temperature yesterday afternoon was approaching 20C. Although the cutting was cooler, the shade in the cutting brought other issues, the dappled light making spotting bites difficult for some and hastening the onset of darkness.
Our individual winner yesterday was Tim Watts, who was fortunate to draw one of the end pegs, which looked nice with reeds on the far bank, but initially had little shade.
Tim set up for Skimmers, but only had two small Perch first half hour, with very few bites. After an hour and a half, he only had about 12oz in his net, but he stuck at it.
When the sun eventually dropped the swim got more shaded water and this led to bites. Tim had Skimmers now over his feed, and had twelve 3–8oz fish and 3 better ones of about 12oz followed with a 2lb one last cast, ending with 6lb 8oz.
Second place was taken by Chris Howard, who initially tried punch over liquidised bread, which didn’t work, so he switched to pinkie on the hook. Chris took his fish by rotating 4 lines, 2 nearside and 2 over, ending with 4lb 0oz.
Following our match many retired to the Globe for a well‑deserved drink to toast Chris’ victory before setting off home.

1st Chris Howard with 58 points claiming the championship
2nd Dudley Frankland, runner‑up with 54 points
3rd Mark Sessions 52 points

6th Tim Watts 39 points
7th Colin Macbeth 19 points
8th Colin Holmes 17 points
9th Paul Carr 16 points
10th Richard Darbon 16 points

Well done Chris and congratulations to Dudley and Mark Sessions for second and third place. This was the first year for this event, and we learnt a lot which will be useful experience when we run it again next year.

Safety Warning! - Bees and Wasps nests
A reminder that wasps and bees frequently build nests in overgrown vegetation, hollow tree roots, earth banks and under wooden platforms along the water's edge.
Please check carefully when choosing where to fish to avoid disturbing any nests and getting stung.
We have been advised by a member there is a wasps nest around Peg 10 at Beckerings as he was attacked and stung when returning a fish.
