Week Ending 4th December 2016
4th December 2016
This week we had some very sad news about the loss of a club stalwart, Ken Gates after a long and disabling illness. Ken passed away on Saturday Afternoon 3rd December surrounded by his family in Willen Hospice where he had asked to go for his final days. Ken served as both Club Secretary and Treasurer for many years before having to step aside due to ill health. He had a great knowledge of all things angling and throughout his life travelled to various parts of the world in pursuit of fish and had a large tally of specimen captures to his credit. The club owes Ken a substantial debt of gratitude for the work he put in during his time with the club.
Ken will be sadly missed by all of us at Luton Angling Club and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. For anyone wishing to attend his funeral we will let you know the arrangements once we have them.
UPDATE:-
We now have a date for the funeral, it will be on Wednesday 21st December at 2.45 in Milton Keynes. The address is Crownhill Crematorium, Dansteed Way, Milton Keynes MK8 0AH in the Oak Chapel.
Ken asked for no flowers, but donations to the Angling Trust. This is a cause that was very close to his heart, as his greatest pleasure was of course fishing.
The Angling Trust is a single organisation to represent all anglers in England. The Angling Trust does important conservation work, helps protect habitats and combats pollution as well as providing coaching and education, and works to provide a positive new future for angling.
Cheques can be made payable to the Angling Trust and sent to Dillamore Funeral Service, 16 Old Road, Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, Beds. LU7 2RF. Alternatively there will be a collection at the funeral.
Ken's family hopes you can join them for remembering and celebrating the life of their wonderful father.

Club News
There have not been any catch reports this week probably due to the cold weather if you do get out fishing please let us know how you get on as we always struggle for reports during the winter months, On the match scene a disappointing turnout of only 6 anglers fished Brunswicks match on the Grand Union Canal at Stoke Hammond on 27th November but a decent end result for late November 12lb 13oz won the match which included a 2lb perch with 10lb 14oz coming second with skimmers and perch to 1.5lb. Most of the fish came to chopped worm fished in the boat channel. This section has a lot of moored boats on it as its reserved for Winter Moorings but walk beyond the boats up to around the old swing bridge and there is good sport to be had.
The fisheries team were out early today on a beautiful but frosty morning to take our small rowing boat to North House Lake to allow some vital maintenance and tree pruning to be carried out from the water. There are always a long list of jobs that need doing at our venues and help is always greatly appreciated so if any members want to help out please get in touch.
Members should note that Beckerings Reservoir will be closed on Monday the 12th of December as the EA are carrying out a netting of the reservoir to ascertain the biomass of Silver fish, obviously Carp, Catfish and Pike will be among the fish netted so it will be interesting to see whats in there. We'll be taking lots of video and pictures of the work so watch this space.
