Beckerings Reservoir
Towards the end of March it will be necessary for us to close the reservoir for Day and Night Fishing for around a week. This is to allow for some maintenance work to be carried out around the reservoir by an external contractor. We will announce the closure date as soon as we have a confirmed start date for the work.
It is likely that we will not accept any night bookings between 21/03/22 and 01/04/22 and the venue will be closed for a period during this timeframe the dates and duration may change depending on weather and the progress of the works. The gate will be locked for the duration of the works and members are asked not to access the venue while it is closed.
We will obviously monitor progress of the work and will re-open the lake as soon as we can.
Match Report, Wednesday 2nd March GUC Cooks Wharf
The Wednesday group had to change the match venue this week and fished at Cooks Wharf. Twelve anglers met to fish in the car park for our draw on what was a cold, dank morning with drizzle in the air. We drew and set off down a very muddy towpath and navigated the obstacle of the towpath under bridge 125 the main west coast rail line. The state of the towpath here has been reported to CRT again as its far short of expected standards, and the worst towpath on any Luton section.
The Canal was extremely full and the water cold, with a deep chocolate colour after the recent rain, initially the surface being glass calm. Those pegged in the cutting before the swing bridge narrows also had to contend with floating debris from the recent storms, which because we only had one boat movement all day didn’t move very far. As we started to fish the wind increased a little and soon the heavier drizzle started. It was defiantly going to be a hard day with anglers fishing for bites, which were at a premium. Around midday the heavier rain started to fall making conditions even more challenging.
The currently in form Dudley Frankland started by feeding liquidised bread and followed up with a piece of punch which was taken first drop by a bream. This was followed by a bream and a perch during the day, for Dudley to take first place with 3lb 8oz. Terry Vickers fished a waggler baited with double pinkie to take a nice perch of 2lb 4oz.
Richard Darbon managed to find a few fish for 1lb 5oz. Dennis Hunt had one roach for 4 oz which took a Pinkie on a size 24 fine wire hook taken just as the water started to move before the boat went through.
Lee Newson takes the prize for the greatest number of fish caught on the day. Using a 0.1 Gram float and size 26 hook and single Squatt he managed 20 blade roach for 3oz, truly fine fishing to avoid DNW.

Next Wednesday we have again had to change venue as unfortunately we don’t believe the river will be fishable and we are now going to fish Yasis’ Lake at How End https://www.howendfisheries.co.uk and have 17 pegs available so notification of attendance is essential to avoid disappointment.
You must adhere to fishery rules on bait and nets. Fishery gates open at 8, draw at 8.30 cost is £8.00 peg, fish 10 till 3 with £1.00 Luton peg fee £5.00 optional pool
We are also intending to provide some crisps, sandwiches and cakes for those that attend. We have not held an AGM since 2019 due to COVID-19 so there is a lot to catch up on. We hope club members are able to attend. Please remember to bring your membership book as it is required for you to be able to vote.
