Sorry for the lack of weekly reports for the past couple of weeks. Things have been extremely busy with the day job and I have also been working away. Please find below an extended edition of our weekly news report covering the past few weeks catches and news.
Neil Cox fished the weekend of the 3rd and 4th October and had a couple out during his 48hr session He got a soaking on the Saturday playing an angry one. The biggest went just over 18lb he also lost a lovely dark mirror at the net.
Mark Brookman had a nice common on the 6th October which was estimated at 20 - 21lb.
On Thursday 14th October 30 C3 Mirror Carp ranging between 8lb and 10lb 2oz were introduced to North House Lake as part of the clubs regular re-stocking program. Once again Priory Fishery Ltd provided us with some stunning looking fish. The last C3's that went in between 4 and 8lb in 2017 are now approaching 20lb so we expect these to do the same. If you do catch any of these please let us know. Pictures of all the fish can be found on the club website in the Photo Galleries - Events and Work Parties section.
Janusz Kansik had a quick but productive overnight session on South Lagoon with 3 pike (biggest 98cm) and 2 zander - all on the same night. Great fun!
A REMINDER THAT SOUTH LAGOON IS CLOSED ON SATURDAY 30/10/21 FOR OUR PREDATOR MATCH
Bailiff Brian Turner had a good clean up along with the other bailiffs Sam and Paul. Getting rid of fallen trees and cutting back foliage they also dug out new steps in some of the steepest swims this is all in a day's work for our dedicated volunteer bailiffs.
The nine who were fishing drew and selected pegs, opting to fish a variety of methods, Pole, Float on rod and line and tip rods.
Dudley Frankland a fished float on rod and line to take a good net of roach, fishing hemp and tare, while Richard Gibbs fished pole with a 1,25 Gram float using caster and maggot to take his winning bag of roach and scoop the pools this week.
Chris Howard fished rod and line to take his bag on hemp and tare but found bites difficult to connect, as did Dennis Hunt fishing hemp and tare on a pole at 8 metres.
The roach appeared to be well off the bottom and moved up in the water to accept the feed, and some decent fish were taken in a number of the anglers nets.
Roger (the boy) Baker fishing rod and line had ‘one of those days’ getting smashed three times, hooking a pike and loosing a big roach at the net, we all have those days sometimes, better luck next week Roger.
All those who fished enjoyed a fantastic, although at times frustrating day on the bank in great company.

Wednesday’s match at Town South was not without incident this week!
Twelve anglers met to fish by the white bridge on a perfect autumn morning, with an air temperature of 8C, rising to 18C during the day. The canal was well coloured but after the recent heavy cold rain the water temperature struggled to meet 10C, which coupled with the recent pressure changes meant the anglers were always going to struggle.
After getting to our pegs and starting to set up a sudden gust of wind blew the No 5 section of Dudley Frankland’s Daiwa Airity whip off the roost and into the canal.
After some unsuccessful dredging with our landing nets we were treated to the sight of Dudley stripping off and preparing to enter the canal (see photo) before he thought better of it after realising how cold the water actually was.
A couple of kind locals brought Dudley a long-handled rake later, but despite extensive searching the missing section could not be located and wasn’t retrieved.
Dave Abbott joining us for the first time hooked an extremely large fish at about 3pm, which he played for about 40 minutes before eventually losing it, stopping the Canal in the process as the boaters wanted to see him land the fish, which had been staying very deep and going around in circles stirring up the silt.
Dave’s bait had been double maggot over chopped worm.
Others had varying degrees of success, Steve Lathwell fished red worm tipped with Pinkies over groundbait, to take Skimmers while Tim Watts was looking for the roach, using Squatt and hemp, but they didn’t really show. Chris Howard took a nice net of bream, Hybrids and Perch to win with 8lb 4oz.

Sunday dawned with heavy drizzle, but this soon cleared to become a beautiful autumn day, warm still, and slightly overcast, ideal for the competitors in the first Luton Junior / Cadet interclub match to be fished on the cut for years.
Luton, Northampton Nene, and Wellingborough all had teams competing at Slapton with the four Cadets (age 7-10) pegged to the right of the bridge and the Juniors (age 11 to 16) pegged from the first rushes back towards the lock. Thanks to the generosity of our Sensas sponsorship all the competitors received a complimentary bag of Sensas groundbait.
The match started at 11.30 and was fished to CRT rules which limit distance to 3 Metres for the first hour and 11 Metres thereafter, with the Cadet match lasting 2 ½ hours and the Juniors fishing 3 ½. The experience in the field varied, some anglers who had come through the ‘Lets Fish’ program having only started fishing in August!
All the competitors started well with plenty of fish showing from the off in all sections with floats regularly dipping to indicate bites. In the Cadet section it was a close race between Lottie Clark of Northampton Nene and Hugo Hall of Luton, the youngest competitor at just 7.
The battle was eventually won by Lottie who despite losing a bonus Perch weighed in exactly 1Kilo for first place to best Hugo with 870 gram for second. Lottie was also awarded the most promising cadet award by John Ellis National Fisheries manager of CRT.
The Juniors were fishing pairs as well as an individual match with two Luton Pairs, one from Wellingborough and a Luton and Northampton combination competing.
All stated well and plenty of fish were caught with bread punch, pinkies and worm taking most fish, again it was a close match which ebbed and flowed, Max Owen of Nene the individual winner taking A section with 1Kilo 520 grm and James Oakes of Luton triumphing in B section with 1Kilo 400 grm and taking the most promising Angler award, again presented by John Ellis.
The Junior Pairs title was taken by Louise Connor and Max Owen of Wellingborough, with James Oakes and Alex Lamont second.
Extremely well done to all the young competitors and parents who took part, and all the coaches from Luton, Wellingborough, and Northampton whose hard work made the day possible.
All the competitors and parents present really enjoyed themselves and thought it was a great day, and wanted to do it again next year, so the match will be fished annually on the second Sunday in October hosted by Luton.
Next year we hope to have even more Clubs and competitors taking part.
Do you have a young angler wanting to take part? If so, why not contact the clubs about our ‘Lets Fish’ and coaching sessions.
