Grand Union Canal
Bailiff Michael Wilkins has had a couple of sessions on the cut on the first session he had 13 skimmers/bream for 26lb all on waggler fished bread punch. Only one roach though. It's the first time he has fished it in the winter for a few years.

He didn't have one bite at 7.5 metres where he had expected to catch roach.

But a 2BB waggler and a 20 hook to 0.08 hooklink and double 6mm punch made it a good day and he said there is nothing better than catching on the waggler.

On his second session this time on a different section. Although still no roach where he usually finds them at 7.5 metres he did have 4 bream on the waggler and punch for 11lb 6oz. 2 of the bream were about 4lb each.

He didnt have many bites and the wind was awkward being right to left and into his face which made casting difficult at times and a caused a few tangles.
Beckerings Reservoir
The reservoir is now closed for a week or two for some important maintenance work to be carried out. The lock on the gate has been changed to prevent access. We'll closely monitor the progress of the work and will re-open as soon as possible.

Darren Savage had a great day on Beckerings catching a mega bag of Roach weighing 27lb, His total weight would have been well over 30lb but he didn't net and weigh the first half a dozen fish. They were all caught on waggler with a size 16 hook 3lb mainline and double red maggot as bait. Many of the fish were over the 1lb mark.
South Lagoon Wyboston
Paul Webb has been doing well on the South Lagoon recently catching a good number of decent sized Perch and he also had a nice Tench.
Janusz Kansik had a pristine looking Pike weighing 18lb 5oz from the South Lagoon at Wyboston earlier this afternoon.
North House Work Party
We'll be at North House Lake on Saturday and Sunday [2nd & 3rd April] next week to make some improvements to the otter fence. Members are encouraged to attend and lend a hand. Bring pliers and wire cutters if you have them.

LAC Wednesday Match Group
This week's Luton AC Wednesday match saw 10 anglers arrive at the Grand Union Canal at Bragenham Side, Stoke Hammond.

They were greeted by a warm sunny spring morning and blue skies with the forecast warning that temperatures of 20 degrees could be on the cards.  Some were already regretting that they had not packed the sunblock!

Steve Lathwell and Dudley Frankland had arrived early in order to peg the venue and had engaged a 'local' in conversation who made encouraging remarks about the section we were about to fish.

The Canal looked a good colour and expectations were high.  Not long after the 'all in', it soon became clear that it was going to be a difficult day with bites at a premium.  Despite the unusually warm spring weather, the water was very cold.  The recent works at Three Locks were finished and boat traffic, which had been backing up for some weeks, was now on the move in both directions.

Richard 'camera shy' Darbon on end peg 10 continued where he left off last week by once again taking first place. Richard fished a whip down the track loose feeding pinkies and alternating pinkie and big maggot on the hook saw him bring seven skimmer bream to the net for a weight of 4lbs 10ozs.

In second place Dudley Frankland had a slow start on the pole taking two small roach before switching to a small feeder in the last hour and a half, tempting three good perch on worm hookbait for 3lb 15ozs 8 drms.

In third place Richard Gibbs fished the small feeder all day managing two perch and a skimmer for 1lb 15ozs, with worm and dead reds as hookbait.

Thanks to Steve Lathwell and Dudley Frankland for doing the pegging, and thanks to newcomer to the Wednesday group Les Burton for assisting brother Ray and Terry Vickers with the weigh in. Les enjoyed his first day out with us and we hope to see him again soon.

Next week sees the Wednesday group fish Alders Farm
