Luton Angling Club Weekly News Report for the Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire & St Neots Cambridgeshire Area - Week ending 31st October 2021

Here is this weeks news report from Luton Angling Club. With the clocks going back and dark evenings upon us and the cold winter weather on its way reports tend to slow down. Please do send in any news, information and catch reports to us.

South Lagoon - Wyboston
Although the Predators never showed yesterday on our Predator Match, Ricky Charter fished South Lagoon on Thursday night and his report shows the predator fishing can be fantastic on the Lagoon. He didn't want to put the pictures forward as our match was a bit slow and we struggled, but that's just how fishing goes sometimes.
He had 6 pike between 10lb and 16lb 1oz
and 2 zander up to 6lb 4oz including a double take and also one of the zander was caught in daylight hours.

Luton AC Charity Predator Match 30th October 2021 - South Lagoon
16 anglers arrived at sunrise on the South Lagoon on Saturday to fish the 2021 Charity Predator Match but unfortunately and unusually for the South Lagoon the Predators weren't playing ball. The draw took place at 8am with anglers all hoping to get the hot peg 25 by the river inlet.
Charlie who was lucky enough to draw peg 25 went home with a dry landing net which was a surprise as this peg usually produces good results.
The heavens opened shortly after the draw and the anglers had to setup in heavy rain. The match started at 9:30 and within 15 minutes Rod Gladston in peg 4 had a Pike in the landing net. The weight was 3lb 8oz. This gave us all high hopes for the rest of the match.
Unfortunately though this was, despite the best efforts of all the anglers, the first of only 2 fish to be caught during the whole match. The weather improved through the day and the skies cleared and the sun came out which probably didn't help the fishing. The Perch also failed to show as a few anglers switched tactics to try and get off the mark and get some Predators in the net.
Second place was taken in Peg 24 by Marek Zanko with a single Perch weighing just 1oz. Third prize was unclaimed and will be added to the charity donation.
Despite the lack of fish all the anglers enjoyed the day and are already looking forward to the next one which we hope to arrange for February 2022.
Thanks to all the anglers that took part, the Wyboston bailiffs Brian, Paul and Sam that stewarded the match, Bridgette Turner for sorting out the draw and to Doulton Lee Street for creating a video with some highlights of the match.
A donation of £95.00 from the proceeds of the match will be made to the MS society.
1st place - Rod Gladston 3lb 8oz (1 Pike)
2nd place - Marek Zanko (1 Perch)
All other anglers DNW.
Club Coaching - CRT End of Season Event
Following the Club participation in the CRT Celebration in September, two of our Luton rising stars, Harvey, a Junior, and Hugo, one of our Cadets were invited back to take part in a special end of season event on the Shropshire Union Canal near Market Drayton.
The Match took place yesterday so four of the club coaches, who were helping run the event and supporting our anglers, together with anglers and parents were Shropshire bound again. The event was one where England and Guru angling pathway selectors were present, and included teams of four and individual placings.
The weather yesterday started with heavy rain, and motorway accidents delayed the start slightly, but the event was dry apart from a couple of showers. Both our young anglers did well, Harvey finishing 25th out of 36, with his ‘Lets Fish’ southern Select Junior team finishing 7th out of 9. Harvey did something we have all done and missed the net with a big skimmer during the match, which he was distraught about, he would have been higher up the rankings but for that.
Hugo finished individual 22nd out of 29 and the lets Fish ‘Stars of the future’ cadet team of which he was a member came 3rd out of 7.
Considering our anglers have only been fishing for just over a year and some of the other competitors have been fishing a lot longer, what a great performance from both anglers who are quickly building in confidence and they thoroughly enjoyed the day.

How End Match Report
The first round of this years How End Mad Hatters away was held on a Luton AC stretch of the canal, specifically Slapton. Usually at this time of year, the roach are long gone and it’s a case of picking off the odd big bream, but with the mild weather, it turned out that the roach had stayed and the bream hadn’t yet moved in yet.

The highlight of this match was the Mr Men peg numbering. Phil Stone was on Mr Happy end peg number 1 and managed to keep the roach going on and off for most of the match for 3lb 12oz which won overall , just pipping Darryl Anderson on peg Mr Bump who weighed 3lb 8oz including a couple of decent skimmers. Kevin Miller came third with 1lb 12oz narrowly beating Mike Clarke who had 1lb 9oz.

Thats it for this week

Tight Lines
