Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report Week Ending 11th December 2016

Again reports are few and far between this week as they usually are during the winter months, please do let us know if you have been out fishing. All the contact details are below or you can put a post on our facebook page. The next round of our predator match will be held next Sunday 18th December at Kempston Lake some nice Pike came out in last years match so we are looking forward to it again this year. Pike fishing is not usually permitted to our members on the lake but the pike go over 20lb so we hope to get amongst the bigger fish this time. All the proceeds from the match entry fee will be donated to Keech Hospice.

Gary Scott and John Morris fished the Ouse at Biddenham this week,They fished from approx.10.00am to 2.00pm and the temperature was below 0 when they arrived and the ice stayed in the sheltered margins all day with many of the platforms in the trees remaining frost covered. Gary and John both fished half way along the second field, Gary fished running line float with maggot loose feed and an occasional walnut sized brown crumb ball of ground bait and finished with six and a half pounds of roach to 6 inches and chub and dace of 8oz. Due to Gary not having float fished for around 8 years he only connected to one in three bites!

We wont embarrass John by telling you what he caught..................

Also out this week was Dave Farmer who having had his interest aroused by the report of decent Rudd coming out from the canal at Grove was in the area so decided to have a try for them for a few hours. After a few nights of hard frost the canal was mostly covered with ice. Fishing an ice free patch he quickly had a chub of 6oz and lots of small gudgeon. A passing boat then left a large platform of ice in the way which forced fishing to 12 feet from the bank the end result was 5 chub to one and a half pounds and lots of gudgeon for a total of about 4 lb in all.

Members should note that Beckerings Reservoir will be closed on Monday the 12th of December as the EA are carrying out a netting of the reservoir to ascertain the biomass of Silver fish, obviously Carp, Catfish and Pike will be among the fish netted so it will be interesting to see whats in there. We'll be taking lots of video and pictures of the work so watch this space.

We have also now have the details of Ken Gates funeral arrangements from his family, it will be on Wednesday 21st December at 2.45 in Milton Keynes. The address is Crownhill Crematorium, Dansteed Way, Milton Keynes MK8 0AH in the Oak Chapel.

Ken asked for no flowers, but donations to the Angling Trust. This is a cause that was very close to his heart, as his greatest pleasure was of coarse fishing.

The Angling Trust is a single organisation to represent all anglers in England. The Angling Trust does important conservation work, helps protect habitats and combats pollution as well as providing coaching and education, and works to provide a positive new future for angling.

Cheques can be made payable to the Angling Trust and sent to Dillamore Funeral Service, 16 Old Road, Linslade, Leighton Buzzard, Beds. LU7 2RF. Alternatively there will be a collection at the funeral.

Ken's family hopes you can join them for remembering and celebrating the life of their wonderful father.
