South Lagoon

Bill and Steve had a good day on the South Lagoon saying fishing is good with plenty of fish being caught.

Great Result for the Juniors & Cadets

Luton Angling Club heard this week that our Junior team (ages 12-16) came top and our Cadets (ages 6-11) came second in the Daiwa sponsored Home Counties 'Lets Fish' league. This was a tight result as our Juniors drew on points with Wellingborough, but as Luton had the highest aggregate weight, they took the title.

This result means that our Juniors have bagged a place at the Daiwa 'Grand Final', where they will fish against the winners of all the other Daiwa 'Lets Fish' leagues from around the country at an event which will be held at Blythe Waters in the Midlands early next year

The Club would like to thank all the parents for their support, and we should all be very proud of these young anglers and what they have achieved, fishing against some very strong opposition.

Our commiserations go to Daniel Carr who at one time was leading two of the leagues, but due to a terrible day on Sunday lost his first place in the Home Counties Junior league to Pheobe Banaszak of Wellingborough by just 3 points!

Well done Daniel it's still a great performance and one to be proud of

River Ouse - Wyboston

Paul Webb a regular angler at our Wyboston venues fished the river and after a half hour battle he had this stunning 17lb 5oz mirror carp in the net. He was over the moon with this one.

He also sent us pictures of some of his recent Tench catches also from the River, These three Tench were 5lb 6oz, 5lb 4oz and 5lb 3oz. He used a mixture of prawns and lobworms over groundbait. He said all three were in lovely condition.

Carlo fished North House Lake and managed a stockie mirror and a hard fighting Common.  Madbaits Nutz+ doin the do.

Beckerings Reservoir
Damien Fitzpatrick sent in pictures from his last 5 sessions at Beckerings the red letter session was in peg 5 and was a short 12 hour overnight session just as the water started to drop. He landed 14 carp from 20lb up to 27lb on that session.

At one point he had 4 commons in a row all weighing 26lb.

All fish from that session were caught using a voodoo baits dark spell wafter topped with a citrus spell dumbbell topper

Match Report 9th September 2026 Stanborough South Lake, Welwyn

This week we fished Stanborough South Lake in Welwyn, courtesy of Welwyn Garden City Angling Club. With some much needed rain last week, and condensation evident on cars as we left home in the morning, autumn now seems to be quickly approaching, and temperatures generally cooling, however the water temperature at Stanborough is still currently 18C.

Eleven of us met in the car park to fish the Police HQ bank, and many had set their sights on targeting the big Bream, but Gerald, the Welwyn Chairman who met us, advised that a lot of the colour had dropped out of the water due to the recent rain and the Bream appeared to have switched off, but there were plenty of Roach and Perch to be caught. The day was initially warm with little wind, but we had several spells where the wind stiffened and black clouds appeared threatening rain. We all feared we may be in for a soaking; it was a Luton Wednesday after all, but fortunately the rain stayed away this week.

Colin McBeth set his stall out to catch the Bream from the off using his new feeder rod and reel. He started by putting out 10 bait-up feeders of groundbait laced with caster, corn, worm and dead reds at about 35 metres. Colin fished over this all day using a medium sized feeder with worm tipped with dead red maggot on the hook.

He had all 4 of his big Bream in a feeding spell between 12 noon and 1:30pm. Colin also had 2 Perch using the same tactics. Colin remarked the fish were not really having it, so he missed a few bites. He did however end with a nice net of 4 dark Bream and the 2 Perch to weigh in 22lb 15oz.

Stephen Holiday started by fishing close using a top 2 from his pole catching Roach. He then increased his distance to 6 metres, and continued catching small Roach, loose feeding maggot.

After a spell doing that, he reduced the distance and used a top 3, feeding maggot and slop groundbait, and following this he upped the feed again and started to catch better quality Roach, and a solitary 6-inch Carp. He also commented that the fishing wasn't that easy, but he had really enjoyed the day and put 12lb 7oz on the scales.

Third place was taken by Colin Holmes whose plan before going was to catch nice-sized Roach. Initially he tried a feeder put out about 8 wraps with 2 bits of corn as bait. He left this for 40 minutes while he put a few balls of groundbait, maggots and hemp out at about 18 metres to fish the waggler. After a fruitless 40 minutes with no indication on his feeder he changed to his waggler line.

He found small Roach on every bait he tried, so he put his feeder back out and set up a top 2 + 1 on his pole. Colin still had nothing on the feeder, so he changed to his pole again catching the small Roach. He then decided to fish closer in and set his gear to mid-depth. Using his top 2 to hand he had a bite every put in but only succeeded in hooking about every third bite, ending with 9lb 9oz of mostly small Roach. Colin really regretted forgetting his tares!

Despite the challenging fishing we all had a great day out and it’s a venue we will return to in the future.

Many thanks to all who helped those among us who are not so able, did the admin and helped at the weigh-in, your assistance is invaluable, and it was great to see Roger Baker, who is recovering from a recent stroke, out with us again and really enjoying his day. Well done Roger.

Wednesday Match Group

Match Group Charity Donation - British Heart Foundation.

Our Wednesday match group who are out on the bank most Wednesdays charge a small pegging fee which funds the cost of things the group need such as Trophies, repairs to their scales, any equipment needed along with any other costs incurred with the organisation and running of their matches. They also fund their annual Christmas celebrations that follow their Christmas match.

Occasionally they have a surplus of funds and they will make a donation to a relevant charity... the most recent one being a £100 donation to the British Heart Foundation.
